SDA CHURCH RAISED UP TO PREACH THE 3 A’S MESSAGES

“In a special sense Seventh-day Adventists have been set in the world as watchmen and

light bearers. To them has been

entrusted the last warning for a perishing world.”

Testimonies, Vol.9, 19.

SDA CHURCH RAISED UP TO PREACH THE 3 A’S MESSAGES

“They have been given a work of the most solemn import—the

proclamation of the first, second, and third angels' messages.

There is no other work of so great importance.

They are to allow nothing else to absorb their attention.”

Testimonies, Vol.9, 19.

Who isGod?

Warning!!

The highest intellect may tax itself until it is wearied out on conjectures regarding the nature of God, but the effort will be fruitless. This problem has not been given us to solve. No human mind can comprehend God. None are to indulge in speculation regarding His nature.

{E. G. White, The Ministry of Healing (Mountain View, Cal.: Pacific Press Publishing Association, 1905), p. 429.}

Genesis 1:26

And God said, Let us make man

in our image, after our likeness.

How many gods? Deuteronomy 6:4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God [is] one LORD:

The Godhead

Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man’s device. Acts 17:29

What is Godhead? 1. Godship; deity; divinity; divine

nature or essence; applied to the true God, and to heathen deities.

2. A deity in person; a god or goddess.

{Webster’s 1828 dictionary}

Is God one person, with rigid singularity speaking in plurality of Majesty OR are there more

than one person within the concept of God?

D. T. Bourdeau,

"Although we claim to be believers in, and worshipers of, only one God, I have thought that there are as many gods among us as there are conceptions of the Deity” {D. T. Bourdeau, "We May Partake of the Fullness of the Father and the Son," Review and Herald, Nov 18, 1890, 707.}

Reasons for Rejecting Trinity A trinitarian view with eternal Father and son.

Father and son cannot be EQUAL in terms of time-naturally speaking

The trinitarian creed enforced by Rome in 325AD was unscriptural and of pagan origin

The Father and Son cannot be the same person

A trinitarian view of a God without body or parts could not be true

A trinitarian view that made the Holy Spirit a person could not be true

A trinitarian that makes Jesus without beginning, self-existent and God in verity

A trinitarian view with three divine persons results to three gods

A trinitarian view with Christ as self-existent Son undermines the atonement. A Human sacrifice isn't enough

Holy Spirit was never included in the expression “I and my Father are one” hence not the Spirit is not a thirdperson of the Godhead

What were some of the positions held? Only the Father is self-existent

Christ did not exist at some point- He appeared (begotten) through a process incomprehensible

Father and Son have body and parts Holy Spirit is not a person as Father and Son There are three persons in the Godhead, but one God,

not three gods Christ derived His life from the Father hence His

atonement could be sufficient The Holy Spirit is not a thirdperson of the

trinity/Godhead

Statement of Beliefs—1872

That there is one God, a personal, spiritual Being,

the Creator of all things, omnipotent, omniscient, and eternal, infinite in wisdom, holiness, justice,

goodness, truth, and mercy, unchangeable, and

everywhere present by His representative, the Holy Spirit.

Statement of Beliefs—1872

That there is one Lord Jesus Christ,

the Son of the Eternal Father, the One by whom

He created all things, and by whom they do consist.

Role of Ellen White in

understanding God

Is there time when Jesus did Is there time when Jesus did not exist?not exist?

John 17:5 And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.

Christ's ascension to heaven was the signal that His followers were to receive the promised blessing. For this they were to wait before they entered upon their work. When Christ passed within the heavenly gates, He was enthroned amidst the adoration of the angels. As soon as this ceremony was completed, the Holy Spirit descended upon the disciples in rich currents, and Christ was indeed glorified, even with the glory which He had with the Father FROM ALL ETERNITY. {Acts of Apostles p. 38}

FROM ALL ETERNITY FROM ALL ETERNITY Christ was united with the Father, and when He took upon Himself human nature, He was still one with God. He is the link that unites God with humanity. "Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same" (Hebrews 2:14). Only through Him can we become children of God. To all who believe on Him, He gives power to become the sons of God. {Selected Messages, Vol. 1, p. 228}

How is the Father and Son ‘agemates’?How is the Father and Son ‘agemates’? There are light and glory in the truth that

Christ was one with the Father before the foundation of the world was laid. This is the light shining in a dark place, making it resplendent with divine, original glory. This truth, infinitely mysterious in itself, explains other mysterious and otherwise unexplainable truths, while it is enshrined in light, unapproachable and incomprehensible. {Selected Messages, Vol. 1, p. 248}

Is the Father and Son the same person?

The Lord Jesus Christ, the divine The Lord Jesus Christ, the divine Son of God, existed from eternity, Son of God, existed from eternity, a a distinct persondistinct person, yet , yet oneone with the with the Father. {Selected messages, Vol. 2, p. Father. {Selected messages, Vol. 2, p. 247}247}

Did Jesus derive His life from the Father?

