Garden Group Last week I mentioned the great work of the Grounds Committee who gave their time over the weekend to do some much needed work around the school. At the time I wrote about it I didn’t have the names of the people involved. The following people deserve recognition for their commitment to the Grounds Committee and the school; Russel Nicholson, Grant Gosschalk, Daniel Saunders, Steve Pye, Dayan McLeod, Duncan McLeod, Luke Whenman, Sally Whenman, Calum Waldegrave, Damon Murray, Andrew Passe de Silva, Chris Muffett and Chris Laing. Thank you so much for all your efforts. Pizza Lunch Next Wednesday 19 December will be the last Pizza lunch for the year for the students who have obtained three Principal’s Awards. Today I handed out the last of Principal Awards for 2018. If your child now has three Principal’s Awards please hand them in to your child’s teacher so I can include them in next week’s lunch. There will be more Pizza lunches next year for those students who can not make it next Wednesday or would prefer to wait until next year. Student Safety Last week I had a meeting with the RMS Traffic Controller who controls the traffic on Ramsay Road next to the school. She made comment to me that she had noticed that many drivers were not paying close attention to the crossing as they should. Yesterday I asked all staff to talk to their class about the importance of Road Safety, especially at this time of the year. Can I please encourage you to have a similar talk with your children to ensure their safety? The 2019 School Year Currently, plans are well underway with the formation of classes for 2019. Our numbers are such that we are hovering around forming a 22nd class. I do plan to form classes on Wednesday 30 January 2019 if I can be very confident that the number we form will be the structure for the year. I do not like the idea of forming classes and then needing to change a few weeks down the track, however this may occur if our numbers change within the first few weeks of school. As always, I will keep the community informed as to any situations that may arise. The roots of education are bitter, but the fruit is sweet. Shining a Ray of light this festive season This Christmas, Ray White will continue its popular tradition of giving with the return of ‘A little Ray of giving’. The inspiring Christmas campaign will see Ray White Cherrybrook | Thornleigh | West Pennant Hills partner with Rotary Club of Thornleigh to help disadvantaged people who may need a little extra light in their festive season. Pennant Hills Public School is supporting this charity and we urge everyone who is able, to donate a small gift for those families who are less fortunate. The gift drive is a way to help put a smile on the face of anyone who may need some extra cheer at this time of year, and it is as simple as can be. All you need to do is wrap up your present and drop it into the K-2 or 3-6 school office. Please write on the gift male or female and nominate an age group. The office will be collecting gifts from Wednesday 28 November-Friday 14 December. Rotary Club of Thornleigh will collect the gifts from our school to give to the less fortunate. It’s a really simple way to put a smile on the face of someone who might otherwise go without this Christmas, adding just a small gift can make the biggest difference to families who are struggling at an expensive time of year. Ray White has run this initiative across Australia and New Zealand each December since 2012. Last year more than 300 offices across Australia and New Zealand helped raise 30,000 gifts for disadvantaged families this Christmas. Thank you for your support.
