COMMUNITY LAY DIRECTOR’S LETTER

Dear Dayspring Emmaus Community,

Welcome 2017. Seems like each year just goes by quicker and quicker. The

old saying “there is not enough me in the day” becomes “there is not enough me

in the year.” In reflecng on the past year, the number of new pilgrims that became

a part of our community was 149. God is amazing and His plans are always right.

Scripture that comes to mind is Jeremiah 29:11-14, “For I know the plans I have for

you declares the L , “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you

hope and a future.12

Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen

to you. 13

You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. 14

I will

be found by you,” declares the L , “and will bring you back from capvity. I will

gather you from all the naons and places where I have banished you,” declares

the L , “and will bring you back to the place from which I carried you into exile.”

God will find those pilgrims that He needs to touch and will gather them and prepare

a way for them in His ming.

The Spring 2017 walks are in the making. The Lay Directors are working

hard to get their teams together. Jerry Van Carlisle is the lay director for men’s walk

#131 and Robin Huntley is the lay director for the women’s walk #132. Please be in

connuous pray for them as they connue to form their teams. Also, pray for the

Holy Spirit to put someone on your heart to sponsor for the upcoming walks. The

dates for the Spring 2017 walks are April 20th-23rd

(#131) and April 27th

-30th

(#132)

both at Indian Creek Bapst Camp. Dedicaon for both walks will be April 9th

(3-6 p.m.)

at First Bapst Church in Jeffersonville, IN.

Our new calendar with events for the year is complete. Please visit the web-

site www.dayspringemmaus.org for walk dates, gathering mes and locaons, etc.

Remember we have monthly gatherings (except during the month of a walk) on the

first Friday. We have also added dates for upcoming Chrysalis events. Please consider

supporng Chrysalis by sponsoring or a-ending send off, candlelight or closing.

Finally, I would like for you to consider praying for the Dayspring Board.

More specific, we meet on the 3rd

Thursday of each month and I would like for the

Community to pray during the meengs (6:30 – 9 p.m.). We pray for our speakers,

lay directors, pilgrims, etc. but I would like to request prayer for the Board. Pray that

the Holy Spirit will guide us in every decision we make. May God’s plans be revealed

at every meeng. Thank you for being such a supporve Community. I truly love my

brothers and sisters in Christ.

ARE YOU A WITNESS FOR CHRIST?

Many people say that their Walk to Emmaus was a life changing experience. If that is true

for you, what have you done to further the Kingdom of God and lead others to Christ since your

walk? You say, I am more acve and involved in my church. That is good, but what have you

done to lead others to Jesus Christ?

The burden on my heart is for the millions of people in our world who are headed to hell,

some of them are our family members and neighbors. I know some people say, modern

preachers don’t talk about hell, but last me I checked, the Bible sll teaches there is such

a place. In fact, Jesus talked about it oen. So, I ask, what are you doing to lead others to

a saving faith in Jesus Christ?

Someone sponsored you on the Walk to Emmaus because

they saw the potenal in you to be a church leader and a posive

influence on others for Christ. You and I must be willing to

share with others what Christ has done for us. Your tesmony of

what Jesus Christ has done in your life is a very powerful tool for

leading another person to Christ.

Revelaon 12:11 “They overcame him (devil) by the

blood of the Lamb (Jesus) and by the word of their tesmony:”

Jesus shed his blood and paid the penalty for our sins and won

the victory for us over the devil and hell. Our part is to share

our personal tesmony of what Jesus has done for us with oth-

ers.

While on the Walk to Emmaus we experienced God’s

grace and love in a special and powerful way, we need to

share that with others. People will not come to Christ

without hearing about who HE is and what HE has done

for them. They cannot hear without a witness.

Will you be HIS witness?

In order to sponsor a pilgrim you will need to go through a sponsor-

ship training session. A session is approximately 30 minutes. Even if

you have sponsored pilgrims on previous walks, this training is re-

quired. You need only complete the training once in order to sponsor

pilgrims in the future. This training program will be presented by the

DaySpring Emmaus Community Board members at various venues throughout the community over the next several months and at all

future follow-ups. If there are any reunion groups or church groups who would like to host the sponsorship training contact Jo Norman

([email protected]) to get scheduled. There will be sponsorship training at the February gathering.

Spring Walk

Lay Directors.

Walk 46 Table of Sarah

(clap)

Hello friends,

I'm blessed to serve this Spring on the women's walk -

what a joyous privilege. I'm humbled that

someone thought I should.

But make no mistake - this is God's walk, his stage,

his moment to impact those he is calling.

I am a blessed to be a stagehand who will

witness his power and presence.

If you're reading this pray.

There is no greater

gi you could offer.

Dear Community,

As a humble servant of Jesus Christ, I am truly blessed to be wring this leer. I

have accepted His call to be Lay Director for the Men’s Emmaus Walk 131.

I wish to express my appreciaon and hear"elt gratude to the DaySpring Emmaus Board for

their faith and confidence in my abilies to orchestrate such a life

changing weekend within the Body of Christ.

September 2010 (Emmaus Walk 104) marked the beginning of my spiritual journey

and was instrumental in taking my life as a Chrisan to the next levels.

The genuine display of uncondional love that weekend was overwhelming. As

His light radiated through those who were His hands and feet, I was fortunate to witness

what a relaonship with Christ looked like. Walk 104 provided me with the foundaon and

tools necessary to not only believe, but to follow and walk with Christ. It has provided me

with unlimited opportunies to serve and minister in

Residents Encounter Christ, Mercy’s Edge Ministries, Power Ministries, the Emmaus Commu-

nity, and my church. As a Chrisan, there is nothing more rewarding than being able to have

a front row seat and watch God work!

Our theme scripture (1 Corinthians 16:13-14) speaks of spiritual maturity with en-

couraging moral commands from God that describe His expectaons and

are imposed upon believers as a duty demanding connuous acon. 13 Be on your guard;

stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong. 14 Do everything in love. Our song for the

weekend (“Warrior” by Steven Curs Chapman) is a good

illustraon of this scripture and how we must engage in bale as Christ’s

representaves in a fallen and lost society.

I am in awe of what God has planned for those He has chosen to be pilgrims and

team members as we all prepare our hearts, focus our minds, and feel the Holy Spirit these

upcoming months.

DeColores!

What is a Reunion Group? The Emmaus group reunion is a small accountability group of two to 12 persons who have usually participated in the three-day Walk to Emmaus and who want to continue their pursuit of a life lived wholly in the grace of God. These small follow-up groups help pilgrims translate the message conveyed on the Walk to Emmaus weekend into a daily walk with Christ. With the regular support of a few faithful friends, the gift of God's love in Jesus Christ becomes a lifestyle of Christian discipleship through the threefold discipline of piety, study, and action. Group reunions meet at regular times, usually weekly for an hour. The meeting consists of persons' sharing the stories of their walk with Christ during the past week. Members listen to one another, celebrate the grace of God in each person's life, and reinforce each one's core commitment to living in union with Christ in all facets of daily life. Members express that reinforcement through gentle accountability,

encouragement, and support of one's stated discipline and plans. Excerpted from The Group Reunion by Stephen D. Bryant. Copyright © 1995 by The Upper Room