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

1:2 The same was in the beginning with God.

1:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

The world was made by Him, "and without him was not any thing made that was made" (John 1:3). If Christ made all things, He existed before all things. The words spoken in regard to this are so decisive that no one need be left in doubt. Christ was God essentially, and in the highest sense. He was with God from all eternity, GOD OVER ALL, blessed forevermore. {Selected Messages, Vol. 1, p. 247}

Is He self-existent or with derived life? Christ is the pre-existent, SELF-EXISTENT

SON OF GOD.... In speaking of his pre-existence, Christ carries the mind back through dateless ages. He assures us that there never was a time when He was not in close fellowship with the eternal God. He to whose voice the Jews were then listening had been with God as one brought up with Him.--Signs of the Times, Aug. 29, 1900. {Evangelism p. 615}

Martha answered, "I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.“ Still seeking to give a true direction to her faith, Jesus declared, "I am the resurrection, and the life." In Christ is life, original, unborrowed, UNDERIVED. "He that hath the Son hath life." 1 John 5:12. { Desire of Ages p. 530}

What died at the cross? He who said, “I lay down my life, that I

might take it again,” came forth from the grave to life that was in Himself. Humanity died; DIVINITY DID NOT DIE. In His divinity, Christ possessed the power to break the bonds of death.—YI Aug. 4, 1898. {The Truth about Angels 209.3}

Is the Holy Spirit a person? Acts 5:1 But a certain man named Ananias,

with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession, 5:2 And kept back [part] of the price, his

wife also being privy [to it], and brought a certain part, and laid [it], at the apostles' feet.

5:3 But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back [part] of the price of the land?

Is the Holy Spirit a person? We need to realize that the Holy Spirit, who is

as much a person as God is a person, is walking through these grounds.--Manuscript 66, 1899. (From a talk to the students at the Avondale School.) {Evangelism p. 616}

The Holy Spirit is a person, for He beareth witness with our spirits that we are the children of God. {Evangelism p. 616}

Is the Holy Spirit God? Acts 5:3 But Peter said, Ananias, why hath

Satan filled thine heart TO LIE TO THE HOLY GHOST, and to keep back [part] of the price of the land?

5:4 Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? THOU HAST NOT LIED UNTO THOU HAST NOT LIED UNTO MEN, BUT UNTO GODMEN, BUT UNTO GOD.

The prince of the power of evil The prince of the power of evil can onlycan only be held in check by be held in check by the power of God the power of God in the in the third person of the Godheadthird person of the Godhead, the , the Holy Spirit.--Special Testimonies, Holy Spirit.--Special Testimonies, Series A, No. 10, p. 37. (1897) Series A, No. 10, p. 37. (1897) {Evangelism p. 617} {Evangelism p. 617}

The Comforter that Christ promised to send after He ascended to heaven, is the Spirit in is the Spirit in all the fullness of the Godheadall the fullness of the Godhead, making manifest the power of divine grace to all who receive and believe in Christ as a personal Saviour. {Ev angelism p. 615}

In Christ "dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily, and in Him ye are made full." Colossians 2:9, 10

How many persons are in the Godhead?

We are to co-operate with the three highest powers in heaven,--the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, --and these powers will work through us, making us workers together with Godwith God.--Special Testimonies, Series B, No. 7, p. 51. (1905) {Evangelism p. 617}

There are three living persons of the heavenly trio; in the NAMENAME of these three great powers --the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit--those who receive Christ by living faith are baptized, and these powers will co-operate with the obedient subjects of heaven in their efforts to live the new life in Christ.-- Special Testimonies, Series B, No. 7, pp. 62, 63. (1905) {Evangelism p 615}

How many gods? Deuteronomy 6:4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God [is] one LORD:

Echad- ‘one’ Genesis 11:5 And the LORD came down to

see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.

11:6And the LORD said, Behold, the people the people [is] [is] oneone, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.

Echad- ‘one’ Genesis 2:24 Therefore shall a

man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be oneone flesh.

So how many do they make?So how many do they make? Mathew 19:5Mathew 19:5 And said, For this cause And said, For this cause

shall a man leave father and mother, and shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? shall be one flesh?

19:619:6 Wherefore Wherefore THEY ARE NO THEY ARE NO MORE TWAINMORE TWAIN, , but onebut one flesh. What flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. man put asunder.

So what does One mean? The unity that exists between Christ

and His disciples does not destroy the personality of either. They ARE ONE in purpose, in mind, in character, but not in person. It is thus that God and Christ are one…. {Counsels for Church, p. 76}

Our Redemption The Godhead was stirred with pity for the

race, and the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit gave themselves to the working out of the plan of redemption.--Counsels on Health, p. 222. {S.D.A Bible Commentary, Vol.7A p. 442}
