    ACT ONE

    FADE IN:

INT. COSTA RICA RAINFOREST - GORDI CAMP MAIN TENT -- NIGHT

SUPERIMPOSE: "2231 - Costa Rica - Gordi Camp"

PROFESSOR PETER GORDI (47) is holding a magnifying glassover a terracota artifact that is illuminated by his desklamp spotlight, deeply in focus on the object. The sound ofrain DRUMMING on the tent top eases up a bit. The entryflap moves and a young female, ABIGAIL MASSEY (24), entersthe tent. Her hair is wet and her sodden clothes cling. Sheholds a waterproof bag in her right hand.

    ABIGAILProfessor, you aren't asleep.

    PROF. GORDI

No, Abi, but you aren't either. What you are doing up so late?

    ABIGAILI think I found SRO.

PROF. GORDI(straightens as if pricked bya needle)

    What? A SRO?

ABIGAILNot one, I think I've got three.

    PROF. GORDIYou sure?

    ABIGAILI'll show you.

Abigail pulls her cell device from a waterproof bag andturns on a virtual screen projector.

ABIGAIL (CONT'D)OK, here, the blue dots, all theseon the map... we know about.

Abigail presses a key and another layer appears. Three reddots are rather close to the little triangle thatrepresents their camp.

ABIGAIL (CONT'D)There're the new ones. Quiteclose, two hours walk throughjungle.

    PROF. GORDI(thinking for two seconds)

That's about 5 kilometers... whatcompelled you to walk there? You're sure about the coordinates.

    ABIGAIL

I got a bit disoriented when thedownpour hit. Coords... within 150meters.

PROF. GORDIHow close did you get?

ABIGAILAbout 5 meters when I saw thefirst one.

Abigail POINTS to one red dot.

ABIGAIL (CONT'D)I grabbed a stick for atriangulation. I think I could seea symmetrical reflective pattern.

PROF. GORDISmart girl! We can't be sure theseare SROs, but why take the risk?

ABIGAILI punched it in when I was 2kilometers off the location.

PROF. GORDIGlad you did. It's highly likelythey are SROs, we better call TheKeepers right away.

    ABIGAILYou can call them direct?

PROF. GORDINo, I've got to request aconnection through the faculty, and once The Keepers are located, they would call us here. It's amiddle of night... so it may takea few hours. Why don't you getsome sleep... I'll wake you uponce the connection isestablished, I am sure they'llwant to confirm details straightfrom you.

INT. COSTA RICA RAINFOREST, GORDI CAMP -- MORNING, INT.ZEIRA CENTER OFFICE -- MORNING

Phone RINGS and wakes up PROF. GORDI. He quickly switchesto intercom.

    CUT TO: ZEIRA OFFICE

    SUPERIMPOSE: "2231 - Zeira Center"

SARAH WEAVER (apparent age 35, a spitting image ofCATHERINE WEAVER) is in her simply furnished office atZeira Center.

SARAHGood morning Professor Gordi,Let's skip the etiquette and getright to business.

    CUT TO: GORDI CAMP

PROF. GORDIYes, ma'am. Would you please giveme a minute to get my assistant,Abi?

    CUT TO: ZEIRA OFFICE

SARAHThat won't be necessary, I justwanted to let you know that I'mcoming down there. I'll talk toAbi when I arrive.

    CUT TO: GORDI CAMP

PROF. GORDIMr. Hort is coming too?

    CUT TO: ZEIRA OFFICE

SARAHLikely. He's in the field, butI'll need him with me, so he maybe at the site a bit later. Firstthough, I'm sending a securityteam for a perimeter containment. They should arrive in 4 hours.I'll be at the camp... 2 hourslater.

    CUT TO: GORDI CAMP

    PROF. GORDIThank you.

    CUT TO: ZEIRA CENTER

SARAHNo, NO! I thank you! You guys havebeen outstanding! These daysalmost everyone thinks thetraining is an undue hassle.

