And when they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and continued to
speak the word of God with boldness.

We are still planning to recognize our 2020 graduates this
year. We’ll recognize College graduates during the
Sunday, May 3 morning worship service on Facebook Live.
That may look just a little different, but we still need students
to send in their graduation information and a picture we can
use. In fact, the graduate recognition card and picture
will be more important this year since our graduates won't
actually be in the room.
So, if you or a family member are graduating anytime in 2020
with a Bachelors, Masters, or Doctoral degree,
fill out the online form and email a picture of the graduate
Prayer characterized the first century church. Through prayer they witnessed God accomplishing many great, powerful, and miraculous things. Unified prayer preceded the
calling out of a new disciple and the day of Pentecost (Acts 1 and 2). Christians gathering to pray led to the deliverance of Peter from prison (Acts 12). Corporate prayer revealed God's will to send Paul and Barnabas as missionaries (Acts 13). Prayer brought healing and forgiveness of sins as God accomplished great things (James 5).
Prayer and the clear preaching of God's Word have always accompanied great times of national revival (called Awakenings) which changed lives, churches, communities, and entire nations. Two examples are the Awakening of 1858 and the Awakening of 1905.
Before the Awakening of 1858 America experienced rapid territorial expansion, adding Texas, Oregon, the Southwest Territory, and the Gadsden Purchase. Although it was a prosperous time with much building and discovery, it was also a time of conflict, particularly over immigration and slavery. In 1857 there was an economic panic which resulted in many closed banks and lost jobs.
During those days, a lay pastor in NYC, Jeremiah Lampier, led the men of his church to pray at noon each day. The first day 6 men came, then 50 were attending. Soon, however, over 10,000 gathered to pray each day. Prayer swept the city and spread to other regions. Then, revival came! In 1858-59 more than 1,000,000 people professed faith in Jesus.
Before the Awakening of 1905, Christianity faced severe testing as several nations experienced significant moral meltdowns. Gambling flourished. Prostitution was legalized in several cities. Drunkenness increased. False religions expanded. Heretical teachings spread. Divorce multiplied. Stealing and other crimes were frequent.
Revival began in Wales in 1904 as many ministers surrendered their lives and ministries to the Lord and committed themselves to prayer. As God moved across the nations, pubs and saloons went out of business. The Post Office ran out of cashier's checks as people repaid old debts. Stolen items were returned. People got right with one another. Churches were filled around the clock. 150,000 people were saved in the first 9 months after the Welsh revival started. This revival crossed the Atlantic and spread coast to coast across America in 1905.
Our community and nation need revival and I believe God desires to work in our lives, our families, our church, and our nation in this day. We long for real revival as God moves with power to accomplish His purposes for His glory. Our first step is to pray.
Will you pray for revival? We are certainly in great need. Perhaps God will come in power and we will experience national revival.
