The Golden Quill

Starting a new school may seem scary at first but af-ter some time you will get used to it.

Everyone has that nervous feeling when they walk into school that day. It is totally normal.. Nev-er the less, you should always try to present your self in the best way because first impressions al-ways count. Try to be positive and nev-

er feel that you don’t belong.

After some time, you will know your way around the school and it won’t be something to worry your head about.

This what Paige felt on her first day of AJK, ‘I felt nervous and scared because I was not sure if I could make friends’ but she did make friends in the end.

Make sure you try your best and you will always exceed in your learning. Al-ways remember to (even when you feel down) to put a smile on your face—it will make you feel better.

This is the front entrance of an amazing , educational school;

When having gerbils

you don’t need a lot of

time like you do with a

dog. However, a suita-

ble amount of time

would be 20-30

minutes a day maybe 1

hour every week. How-

ever, you can spend as

much time as you want

as they are loveable

and fun small pets.

You need to be a car-

ing person as they are

very fragile and need

care when handling

them.

When getting gerbils

you should always buy

2, this is because they

grow up in packs and

like to have company.

However, if unfortu-

nately one passes

away you shouldn't

get another one. This

is because they

would get scared that

the new gerbil is in-

truding upon their

territory and they

would fight until the

death. This is the

same with introduc-

ing your gerbils to

your friends’ gerbils.

[If they have any.]

If one gerbil does die

then they are going to

need more love and

attention than before,

as very quickly they

will start to become

depressed (extreme

sadness). If however

you don’t play with

your gerbil it could

die earlier of sad-

ness.

You will need to

get a suitable size

What pet do you have and

what's its name?

Saniye-yr7 has a pet tor-

toise called Speedy.

What's the funniest thing it

does? Speedy attempts to

climb up the walls.

What pet do you have and

what's its name?

The Golden Quill

At Ark John Keats Academy, students are provided with the op-portunity to broaden their futures with their subject lessons and their enrichment classes. The students are very lucky to be able to receive enrich-ment lessons on Wednesdays and Fri-days afternoons. Our enrichment sessions vary between activities like learning the skills of football and table tennis and learning different languages

like Spanish, French and Japanese. This article will provide you with knowledge on the kinds of enrichment opportunities we have at our school e.g;

Netball

Basketball

Chess

Badminton

Abida Alom from Poland in

Year 9 contributed her opin-

ion on enrichment by say-

ing,’ I think enrichment is a

good idea as we get to try

new things and do things we

get to find new hobbies.

One thing we can do to im-

prove our enrichment pro-

gram, would be to possibly

be able to receive our first

choices.’

Michael Gennuh-Sarpong

from Poland in year 9 also

said,’ I think the enrichment

program is a really good

idea. However, I think the

enrichment sessions could

be longer. For example,

football on a Wednesday’

Leyan Mahendran from

Kenya in year 7 said that,’

I had enrichment in my

primary school, but there

are better choices and

more activities. However,

there could also be more

options within different

topics.’

The basics on enrichment

Jasmine’s top tips

for enrichment

~ Enrichment takes place on Wednesdays from 15:00 to 16:00. It also takes place on Friday from 15:15 to 16:30

~ Remember to write your enrichment choices on the cor-rect day in your plan-ner with the place.

~ Show 100% effort in all of your enrich-ment sessions. You’re very lucky to be able to receive these enrichment sessions!

Enrichment At Ark John Keats!

The Golden Quill Term 1 2016-2017

Here at Ark John Keats

Academy, we provide

the children with tasks

where they can show

their life skills in order

to succeed in that task.

Recently, we introduced

a new program named

FRANKLIN SCHOLARS.

This program helps little chil-

dren, who are transitioning

from primary to secondary

soon, with their social well-

being and also helps broaden

their confidence by mentoring

them, supporting their literacy

and developing friendship

groups. This program at Ark

John Keats is totally ran by the

year 9’s here, with

someone external

who comes to train them . It

also gives them

better interaction

skills, because it

Viewing what they did in

those mentoring classes,

I saw that they were play-

ing a game called

‘SPLAT’. A person who

unfortunately was elimi-

nated from the game was

Gamze from Canada. So I

asked her in the mean

time, “ Why did you pick

to do this program?”

She said, “ I wanted to

help the year 3’s to pre-

pare them for their fu-

ture. I think that in or-

der for a child to suc-

ceed in the years com-

ing before them, they

need someone to men-

tor them.” I then asked

Justice,” How will this

help you in the future?”

He then said,” I think

could give me. Ms

Tip number one- Have your

planner with you at all

times. Close it (make sure

the waterproof cover is on

it) and put it in your bag.

Otherwise, the pages will

get bent.

Tip number two- Make

sure you pack your bag the

night before. Check in the

morning again and check

in your pencil case.

Tip number three- if you

have space in your pencil

case, put two of each item

in your case or bag.

Tip number four- When you

make your tie look in the

mirror. This will help you

make your tie look nice

and smart.

Tip number five- When

you have work you need

to write. You could read

over your work more than

once. You could read over

your work and change

some words to show off

what you know.

Tip number six- Make

sure your laces are tied.

Tip number seven– Com-

plete your homework at

least two nights before

it’s due.

Tip number eight– If you

have a question ask your

teacher as soon as you

think of it.

Tip number nine– Bring in

a healthy snack to keep

up tour energy.

Tip number ten- Bring in a

book you enjoy or borrow

one from the library.

This is John Keats. He worked

ridiculously hard to succeed. But,

in the end he did it. Remember,

we all know that

are so funny that

you`ll be in big trou-

So as this is a joke article obviously I'm go-

ing to include some jokes so that’s why I'm

going to include some jokes write? Here’s a

joke that probably is true and reasonable:

‘I thought I’d begin reading a poem from

Shakespeare, but then I thought, why should

I, he never reads any of mine.’ Spike Milli-

gan.

The person that got the history of

memes going was a man called

Jack Dawkins in 1976. People often

know memes as the subset of the

internet. After all it is known that

they are almost clicked over a mil-

lion times a day. No wonder they’re

so famous. A man even broke his

screen after reading one! How fun-

ny right ! No?...

Ark John Keats Year 8 Football Team

ABOUT THE TEAM

Here at Ark John Keats we

love football. Especially our

own teams! Some of our play-

ers had a few things to say

about what they feel about

the team.

‘The football team is a great

thing to be part of as it gets

you away from normal every-

day school life. It also allows

you to take part in competi-

tive games with other schools

in our community!’

For those who aren't in the

team, it’s never too late to

try! We have football enrich-

ments which allow unseen

talents to show off their skills

and try to get into the team.
