GOD’S TIME We either pay a en on to or ignore “clock me” as we play in the summer sun and note the earth’s lt and the lengthening days. We live by me. We reckon me in seconds and minutes and hours, or we use broader chunks like supper me and sum-mer me. God keeps another sort of me. God speaks to us of “saving

me,” that is, the me of salva on. This sense of me is called kairos, and this me is always now, always present and available, always revealing, o en surprising. This Sunday’s readings alert us to the reality and the import of God’s me. Ezekiel and the Gospel of Mark remind us that our labor and our plo ng and our planning rest in God. For God takes our smallest efforts and makes of them great works. Paul points us to the “harvest” me, urges us to be watchful for its coming, and calls us to recognize that we must spend our me pleasing God. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

EL TIEMPO DE DIOS O le ponemos atención o ignoramos “la hora del reloj”, cuando jugamos en el sol del verano y notamos la inclinación de la Tierra y la prolongación de los días. Vivimos en el empo. Marcamos el empo en segundos, minutos y horas, o hablamos de segmentos más largos como la hora de la cena o el verano. Dios marca el empo de otra manera. Dios nos habla de “ahorrar empo”, es decir, el empo de la salvación. Este sen do del empo se llama kairos, y esta vez es siempre ahora, siempre presente y disponible, siempre revelador. A menudo sorprendente. Las lecturas de este domingo nos alertan sobre la realidad y la importancia del empo de Dios. Ezequiel y el Evangelio según San Marcos nos recuerdan que nuestro trabajo y nuestros planes dependen de Dios. Porque Él toma nuestros pequeños esfuerzos y hace de ellos grandes obras. Pablo nos señala el empo de la “cosecha”, nos insta a estar atentos a su cumplimiento y nos llama a reconocer que debemos dedicar nuestro empo a agradar a Dios.

The Preparation of the Altar The altar is the focal point of our churches. It is a sign of Christ in our midst; indeed, it has been said that “the altar is Christ” (Dedication of an Altar, 4). The altar is a table “on which the sacrifice of the cross is perpetuated in mystery throughout the ages until Christ comes”; but it is also the place for a festive meal: “a table at which the Church’s children assemble to give thanks to God and receive the body and blood of Christ” (Dedication of an Altar, 4). Both these functions of the altar are clear in the rites for the preparation of the altar that follow the general intercessions, which remind us of the preparations we make at home for a festive meal. The deacon or altar servers come forward and, bowing, place a cloth known as a corporal (from the Latin for “body”) over the altar cloth. They place the chalice, the cup to be used in the celebration of the Eucharist, and the Sacramentary or Roman Missal, which contains the prayers of the Mass, on the altar. El altar como la mesa familiar Después de la Liturgia de la Palabra, la asamblea y la oración litúrgica cambian de escenario. La mirada de la asamblea, así como todos sus movimientos se fijan ahora en el altar. Este altar tiene forma de mesa, ¡es una mesa! En torno a ella la asamblea comerá el pan y la bebida de salvación. A él van quienes tienen hambre, quienes afectados por su naturaleza humana, han dado paso al pecado en su propia vida y sienten la necesidad de reconciliarse, no sólo consigo mismos, sino con sus hermanos y sobre todo, con Dios. Esta es la mesa de la unidad, de donde fluye el amor sin límites, el pan de vida. A él van quienes se sienten vacíos aun cuando lo tienen todo. En esta mesa – altar, no hay diferencia alguna, todos solidarios por la filiación divina, por la fraternidad con Cristo, por la condición humana que nos une en la gracia y en el pecado nos separa. The Mystery Inside Seeds A er farmers plant seeds there is nothing more they can do except to water the ground and wait for

the harvest. Jesus uses this image to describe the inner strength that causes the kingdom of God on earth to grow un l the day of harvest, the day of the Last Judgement. Our willingness and love to teach the gospel and perform good works are the seeds that build the kingdom. We may not be aware of this growth, but transforma ons are taking place. Just as a farmer waters the seeds, the fountain of the Holy Spirit inspires our thoughts, desires, and ac ons; and strengthens us to know and carry out what God expects of us.

St. Paul reminds us at the end of our lives we will receive recompense for both our good and evil ac ons. Knowing too well the mes we’ve sinned can make us fear that day of harvest. Think of this: two men died on crosses next to Jesus. One was very boas ul and demanding, the other was humbly seeking mercy. Which one did Jesus acknowledge? Each day we make choices that in the end will reveal which of the two we will resemble.

The more we surrender to the work of the Holy Spirit the image of Christ grows more fully in us, as we are brought closer each day to God the Father. See what do you need to do in order to increase your faith. Blessings.

El Misterio Dentro de las Semillas

Después de que los agricultores plantan las semillas no hay nada más que puedan hacer excepto regar la erra y esperar que crezca. Jesús usa esta imagen para describir la fuerza interna que hace que el Reino de Dios en la erra crezca hasta el día de la cosecha, el día del Juicio Final. Nuestra voluntad y amor para enseñar el evangelio y realiz-ar buenas obras son las semillas que construyen el reino. Tal vez no estemos conscientes de este crecimiento, pero se están produciendo

transformaciones. Así como un granjero riega las semillas, la fuente del Espíritu Santo inspira nuestros pensamientos, deseos y acciones; y nos fortalece para conocer y llevar a cabo lo que Dios espera de nosotros.

San Pablo nos recuerda que al final de nuestras vidas recibiremos recompensa por nuestras acciones buenas y malas. Saber demasiado bien los empos que hemos pecado puede hacernos temer ese día de la cosecha. Piensen en esto: Dos hombres murieron en la cruz junto a Jesús. Uno era muy arrogante y exigente, el otro estaba humildemente buscando misericordia. ¿Cuál fue aceptado por Jesús? Cada día hacemos elecciones que al final revelarán a cuál de las dos nos pareceremos.

Cuanto más nos entregamos a la obra del Espíritu Santo, la imagen de Cristo crece más plenamente en nosotros, a medida que nos acercamos cada día a Dios el Padre. Mira bien que cosas debes hacer para que la semilla de la fe siga creciendo en tu vida. Bendiciones.
