“A Summer Parable”
Now it came to pass that, as the time of vaca-
tion drew near, a certain member of the church
thought of cool streams where fish were found,
and his children thought of sandy beaches by the
sea, and his wife thought of the mountains. And this church member spoke and
said: “Lo, the hot days come and my work lies heavy upon me. Come let us de-
part and go where fishes do bite, and where the cool winds bring refreshment
and the land is beautiful about us.”
“You speak words of wisdom,” said his wife. “Yet three, no, even four, things
must we do before we go.”
“Three things I think of, but not a fourth,” said her husband; 'that we ask
our neighbors to minister unto our flowers, that we arrange for our grass to be
mowed and watered, that we have our mail forwarded; but no other thing
comes to my mind.”
“The fourth is like unto the other three, but greater than all,” said his
spouse, “even this, that you remember to pay the church pledge, in order that
the good name of the church may be preserved, that the heart of the treasur-
er be made glad, and that it may be well with thee. For verily I say unto thee,
thou has more money now than thou will have when we return.”
And the husband replied, “Verily, thou art noble and wise among women.” And
he did pay his pledge for the summer, and the treasurer rejoiced greatly, say-
ing, “Of a truth, there are those who care for the good of the church.” And it
was so.

A time and season for everything… It’s summer time! The seasons change, the weather is warm, and “beach sea-son” is here. We attempted to go to the beach Memorial Day weekend just for an hour and found no parking ANYWHERE. As we drive around for errands, to and from work, to visit folks, the roads are very busy again. I can honestly say, Kristin and I have experienced an entire year here now. The summer season, the fall season, the winter season, the spring, and now we are starting the summer again. Time flies! I know many of you have been here for several years and have seen Pawleys Island change over the years and go through seasons of change. Kristin and I traveled to her Uncle John’s funeral, where we had a season of mourning. In our household, we have even had a season of being under the weather recent-ly. We are told that there is a time and season for everything...the fun and the sad, the crowds and the loneliness, being busy and also slowing down. Martha Henry
talked about “Mary and Martha” (Luke 10:38-42) in her senior sermon last Sunday. I challenge us to take a season like Mary did and sit at HIS feet. Joshua 1:8 reminds us to, “Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it.” If you have not taken a season to really study and mediate on the Bible recently, why not start today? Take the time NOW...don’t wait. We were reminded as Kristin lost her 49 year old uncle suddenly that we are not guaranteed another day and that we need to make the most of every day. I encourage us to take time this summer, to take a “season” to sit at His feet, meditate on HIS word, and spend time with Him. Once this season begins, let’s make strengthening our relationship with God a lifelong season. Besides sum-mer, what season are you in, going through, or approaching?
Ecclesiastes 3 A Time for Everything
There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens:
a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot,
a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build,
a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance,
a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,
a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away,
a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak,
a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace.

Romans 15:2, 6: "Each of us must please our neighbor for the good purpose
of building up the neighbor. . . . so that together you may with one voice
glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ."
Since 1922, Presbyterian Women have been supporting the PW Birthday
Offering. If you have not yet received an offering envelope, ask your circle
leader. This year's recipient is Westminster Neighborhood Ministries in Indi-
anapolis which provides vital resources for area families. Your gifts to the PW
Birthday Offering will allow Westminster to expand its educational services,
extending service to preschool-age children, expanding its basic adult educa-
tion program, and providing financial counseling to families so that they can
more-effectively improve and sustain their standard of living.
Expanded adult services will include job skills training and résumé building,
developing adult literacy and basic math skills, financial counseling and budg-
et building, cooking and fitness training, post-secondary education preparation, and anger management
classes. All these resources are offered to help create stable families in which parents cope with everyday
stresses, participate in their children’s education and become better role models for the children in their
care. The goal is $500,000.
Our support of Thornwell Home continues.
Please remember to keep Joseph, Marcell, Ty'Quez, Gabe, Cortez, Dylan, and Sevin in your prayers.
The Dorcas Disciples will NOT be meeting the months of June and July. They will resume meeting on August 5th, at 1:00 PM in Classroom C. The closing luncheon will be on Monday, June 3rd, at Pasteria 811. If you would like to attend, please contact Betty Lyon at 237-2211.
For the comfort
of those who may be
cool during the
worship service, the
Dorcas Disciples
have provided

Are Celebrated
Congratulations to the
five students who partici-
pated in the library’s Bible
Bookw orm program:
Laiklyn Richardson, Taylor
Brown, Dawson Richard-
son, Elise Dozier, and Wheeler Marlow. The
children read a total of over 60 books. During
Sunday school on May 19th, each received a
certificate and a set of books to be enjoyed
this summer. The celebration included re-
freshments, readings, and music. Many thanks
to Jill Fletcher for organizing this special
event for these fabulous readers.

