JANUARY 2014 NEWSLETTER
Happy “News” Year
Once more we have been to Bethlehem to celebrate the birth
of Jesus Christ. Oswald Chambers, in his devotional, “Utmost for
the Highest,” once said, “Just as our Lord came into human his-
tory from outside of it, He must also come into me from the out-
side. Have I allowed my personal human life to become a
'Bethlehem' for the Son of God?”
As we begin the new year, I am asking you to join with me in
reading through the New Testament. You will find your relation-
ship with the Lord deepening as you spend time meditating on
His word. The end result, as the Apostle Paul would say in Gala-
tians 4:19, is that “Christ will be formed in you.” Once Christ is
formed in us, His nature immediately begins to work through us.
Each month, the calendar in your newsletter will indicate the
chapters you are to read for each day of the week. I will also in-
clude in each Sunday's bulletin the chapters we will be reading for
the coming week.
You might also want to keep a journal on what God is saying
to you in that particular passage for the day, followed by your
own written prayer based on the passage you read.
As you progress through the year, remember that the staff of
your church would count it a privilege to pray for you and your
family. Just email us or give us a call.
Now turn your engines on and begin reading the passage for
today.
Happy “News” Year!
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old
things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself
through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the
world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and
has committed to us the word of reconciliation. Now then, we
are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be
reconciled to God. For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin
for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” 2 Corinthians 5:17-21
Who needs something new?
New Year, New Life in Christ!
It is a new year… As we begin 2014, why not start it with a new and renewed relationship with Christ?
If we are IN Christ, we are a new creation. How incredible is that? The old has passed away, and we are made new. All of our old failures, our old sins, our old insecurities are gone!!!! We
are new, and we have a new life and a new relationship with God through Jesus Christ. I pray
that if you have never lived in this new life that Christ has given you, then 2014 is a perfect time
to start. Submit to Christ. Turn your life over to HIM and be a new creation! If you have any questions about this, feel free to talk with me or Pastor Frank!
Now if you are already IN Christ and a NEW creation, our challenge is to be ambassadors for Christ. What does that mean?
TO GO OUT! Bring NEW life to others around you who are in desperate need. We are chal-lenged to plead to those around us who don’t know Christ, to introduce them to Christ, and to
help them become the new creation that we are all called and meant to be.
There are so many people who are in need and are LOST...a neighbor? Friend? Family mem-ber? Colleague? A PIPC visitor? The list goes on... Let’s be ambassadors for Christ and share the
LIGHT of Christ this new year with the lost.
This sounds like a great New Year's Resolution: To be an ambassador for one person you know
who doesn’t know Christ. Just one. If each one of us is Christ’s ambassador to one person this
year, we would change many lives, and help many be reconciled to their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Are you going to commit to do this???? Come on! We are all in it together; let's be His
hands and feet! What a difference this can make!

Summer 2014
PIPC is going to ISRAEL!
Carter is leading a trip for all who are interested in walking in the
footsteps of Jesus, taking communion in the garden tomb, and so very much
more! We are very excited about this opportunity, and we are hoping that
YOU will take advantage of this experience of a lifetime. There is still
time to sign up, register, and plan to join us! We have a great group al-
ready going, and we're just waiting on you to sign up, too. Carter and
Kristin will be hosting an informational event on Wednesday, January 8th,at
4:30pm in the ODFC. If you still have not signed up and want to know more
about this upcoming journey, please come join us for the event or contact
Carter directly at any time for more information.
Carter’s three personal favorite places are Mt. Nebo and the view that
Moses saw of the promised land, the garden of Gethsemane, and the garden
tomb. He can’t wait to share these places with you. Many of you have shown
an interest thus far but still haven't registered. If you are on the fence,
it's time to hop down and join us for an experience that will give you
memories that will last a lifetime! Actually seeing and visiting places
that we read about in the Bible will give you a whole new perspective.

