This past weekend Durban HighSchool hosted the Basher Downes U12Rugby Sevens Tournament. We werefortunate enough to host 16 primaryschool teams from throughout thecountry. A feature of the tournament was thatteams got to play under floodlights onthe Friday night. As per usual, thequality of the tournament did notdisappoint, with an excellent brand ofrugby on display! Spectators wereastounded in the manner in whichthese young men threw the ballaround and playing with nothingholding them back. Whilst there were some primaryschools who were playing their firstever game of 7s, we also had some ofthe primary school teams who havefully fledged 7s seasons. In the end, Grey College werecrowned the 2019 DHS U12 BasherDownes 7s winners. They edged aflamboyant KZN Development U12team in the final, 10‐5. Extra-Mural Results SOCCER vs ST CHARLES 1st XI Match Report: The DHS 1st XI Soccer side playedagainst St Charles up at St Charles on3 August 2019. The first half sawDHS dominate possession and createa lot of pressure for St Charles’defence but they failed to breach itwith a goal from open play. School’shigh possession count, however, didresult in a lot of attacking cornersand throw in situations whicheventually led to the first goal whichwas slotted home by our captain,Joshua Reddy.
The second half was more of thesame one way trafficking, with StCharles spending most of the timedefending as DHS hunted for a 2ndgoal. St Charles pulled a goal backwith 10 minutes to go against therun of play which made the closing
minutes in the game very exciting asboth sides searched for a winner, tono avail. DHS look forward to playingKloof High School midweek.
