To All Members and Members to be,

It looks as this year is starting out different as far as the gatherings go. Who

could have predicted we would all be confined to the house due to an

outbreak of this magnitude? I believe we will all come out of this hopefully

better than ever and realize that at any time what can happen when you

least expect it. A lot of our activities have been postponed and will be

rescheduled when this crisis has been cleared by the government. At this

time, we just need to do what is necessary to gain back control of our life

and hope for the best for everyone.

As a chapter and members of GWRRA we have survived a lot of different

issues and we will survive this. If there are members that need help let us

keep the lines of communication open and help each other where and

when we are needed. If you need something from this chapter please let

someone on the staff know and they can notify me and I can get a call out

to all members to see if anyone can help you with what you need help

with. I am sure with this chapter’s resources we can come up with a

solution to give you the help that you need.

Diane and I are very lucky to have so many great people in our chapter and

feel so blessed to have so many friends that we feel are family. We have

been supported by so many great people and invite all ideas that you have.

We will survive as Americans and as Chapter O members. We are strong

as a chapter and a family that will go on and continue as long as we believe.

God bless us all and stay well,

Vernon Hunt and Diane Angermeier

Hello Friends,

Who could have predicted the situation we find ourselves in? With the

weather improving we can all still look forward to the activities our days

offer, whether it be early spring cleaning or those honey do jobs we said

we would finish when we have the time. It’s also a good time to read, catch

up on a television series, or get to know the person next to you a little bit

better. I think we can all be thankful for having friends, family, and loved

ones near to us. These difficult times will pass. Blue skies, warm temps, and

curvy roads will soon be here for us to enjoy once again.

God bless you all,

Jim and Mary Swanson

Motorist Awareness

Charles & Kathy

Friedman

Treasurers

Hello Everyone

April is dedicated as Distracted Driving month. I am sure everyone knew that, right? If

not, you do now. As fellow motorcycle riders we are all encouraged to help make the

public aware of our being on the road. It simply can save a life and maybe your own.

As individuals or Chapters, we can make it happen. As we have said before, it’s not that

hard and a lot of us are doing it already. A few things that can be done in April (or

anytime) to help make the public aware of us is, doing handouts at mall shows, car

shows, rest stops, at malls, department store and dealerships for car and motorcycles.

Also always talk safety at restaurants and gas stations. For more info on handouts,

contact us.

The automobile industries have provided us with safer vehicles with the electronic

sensors that warn us of vehicles too close on either side of our vehicle and even

provide braking assist for anticipated front end collisions. As motorcyclists, we don’t

have these luxuries and have to depend on our driving skills as we travel our highways and backroads. We ask the motorist to use common sense and the safety technology

in the auto and trucks to help share the road and keep everyone safe, them and US.

There is a range of distracting activities from talking, texting on their phones, eating,

grooming, and reading. Even the hands-free devices are a risk of mental distractions.

The human mind can only process one thing at a time. Your eyes may see something

but the brain can’t react because you are talking to aunt Sue.

Common Distractions

☺ Turn your phone off or switch it to silent mode before you get in the car. Then

stow it away so that it’s out of reach.

☺ If you need to make a call, pull over to a safe area first.

☺ Ask a passenger to make the call or respond to a text for you.

☺ Don’t ever text and drive, surf the web, use mapping apps, or read your email while

driving. It’s dangerous and against the law in most states.

☺ If using a GPS device, enter your destination before you start to drive. If you prefer

a map or written directions, review them in advance. If you need help while driving,

ask a passenger to assist you or pull over to a safe location to change your GPS or

review your map/directions.

☺ Secure your pets. Unsecured pets can be a big distraction in the car.

☺ Pull over to a safe place to address situations involving children in the car.

☺ Multi-tasking behind the wheel is dangerous. Refrain from eating, drinking, reading,

grooming, smoking, and any other activity that takes your mind and eyes off the

road.

Drive defensively and have FUN

TOPIC: Spring is coming, March 20!

Making sure that your motorcycle is fit for the road is just as important as

practicing safe riding. Should something be wrong with your motorcycle, it

will be in your best interest to find out prior to hitting the road. To make

sure that your motorcycle is in good working order, check the following:

Tires — check for any cracks or bulges, or signs of wear in the treads.

Low tire pressure or any defects could cause a blowout.

Under the motorcycle — Look for signs of oil or gas leaks

Headlight, taillight and signals — Test for high and low beams. Make

sure that all lights are functioning

Hydraulic and Coolant fluids — Level should be checked regularly

Clutch and throttle — Make sure they are working smoothly. Throttle

should snap back when released.

Mirrors — Clean and adjust all mirrors to ensure sharpest viewing

Brakes — Test front and rear brakes. Each brake should feel firm and hold

the motorcycle still when fully applied

Horn — Test the horn

Louisiana Rally

Hello GWRRA members.

The Louisiana District Directors and the Louisiana Team hope that ALL

GWRRA members come through these trying times without any

problems. We know our 2020 rally is not of great importance as the many

concerns going on in our country with the spread of this virus, but we have

established a new date and wanted to make you aware of it.

Our 2020 Mardi Gras Madness Rally will be October 22nd, 23rd, & 24th.

As of this time, both of our rides are still in place. October 21st will be the

New Orleans tour and October 25th will be the escorted tour lead by the

Shriners.

This is also an opportunity for you to attend 2 major rallies in 2 weeks. The

Mississippi Rally is October 15th, 16th & 17th the week before our rally.

This is double the fun only 127 miles from each other. This is

an opportunity that you may not want to pass up.

We ask EVERYONE that was registered, to reply to this email to

let us know if you would like a full refund or, keep your March

registration in place and roll it over to October.

Do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.

Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) CDC

Take steps to protect yourself and others

Clean your hands often

Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds especially after

you have been in a public place, or after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.

If soap and water are not readily available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least

60% alcohol. Cover all surfaces of your hands and rub them together until they feel

dry.

Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.

Avoid close contact

Avoid close contact with people who are sick

Put distance between yourself and other people if COVID-19 is spreading in your

community. This is especially important for people who are at higher risk of getting

very sick.

Stay home if you’re sick

Stay home if you are sick, except to get medical care. Learn what to do if you are

sick.

Cover coughs and sneezes

Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze or use the

inside of your elbow.

Throw used tissues in the trash.

Immediately wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and

water are not readily available, clean your hands with a hand sanitizer that contains at

least 60% alcohol.

Wear a facemask if you are sick

If you are sick: You should wear a facemask when you are around other people

(e.g., sharing a room or vehicle) and before you enter a healthcare provider’s office.

If you are not able to wear a facemask (for example, because it causes trouble

breathing), then you should do your best to cover your coughs and sneezes, and

people who are caring for you should wear a facemask if they enter your room.

Learn what to do if you are sick.

If you are NOT sick: You do not need to wear a facemask unless you are caring for

someone who is sick (and they are not able to wear a facemask). Facemasks may be

in short supply and they should be saved for caregivers.

Clean and disinfect

Clean AND disinfect frequently touched surfaces daily. This includes tables,

doorknobs, light switches, countertops, handles, desks, phones, keyboards, toilets,

faucets, and sinks.

If surfaces are dirty, clean them: Use detergent or soap and water prior to

disinfection.
