Happy 2017! Coming back for two days,

followed by a snow day, has made for an

interesting start to the new year and new

semester. It is hard to believe we are

halfway through the school year,

especially because it doesn’t seem like

anything goes faster than second

semester in a high school. Well, maybe

vacations seem to go a little quicker…

By now you should have received your student’s first

semester report card via email. As we jump into second

semester, we also start to prepare for the 17-18 school year.

You also should have received a phone call from the

Superintendent’s Office earlier this week about some

possible changes to the daily start and end times. Please

take a look at the link below if you haven’t gotten the chance

to yet. You will have the opportunity to provide feedback on

the proposal through a link on the form.

Preregistration for the 17-18 school year will begin soon.

Teachers and counselors will help advise students on the

appropriate classes to take, but we encourage you to work

with your students to make sure their course requests are

balanced and take into account all that they do both inside

and outside Grandview. We will continue to challenge

students at their highest levels, but no one knows your

student’s abilities better than you!

Our seniors getting ready for life beyond Grandview recently

had the opportunity to hear from some of our Grandview

graduates who came back to provide a “Grand View from

College”. Although some of our seniors have already started

to receive college acceptances, other seniors are still

working on college applications, financial aid paperwork, and

scholarship applications. We are excited to hear about all

the plans they have for their futures. And at the other end of

the high school spectrum, on January 17th, we will welcome

the incoming freshman class (the graduating class of 2021);

we are excited to show them all the opportunities Grandview

students have during their four years with us.

Speaking of some of those opportunities, it’s important to

acknowledge the following: Poms finished 2nd in state and

Cheer finished 3rd. Both are busy preparing for nationals in

Florida next month. Our winter sports teams are

experiencing great success with wins for both girls’ and

boys’ basketball against some of the toughest teams in the

state and country. Wrestling is celebrating an All-American,

and girls’ swimming is continuing its tradition of excellence

and performing at high levels. Our Performing Arts students

from multiple disciplines will be performing at the Colorado

Music Educators Association at the end of this month in

chance to showcase the talent of our students and

and continue to show everyone why it’s great to be a Wolf!

The Deans’ Post:

Social Media: Have you witnessed, or are you experiencing, inappropriate behavior through social media?

1. Have you discussed the issue with your parents? 2. Have you talked with your peers? 3. Have you discontinued contact with all parties involved? 4. Is the inappropriate behavior happening during or at school? 5. Is the situation impacting your education or your learning environment? - If so, have you contacted a Dean? A Dean can help you navigate the situation and take appropriate next steps.

****Reminder, though we work as a team, the Deans’ primary roles switched for 2nd semester.****

Wolves, as you pull those winter coats out of your closets, please keep in mind that regardless of the temperature or time of year, your clothes must be school appropriate. The following is a friendly reminder of some our expectations in regards to dress code. (Specifics can be found on page 20 in the student handbook.)*

Clothing should cover the body from shoulder to mid-thigh, including chest, back, midriff and

buttocks must be covered. All undergarments cannot be visible

Pants should be worn above the waist Clothes that make references to drugs, alcohol or are offensive in nature are inappropriate for school. If

you are unsure, it is best to choose a different article of clothing. Students who violate our dress code will be directed towards their Dean where they can change their attire by selecting from a variety of school appropriate clothing. Note, multiple dress code infractions can result in additional consequences. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Your Deans

Just a friendly reminder that there is no parking in

the handicap spaces. This

also applies to sitting in

your car while it is idling.

We understand that

although this is more

convenient it does cause a

burden to those who rely on

the handicap parking. Thank you for your

cooperation with this matter.

Invitation to apply to serve on the CCSD Community Wellness Committee

The goals of the Cherry Creek Schools Comprehensive Wellness Strategy are to reduce barriers to learning and develop skills that support lifelong healthy living. Our framework is the Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child model which emphasizes the importance of community and parent partnership. As such, we are currently seeking parents interested in providing input into the district’s comprehensive wellness efforts by serving as a member of the CCSD Community Wellness Committee (CWC).

To learn more about committee participation and access a membership application, please use the following link: www.goo.gl/piZerx. We value your ideas, feedback and interest in supporting the health and wellness of all the students, staff and families in the Cherry Creek community. Thank you in advance for your contributions and service.