Learning and Living God’s Word
As we start this New Year, let’s make it our goal to learn God’s Word and apply it to our lives daily. We will be starting new L-Squared studies soon. To kick off the new studies, there will be a church-wide potluck fellowship supper on Sunday, January 26th, at 5:30 PM in the ODFC. The Church Life Committee is going to be providing the entrée and we are asking those families whose last name begins with the letters A-H to bring a dessert, those whose last name begins with I-P to bring a vegetable or starch (mac and cheese, rice, casse-role, etc.), and those whose last names begins with the letters Q-Z to bring salads or fruits.
L-squared will consist of fellowship events, begin-ning with the potluck on January 26th, and then will focus on studies starting in February. The studies will meet at different times throughout the week and will be facilitated by different leaders in our congre-gation. These studies will be short-term studies last-ing only 6-12 weeks.
Start the New Year right by Learning and Living God’s Word!
The Bread of Life Kitchen staff would
like to thank Victoria Rocca and Gloria
Player for their contributions of Food Lion
gift cards. These will be presented to four
of our guests on December 17th during
lunch hour. We would also like to thank all
others who have contributed to the Bread
of Life Soup Kitchen this past year. Your
gifts will help us to continue to serve
those who are less fortunate.
I would like to thank all of you for your
many prayers, cards and inquiries regarding
my surgery. The real power of prayer is evi-
dent in my relatively rapid recovery which
has been much faster than expected. I am
back to my normal activities and just need
to regain a few more pounds.
Tom Ellison
A special Thank You to my PIPC church family for the love you have poured out on me during my recent surgery and recovery. I have been blessed with many cards and calls. I continue to covet your prayers as I am still recovering.
God bless you all. Marilyn Fabian
How does one thank brothers and sisters in Christ for
loving us as they do themselves? It isn’t easy, but I’ll try
because our PIPC family has kept Terry and me going
with gifts of delicious meals, visits to home and hospitals,
rides to church activities and especially prayers.
During the past few years, as most of you know, your
support has seen me through two breast cancer surgeries
and two foot surgeries and Terry through declining
health, numerous falls, broken ribs and a broken ankle.
All of this has led to Terry’s move to Agape Senior in
Murrells Inlet, an assisted-living facility where he re-
ceives well-deserved care that I am no longer able to give
him.
Agape, which was originally a Christian organiza-
tion, has expanded to include residents and patients of
THE HEART OF THE COMMUNITY If our church moved locations would our neighbors notice?
Would anyone clamor for us to stay? How do we love and serve those around us?
How do we make our church invaluable to the community?
These and other similar questions will be the focus of a special
event coming soon. On the evening of Friday, February 28 and on
Saturday, March 1, 2014, Dr. John Fuder will lead us as we come
to grips with these issues. Dr. Fuder is an internationally recog-
nized expert in community outreach and a professor of Urban
Studies at Moody Theological Seminary and Graduate School.
We will begin a step-by-step process that will start from the
ground up and will give us the tools we need to analyze and imple-
ment methods to reach our community for Christ.
Won’t you join us?
Music Notes
A big thank you to all who have worked for many months, weeks, and
hours of rehearsals in order to bring the wonderful music for this Advent
season. The Sanctuary Choir, Bel Canto, His Voice, Winds of Praise, Alle-
luia Ringers, Kids’ Praise Connection and others who brought their gifts in
ensemble, solos, narration and through hands of service to give our best in
presentation. So many gifts were given in service, monetary gifts, talents
and loving support in order to bless the church and surrounding commu-
nity and to demonstrate the Jesus Gift, the gift of love, salvation, redemp-
tion and peace. All of the ensembles and musicians at PIPC work hard
throughout the year to lead our church in worship and we are thankful for
their efforts and hearts of service With a grateful heart, I thank you.

Bible Bookworm is a PIPC Library book reading program for children age 4
through 3rd grade. Jill Fletcher will introduce the 2014 Bible Bookworm
program during Sunday School on January 5th and will provide a letter of
explanation and reading list form. Then during J.A.M. on the evening of
January 5th, PIPC Library Committee members will be on hand to help the
children find books, show them how to check out books, and remind them about renewing and return-
ing books on a timely basis. The reading period of the program will end on Sunday, April 6th, at which
time Jill and the Sunday School teachers will collect the completed reading list forms. The conclu-
sion of Bible Bookworm 2014 will be celebrated during Sunday School on April 27th with rewards for
successful Bible Bookworm readers and refreshments for all.
Parents – Please encourage the participation of your children! The PIPC Library Committee would
also appreciate your assisting your children by helping them find and read church Library books, pro-
viding verification on their reading list forms, ensuring that books are renewed/returned on a timely
basis, and ensuring that the completed reading list form is turned in promptly. Books labeled
“E” (for Elementary reader) are located in the low bookcases under the Library hallway windows. A
member of the Library Committee is available to assist on Sundays from 8:30 to 10:00 am (or 9:45
to 10:00 am if there is only one 11:00 am service).

Sunday December 22 of 2013 Fourth Sunday of Advent.
“She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins”.
Matthew 1,21.
To all our brothers and sisters in Pawleys Island Presbyterian Church:
Dear brothers and sisters in Jesus Christ: Christmas is loving, is breaking every frontier, is creating a new world, is believing in the others.
In this time of Christmas we all celebrate the coming of the Son of God, our Lord Jesus Christ, and we think of all our brothers and sisters
in Pawleys Island Presbyterian Church. The birth of Jesus is a setting point in the lives of all Christians. It is a time to celebrate friendship,
love and hope in God.
Our church in Camajuani celebrates the joy and faith that Christmas brings to us, we are called to tell others about God´s love for every
human being, and we have an invitation to be salt and light to our world. Our commitment with God is to enlighten the lives of the persons
and to give flavour in a world where we are summoned to be witnesses of Hope.
In this time where we share our deepest longings with Jesus, Bethlehem´s Child, we want to wish all of you our brothers and sisters from
Pawleys Island Presbyterian Church a Merry Christmas and a blessed year 2014. God comes to meet with us and shares with us life in its
fullness. May every moment of our life carry the blessing of our God, may the peace of Christ take care of our families and may love reign
in every home.
That this Christmas is for you and for us: Peace, Grace, Encounter, Justice, Humility, Light, Truth, Joy and Love. That the company of
God is with its churches and that all the new purposes are guided by the Spirit of God.
In this time in which we prepare ourselves to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, we pray for all of you and we hope that this Christmas is
like a light that shines in all our life.
Regards with a great hug from Camajuani,
Pastor Michael Beaton Oakley
Moderator of the Session of the Reformed Presbyterian Church in Camajuani.
