Throughout the world, crows and ravens have taken on a special significance due to their dark presence in the skies and their surprising interaction in our communities.

In folklore, they appear frequently as both the hero and the villain. They arrive as tricksters, disguised sorcerers and experienced travelers. For some, the raven is associated with death, war and evil. For others, the crow appears with great wisdom, fertility and good news. The stories are as complex and surprising as the birds themselves.

Look out your window and you may spy these birds living among you. Crows and ravens are members of the Corvidea family, along with magpies and blue jays. They are found all over the globe with the only exception of Antarctica. They are considered to be extremely intelligent, social creatures.

In the art world, these magnificent birds appear with meaning and symbolism. The artist’s creative fascination makes them the perfect subject for an in-depth exploration of art being created by today’s artist. The Crow Show: An Homage To The Raven showcases the works of diverse, international artists as they question the meaning of Crows and Ravens in today’s world.

THE CROW SHOW: Homage To The Raven - In partnership with The Art Institute of California - San Diego (Mission Valley), The Studio Door will be showcasing its first national show of 2015 at the campus’ public gallery. The exhibition will enrich the students as they explore their own voices in design, fashion and media arts. Plan your visit to stop by for an enjoyable meal at The Palette, a culinary student-run restaurant.

50 TO WATCH - In partnership with the City of Solana Beach, The Studio Door will highlight the regional exhibition in North Count at the City Hall Gallery. This provides a perfect opportunity to hop on the Coaster and explore Solana Beach’s design district or watch the sunset over the ocean at Fletcher Cove Park.

...BREAKING NEWS... The Studio Door has added a second gallery for both shows at the San Diego Art Institute - North Park, which will enrich the experience for artists and the public!

GRAND OPENING, NEW LOCATION - Look for our big announcement on January 15.

MORE TO COME - Throughout 2015, look for announcements of The Studio Door’s museum store, participation in Ray at Night and art-to-market essentials to promote contemporary artists.
