Since 2000, our teams have won more than 30 state championships and produced individual state champions in nordic skiing, alpine skiing, cross-country running, golf, swimming, and tennis. Campus FieldsAND FACILITIES•Full-Sized Gym: Enjoyed by basketball players and fans alike, the gym is alsoequipped with a rock climbing wall, battingcage, and pitching machine.•Weight-Training Room: Here varsity athletes have the opportunity to incorporatestrengthening and conditioning into theirtraining regimen.•Lighted Turf Field: Enabling spring athletes to start outdoor practicing early, the turf field hosts games that showcase oursoccer, field hockey, and lacrosse teams under the lights.•Grass Playing Fields:We have four well-groomed fields, including two diamondsspecifically dedicated to baseball and softball.• 84-Acre Wooded Campus: Athletes enjoy a5K Cross Country running trail, as well ashigh and low rope courses.

•Tennis Courts: A great place for our teamsto practice and compete; our six tenniscourts have hosted major tournaments, including NCAA Division II Regional Championships.

OFF-CAMPUS VENUES•Derryfield’s partnership with Southern New Hampshire University gives Derryfield teams access to university facilities, including its 25-meter six-laneswimming pool, where our swimmers practice and compete.•Derryfield skiers use nearby Pat’s Peak for practice, and they race on some of thearea’s most exciting courses at Loon, Cannon, Wildcat, and Sunapee.•The Derryfield crew team uses the AmoskegRowing Club, located in Hooksett, NH, totrain and host races on the Merrimack River.

Our CoachesDerryfield’s well-qualified coaches have playing experience in college and beyond, and boast a range of coaching credentials and honors. Here are a few:

• Outfielder at Plymouth State University, 1988-1992• Holds 5 collegiate baseball records, and won 5 MVP in state semi-pro baseball leagues• Played professional ball for Nashua Pride and Israel Baseball League• Named 2009 Division IV Coach of the Year, and led the team to their 2003 Division IV State Championship win

• Midfielder at Brown University, 1995-1999• Coached Concord High School team to 3 Division I Championships• Coached Derryfield to the 2005 State Championship final

• Coached Derryfield to 4 Class S State Championships (2001-2002, 2009-2010) to pushthe total number of school championships to 14• Named 1993 and 2002 New Hampshire SoccerCoaches Association Coach of the Year• NHSA Olympic Development Program coach,1992-2005, currently ODP director• Founder of Magic Touch Soccer Academy

One of the best things about Derryfieldsports is “having captains to guide you

through what you needto work on, and to help you with yourweaknesses, or help youget better with yourstrengths,” says Sierra,a 7th grader from Goffstown, N.H. She

plays soccer, softball, and basketballand knows that her athletic experiencesat Derryfield have helped to build herskills. In soccer she’s improved her defense; in softball she’s learned tosteal bases; in basketball, her bestsport, she has gained confidence as aball handler. She says, “I love being apoint guard and calling different plays.”

“Every state championship will be something that I remember forthe rest of my life,” says Brittany, a senior from Bedford, N.H. A four-year varsity soccer, basketball, and tennis player,

Brittany is proud of winning three consecutive soccerstate championshipsand two consecutivetennis state championships, as well as being

selected captain for all threesports. She calls Derryfield’scoaches “talented and encouraging” noting, “It helps that most of our coaches are our teachers and understand our homework load every night.”

“I love the feeling of teamwork on the field and the competitivenessin the games,” says Polly, an 8th grader from Hopkinton, N.H.Polly shows off her own talents on town and premier league lacrosseteams, and as a championship-winning ski jumper with the AndoverOuting Club. She also competes as a member of Derryfield’s middleschool soccer, lacrosse, and ski teams. At Derryfield, she says, “Ihave learned that to be a successful team, everyone must work totheir full ability.”

“In soccer and lacrosse I have had dedicated, hardworking, experienced,and fun coaches,” says Matt, a junior

from Manchester who has enjoyed multiplechampionship seasons.“They put in a lot oftime to make theirteam succeed.” Matt,who has played six seasons with the New

Hampshire Tomahawks lacrosse organization, believes that Derryfieldcoaches really bond with each player.He states, “That relationship betweenplayers and coaches is the reason Derryfield athletics are so successful.”

“I am able to manage my school work,my school sports, and my hockeywhile I go to Derryfield,” says Dominick, an 8th grader from Windham, N.H. Playing hockey for

the nationally rankedGreater Boston Vipersas well as the OlympicDevelopment hockeyteam, Dominick playsbaseball and soccer at Derryfield. While winning the Tri-Couny

Championship with the middle schoolsoccer team was a favorite moment,Dominick says one of his best experiences was Derryfield’s Marchbreak baseball training camp. “I wasproud that I was able to keep up with the upper school students on thevarsity team,” he says.

All middle school 8th grade athletes are given theopportunity to attend varsity preseason practicesfor their sport.

55% of 7th and 8th graders play 3 sports at Derryfield. All 7th and 8th graders are required to play 2 sports.

Derryfield MiddleSchool coaches havea cumulative total of160 years of coachingexperience and an average of 20 yearsof coaching expertise.

MIDDLE SCHOOL SPORTS

Middle SchoolATHLETICSSTART IMPROVING NOWIf being an athlete is part of who you are and important to your future aspirations, Derryfield is the place for you. We support the athletic development of every middle school student, and we particularly welcome the contributions of experienced athletes. Our middle school athletes routinelyplay for town travel and elite or premier teams. Derryfield’s practice andgame schedules offer the flexibility that enables them to continue to playand train with teams outside of school. Meanwhile, here at Derryfield, they benefit from great coaches and facilities and become part of a system thatwill transition them smoothly to high school athletics. Derryfield Middle School athletes play for the following travel teams: Concord Express,Manchester Monarchs/Flames, Pats Peak and Crotched Mountain Race team, North East Hurricanes, AAU Bishop Elite, Lady Twisters,NH Tomahawks, Granite State Elite, BedfordCannons and Manchester PAL Thunderstix.

Middle School sports now participate in the Tri-County League. In 2011 the Middle School boys soccer team won the Tri-County League Championship.

UPPER SCHOOL SPORTS

Upper SchoolATHLETICSGO FURTHERDerryfield is a small school with big benefits for committed athletes, particularly those who aspire to play in college. Students who are looking for a program that can give them the competitive game experience and expert coaching to reachthe next level can find it here. Talented freshman can and do play at the varsity level, thereby gaining invaluable game experience over the course of their Derryfield careers. Athletes looking to excel will benefitfrom Derryfield’s coaching staff, six of whom have been inducted into the NHIAA Hall of Fame. We alsoboast multiple coaches who have played their sport at its highest level. Our graduating varsity athletes goon to play in college (50+ colleges and universities in the past 10 years)—and some go even further!

Boys Lacrosse: 50 wins in 5 years since returning from club status in 2007, 3 Academic All Americans and a USLA AllAmerican in the past two years.

Crew: Girls crew went to US Nationals in 2003, and Boys crewwent to US Nationals in 2005.

Girls Basketball: In 2011 Bethany Kalliel ’12 became only the 4th Derryfield Girls Basketballplayer to score 1000 points.

Field Hockey: Went 17-0 in 2007and 2010. In 2010,conceded only 2goals in 17 gamesand none in postseason.

Boys Soccer: Posted 2 undefeated regular seasons (2000, 2008) and has qualified for the NHIAA playoffs every season, including 7 semifinal and 5 final appearances since 2000.