Maybe you remember the first time you heard about an educator initiated grant? “EIGs” provide opportunities for teachers and classrooms to take ideas to reality. The impact and innovation through Cherry Creek Schools Foundation funding is made possible by contributions big and small…It All Adds Up. This year another 91 EIGs were funded thanks to our donors. Ideas in science, technology, engineering, arts and math have

blossomed because of the commitment of schools, teachers and students to put donated funds to good use. This year, in lieu of other gifts (or in addition), donate in honor of a teacher. It is a gift that gives twice: 1. Honor the teacher (you enter the name with the donation, and we the foundation notifies them). 2. The funds enhance classroom experiences and 21st century skills can flourish. Visit www.ccsdfoundation.org, click the donate icon on the top of the screen, enter donation details including those you wish to honor. Once your gift is complete, feel the joy of giving with the knowledge that you are done shopping for teacher gifts AND you gave with impact. Happy holidays from Cherry Creek Schools Foundation. If you have questions, please call 720.554.4429 or email [email protected].

As a result of a recording that was made in April, Jazz I, Women’s and Supermen Choruses were selected to perform at the Colorado Music Educators Association Convention in January of 2017. Only two high school jazz bands are selected from the state for this honor. Only the best bands, orchestras, and choirs are selected. This is the first time in Grandview history that a band and choir has been selected to perform at CMEA. Thanks to the seniors who helped to make this possible! You all will be invited to come and see the performances. Save the date – January 26, 2017 and January 27, 2017–Main Ballroom of the Broadmoor Hotel, Colorado Springs. Please see exact times on the GHS Performing Arts Website. Returning students need to be practicing regularly throughout the summer and preferably studying privately with a teacher on their instrument working on basics of music and jazz improvisation. This will be an outstanding performance experience.

“Congratulations to Erik Peterson, the GHS Shakespeare Competition winner! The runner up is Kira Kirkendall. Erik competed against 20 other wolves to win a spot at the state Shakespeare competition held at CU Boulder sponsored by the Denver Chapter of the English Speakers’ Union. The state winner will get an all-expense paid trip to the Big Apple where they will compete against 50 other high school students on the Lincoln Center stage. Good luck, Erik!”

Joseph is a 6 year old boy from our very own back yard of Aurora, Colorado, who is battling Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Grandview has ¨adopted¨ Joseph as its Wish Child 2017, to make his dream of seeing the Fireworks at Walt Disney World with his family a reality. As a school, it is our goal to raise $15,000 for Joseph and his family.

Throughout the week of February 13-17, we will be hosting many events, much like home-coming week, with all proceeds going toward Joseph’s wish. We know we cannot do this on our own! We would greatly appreciate your support for and attendance at these events. If Grandview’s student body and staff come together to support these special events, we can truly make a little boy’s wish come true.

This week, although it is a lot like homecoming, is something so much larger than ourselves. It would be amazing to see Grandview’s student body and staff come together, not to cheer on the football team, not to listen to the beautiful voices in the choir, but to help a little boy attain his wish of going to Disney World.

As one of the top schools in the district academically, it is safe to say the Wolves of Grandview are very blessed. Now, it is our turn to help, Joseph, who is not as blessed, experience his one wish.

I have attached a 2 minute promo to this donation page. Please view it and catch up on all our previous Wish Kids and learn a little bit more about Joseph. Thank you all for your cooperation, participation and understanding. We are all looking forward to our Wish Week, and to helping make Joseph’s wish come true. https://youtu.be/kFsJOt-ZV78

GAIT-PASS would like to welcome you to the 2016-17 school year. We enjoyed

connecting with many of you during the check-in process, and we have received interest from other outreach efforts as well. As a reminder, here are a few points explaining the purpose of

GAIT-PASS:

GAIT-PASS is a committee of parents and staff that combines the functions of a school accountability committee with the functions of an equity-focused PASS group.

Together, we discuss academic and social aspects of Grandview High School with the goal of

making sure every student has the opportunities and support they need to be successful.

We additionally strive to engage in meaningful and effective partnerships with our African American and Latino families to promote the academic success of students of color.

Through participation in GAIT-PASS, you have an opportunity to connect with Grandview staff and administration to discuss current school policies, practices, and climate, while learning to navigate all that is Grandview High School. We are looking forward to a great year!
