In thelast few years, our baseball, basketball, crew, football, ice hockey,lacrosse, tennis, cross country and alpine ski teams have all playedin the NEPSAC championship contests or have won league titles.

Team Accomplishments

At Salisbury, we take pride in our accomplishments in the classroomand the community, as well as on the playing fields. Salisbury’s athletic mission is to provide each boy with an experience that willteach the values of hard work and the importance of teamwork.

ALPINE SKIINGOur skiers have won individual championships, and placedon the podium as a team several times in both slalom andgiant slalom. Many of our varsity skiers have gone on to skiat the Division II (USCSA) level in college, where they havebeen key members of national caliber programs. Ourcoaching staff is one of the most experienced in the countrywith four coaches and over a hundred years of coaching ex-perience between them in addition to NCAA Division IChampionship competition.

BASEBALLThe baseball team at Salisbury has had remarkable success inWestern New England. The 2008 team finished with a perfect20-0 record. The 2010 team finished 16-1 and was ranked inthe top 25 in the country. Many players have gone on toachieve great success in college baseball and a few havebeen drafted by major league teams.

BASKETBALLOver the years, Salisbury School has produced one of thefinest basketball teams in New England. The Crimson Knightshave qualified for post-season play in each of the past fiveyears and 18 times in the last 21 years. The 2010-2011 seasonsaw Salisbury move up to NEPSAC Class “A” basketball.

CROSS COUNTRY Salisbury’s cross country team competes in Division II of theNew England Prep School Athletic Association (NEPSAC).The rolling hills of the southern Berkshires, coupled with therural location and access to challenging trails, create an idealenvironment for a rigorous and rewarding training regime.Salisbury’s home cross country course is a favorite amongstopposing coaches for its terrain and slope changes.

FOOTBALLThe football program at Salisbury has a long and storied his-tory of playing competitive and inspiring football since 1904.True to its tradition of success, the 2010 Knights team wonthe Erickson League title and completed its undefeated sea-son as they won the New England Class “A” Championship.The team also won the New England Championship in 2006.

GOLFThe golf program competes against some of the topprep teams in the country. Throughout the seasonthe team plays in a number of large tournamentswith fields of more than 100 competitors. Salisburypractices and plays all home matches at WyantenuckCountry Club, located just 15 minutes from campus.

HOCKEYThe hockey program has traditionally been one ofthe strongest in New England having won the PrepChampionship in 2006 and again in 2009. The teamcompetes in the highly-competitive FoundersLeague, winning the league title in 2005, 2006,2009 and 2011.

LACROSSEThe lacrosse team has earned national recognition forits success in preparing players for college. The teamwon the competitive Western New England leaguetitle in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2009 and 2010. NumerousSalisbury players have earned All-League and All-American honors. The season always begins with atrip to play non-league, nationally ranked competition.

ROWINGOur rowing program has been one of the most suc-cessful in the country. Graduates have gone on torow in the Olympics, on the National Team and theJunior National Team and at the most selective col-leges and universities in the United States.

SAILINGSailing is the newest interscholastic sport at Salis-bury. After starting as a recreational program, Salis-bury sailing has come into its own as a team that isserious about competing in one of the most intenseregions in the country for interscholastic sailing.

SOCCERThe soccer program at Salisbury competes amongsome of the elite programs in New England. Sincethe mid 1990s, Salisbury soccer has made numerouspost-season appearances, the last being in 2003.

SQUASHSalisbury’s squash program has grown rapidly in thepast decade to one of the largest boys’ programs inNew England. With the construction of the FloodAthletic Center, Salisbury now boasts a world-class,eight-court facility, enabling the School to host theNew England Championships in 2010 and 2011. Recent graduates have gone on to play at top collegiate level schools.

TENNISSalisbury’s tennis team offers players an intense andambitious season with as many as 15 dual matchesagainst other schools in the New England PrepSchool Athletic Association. In addition, players par-ticipate in and have achieved recent success at theSouthern New England Championship, and have theopportunity to qualify for the season ending NewEngland Championship.

WRESTLINGSalisbury’s wrestling team has begun to establish it-self as a competitor among the larger programs inNew England. In recent years, a number of Salisburywrestlers have been New England Champions, in-cluding several who earned All-American honors.

General Information

THE SCHOOL Salisbury School is a four-year, independent college preparatory school for boys in grades ninethrough twelve and post-graduate. Founded in 1901 by the Reverend George E. Quaile, the Schoolenrolls 300 boys: 280 boarders and 20 day students from over 30 states and 20 foreign countries.Approximately 30% of the student body receives need-based financial aid.

THE MISSIONAt Salisbury, our mission is to educate young men by inspiring in each student an enthusiasm forlearning and the self-confidence needed for intellectual, spiritual, physical and moral development.Salisbury strieves to graduate young men ready to meet the challenges of college and adulthoodwith an appreciation of their responsibilities in the world community.

THE FACULTYThe faculty and administration is comprised of 65 men and women. More than 60 percent of thecurrent instructors have obtained a Master’s degree or higher or are enrolled in a graduate pro-gram. The School’s seventh headmaster, Chisholm S. Chandler, was appointed in 2003.

THE ACADEMIC PROGRAMThe goals of the academic program are to challenge and support the individual so that he willgraduate from Salisbury ready to meet the demands of a rigorous college program and be ableto make intelligent and moral decisions about life. The academic calendar is divided into threetrimesters. A normal course load for students in all grades consists of five classes per trimester.In addition, all sixth formers must fulfill a community service requirement. Classes meet Mondaythrough Saturday.
