Sable Owens 8th
grade
I strongly believe that I get judged by the content of my character in school. But
outside of school, I get judged by both. Being a dark-skinned African-American
person there is a lot of judgment passed on me. In certain situations, white people
get applauded more by another white person, as opposed to a black person.
Isaiah Simmons 8th
grade
As a student I feel that I am judged by my character. I feel this way because at our
school we have a poem. One of the lines in our poem starts, “It’s not one’s looks
that make him great. It is character that seals your fate.”
MLK quotes printed in The Daily News on Monday, January 20th in
response to “Do you feel, as a student, that you’re being judged by
the content of your character or by the color of your skin?”
Asia Williams 8th
grade
I feel that I am being judged by the content of my character. The reason I feel that
way is because APA does not care if you are ugly, light, or dark, they care about the
good values they try to instill in you. They work hard to help you in life and have
fun at the same time.
Sean Dillon 8th
grade
No, I do not feel like I am being judged by anyone about my skin, clothes,
personality, eye color, hair color, or anything else. It is possible I am, but the person
isn’t showing it. If I am getting judged, I really don’t care because there is only one
person that can judge me, and that is God.
Destiny Henderson 8th
grade
I feel as I am judged by the content of my character but out of school that I get
judged by the color of my skin and that society makes is seem like being African-
American that I can’t do what others can. But character is what seals our fate.
The Problem
Recently, the United States government reduced funding to NASA and
cancelled projects that would send astronauts into space. There were
many critics of this action, and the debate continues. You are a scientific
adviser to the President of the United States and must decide on the
correct course of action for the government. Should the United States
dedicate more resources to the space program, or are those
resources more valuable being used in another way?
Is space exploration worth the money?
Students will review a video, primary sources, and an article to decide if space exploration is worth the cost of funding
Congratulations Bri’ana Goodwin! Her cheerleading team “SHOCK placed 2nd in competition at Moody Gardens on January 11-12, 2014