Can you guess who June’s Featured Author is?
He was known to his friends and family as “Jack.”
He was from Belfast, Ireland.
He stated, “I maintained God did not exist. I was also angry with God for
not existing.”
He excelled in academics.
He was active in the Oxford literary group known as the “Inklings.”
He thought the Christian conversion of his friends was nonsense and felt no
fear of being “taken in.”
He was urged to read the Bible and, as a result of doing so and having discussions with his friends, he
became a believer.
He died on November 22, 1963, the day President Kennedy was assassinated, so media coverage of
his death was minimal.
Some of his books in the Adult Collection include Joyful Christian, The Great Divorce, and The
Screwtape Letters.
The Children’s Collection includes his The Chronicles of Narnia books.
By now you probably know that June’s Featured Author is C. S. Lewis. His works have been translated
into 30 languages and have sold millions of copies. Mere Christianity, which is also in the Adult Collec-
tion, meant a lot to me as it helped me put into words why I believe what I do. We hope you find some-
thing of interest among his books for some June reading.
Until I come, devote yourself to the public
reading of Scripture, to exhortation, to teaching.

Page 6 Cuba Mission Trip
Dear Friends,
Mission fields extend from the EXIT doors of Pawleys Island
Presbyterian Church all the way to the ends of the earth. God calls us to
plant seeds of hope in those fields and nurture them to the best of our
abilities. Matthew 28:19 says “Therefore, go and make disciples of all
the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and
the Holy Spirit.”
A five member team, (dubbed the All-Star team by our fearless
leader Carroll Armstrong), returned from the mission fields of Cuba re-
cently. God provided the spiritual guidance that we needed and our
church family and friends supplied the prayers that we felt every single
day.
We spent five days at our sister church in Camajuani, Cuba. We
worked very closely with the new full-time pastor, his wife, several
church workers, and three interpreters. The days were long and hot but
with God’s guidance and your prayers a cohesive team prevailed!
Three small mission teams made five or six pre-arranged home visits each day. We shared God’s mes-
sage, personal testimonies, answered questions, and prayed with our new friends. Approximately thirty of
these new friends accepted Christ!
The All-Star team spent one day witnessing in a community about ten miles away. We attended a
church service in this community on Friday night in someone’s home. We listened to scripture readings, sang
songs and Dan Stuckey shared a biblical message.
Forty children from Camajuani came to the church for three hours on Saturday afternoon for scripture
readings, an arts and crafts activity, games and a snack. Smiles were everywhere and hearts were exploding
with laughter! That night a very impressive choir entertained us in the church sanctuary. There were twenty
one members that sang a cappella which included a variety of Cuban music selections. They have a sister
church in Spartanburg, SC and hope to visit them in the near future.
Sunday’s church service was especially meaningful as Carroll Armstrong delivered a very inspirational
message. Barb Babb played her recorder and Dan Stuckey and Liz Williamson assisted with communion. Tina
Hair made herself available for any and all tasks and did them with enthusiasm! There were several baptisms
as well as new members that were welcomed into the church family.
In addition to the work in the mission fields, we took a variety of much needed supplies to be dis-
persed by the pastor to individuals in the community. Those items included a large variety of medicines, mag-
nified readers, bibles, discipleship manuals, Sunday school supplies, hearing aids and batteries for one particu-
lar person, toothbrushes and toothpaste, and health ice for muscle aches.
Friends, it is our job to continue this thriving ministry
with our sister church in Camajuani, Cuba. It is not too late to
get involved. They need our daily prayers! There are many peo-
ple who are longing to ask Jesus into their hearts. They are hun-
gry for God’s word and for eternal hope. Please don’t forget to
pray for them! Thank you to those who prayed for us and will
continue praying, for the people who wrote letters to our sister
church, and to the individuals who provided monetary support
for this mission.
Let us ALL enter the mission fields, plant seeds, and har-
vest Christians as we have been called to do!
God Bless You,
Liz Williamson

Calling All Who Like To Visit
The Deacons are revitalizing
our visitation program. We’re
looking for men and women who
have the gift of visitation. All it
takes is about one hour a month.
Do you have the time and desire
to help with this important church ministry? If you do,
please contact Robin Daniels at 314-3157 or Becky
Veselick at 237-7462.
Bread of Life Kitchen Report
Attention all bakers!!!
A policy change in Fresh Market and Low Country
Food Bank distribution procedures has left our kitchen
without desserts to serve our patrons. We would be
blessed if you could supply us with one of your special-
ties (cakes, pies, or cookies). Any donations will be
greatly appreciated. You can leave your dessert at
Founders Hall on Sundays after the worship service or
bring to the Bread of Life Kitchen on Mondays or Tues-
days before 9:30 AM. We thank you in advance for your
support of this special ministry.
Thank you all for your prayers for Danny. It seems
he is going to make it and it’s because of your pray-
ers. Thanks to Julia, Liz and Glenda for the delicious
food. The love shown by all of you is amazing.
Something that happened to me since, for now the
10th week, was I have not been able to talk or sing;
but the applause I received from the choir members
last Wednesday night would touch anybody’s heart
and make them so proud, as it did me. I love you for
your support. Hope to be back soon. I still have other
health issues, so please continue to keep me in your
prayers.

Dear Pastor and friends,
The Servant Team along with the Community Bible
Study would like to thank you for your generosity in
allowing our class to use the facilities of PIPC each

year and we are amazed at all the Lord has accom-
plished in the hearts of women and children in our
area. We look forward to seeing you in the Fall.
May the Lord continue to bless Pawleys Island Pres-
