The Dem Newsletter Week 6 - Friday 26 August 2016 Our public speaking superstar!!!!! This year students in Years 3-6 at North Sydney Demonstration School participated in the Multicultural Public Speaking Competition. The Multicultural Public Speaking Competition is open to all NSW government primary schools. The competition has two different age divisions one for Years 3&4 students and one for Years 5&6. Schools can enter a maximum of 2 contestants in each of the 2 age divisions, totalling 4 contestants overall. The purpose of the competition is to provide students with an opportunity to practice their public speaking skills, heighten their awareness of multicultural issues, and improve their confidence. Rafferty from Year 3 has won our School Final, our Local Schools Final, and Our Regional Schools Final and is now preparing to compete in October at the State finals. What an amazing accomplishment. Well done Rafferty!! The Financial Freeze is here!!!! As mentioned in many previous newsletters, North Sydney Demonstration School is about to migrate to a new system for managing finance and student administration (LMBR). In preparation for the rollover to this new system a financial freeze will be in place starting today and finishing on September 5 (our Go Live date). During this time no payments will be able to be made to or from the school. Wish us luck! G&T Information Evening Ours school’s Gifted and Talented Coordinator, Sophie Honeybourne, will be holding an information evening for parents who have a child in Kindergarten 2016 or who are new to the school in 2016 and would like to find out more about the school’s Gifted & Talented policy and provisions. The information evening will start at 6.00pm on Wednesday 31 August in the staffroom, which is located in McHatton Building. Topics to be covered on this evening include: What is giftedness? What are the school’s policy and provisions for gifted students? How will the school identify and cater for the needs of my child? This information night is particularly useful for parents who are unsure about whether their child may be gifted. Letters were sent out earlier in the week to all Kindergarten students along with G&T nomination forms.