    CUT TO: GORDI CAMP

    PROF. GORDIIt's a first, right?

    CUT TO: ZEIRA CENTER

SARAHNo, this is the second find. Thefirst was discovered 15 years ago.Without going into details, wethink it has been contained to our

satisfaction. We didn't want tomake the information public, formany reasons.

    CUT TO: GORDI CAMP

    PROF. GORDIWas it contained completely?

    CUT TO: ZEIRA CENTER

SARAHI think it has been eliminated as

a threat. We were lucky, becausethat SRO was not really functionalas intended.

    CUT TO: GORDI CAMP

PROF. GORDIDo I need to do anything here butwait?

    CUT TO: ZEIRA CENTER

SARAHNo, not really. If you want, youand your assistant can helpenlarging the trail to the stones. The security team will needclearance enough to bring inequipment a little wider than aman... about 70 centimeters.

    6.

SARAH (CONT'D)They'll do it mostly bythemselves, but theyd appreciateany head start you can give them.

    CUT TO: GORDI CAMP

PROF. GORDIExercise! OK, will start on it.

    CUT TO: ZEIRA CENTER

SARAHWell, I have to get ready, see youin a few hours.

Sarah ends the call and selects another number.

    SARAH (CONT'D)

    Derek, how things are going?

DEREK HORT (apparent age 35, resemblance to Savannah WeaverF03/F04) responds on the other end.

DEREK (O.S.)Hey you! Almost boringly slow, youknow how it goes. But somethingtells me that this isnt just anI-miss-you call.

    SARAHWe have a bogie!

    DEREK (O.S.)Sure about it?

    SARAHI think it's solid.

    DEREK (O.S.)Give me a rundown.

SARAHCosta Rica, Olmec stone balls. Wehave three extras. No activationas far as I can tell, the folksthere are thorough and responsive.Wish mom was here, to see herintuition validated.

DEREK (O.S.)I think it wouldnt really pleaseher. She'd rather be wrong inthese cases.

    7.

    SARAHMaybe you're right. So, coming?

DEREK (O.S.)Yeah. It takes me about 4 hoursdrive to reach the nearestairport, wait for a connection --

SARAHI'll arrange a charter for you, just send me your departureairport location. The copter tothe bogie site will be waiting atL.A. airport.

DEREK (O.S.)Great! You're a sweetie. So, seeyou in about 12 hours.

    SARAH

Travel light, the security teamwill already have equipment andsupplies on the way, so all weneed is you.

DEREK (O.S.)I am sure that you could handle itwithout me, but better to have aredundancy. OK, I should get ready.

SARAHI am on my way, too. Bye!

    DEREK (O.S.)Wait! One more thing...

SARAHI know, a brief for kids. Alreadyentered. We'll feed it from CostaRica.

DEREK (O.S.)OK, no worries then. See you soon!

    SARAHSee you there!

Sarah pockets the phone, then grabs her packed bag andheads toward the door. She turns in the doorway back to theroom and looks at the picture of her mother.

    INT. TEMPORARY ZEIRA OFFICE

SUPERIMPOSE: "2034, 4 weeks after the EM battle"

THE PICTURE FROM THE PREVIOUS SCENE TRANSITS FROM THE FRAME

    AND BECOMES ALIVE.

CATHERINE WEAVER (apparent age 35) sits in her temporaryoffice. A phone RINGS and Catherine turns on the intercom.

    CATHERINEYes?

ZEIRA SECURITY GUARD (O.S.)Ms. Weaver, a man named Moss ishere, requesting a meeting withyou.

    CATHERINEPlease let him in.

    KNOCK on the door.

    CATHERINE (CONT'D)Come on in!

ALBERT MOSS (56) enters followed by Savannah's securitytail.

    CATHERINE (CONT'D)(to the security officer)

Your presence isnt necessary. Please wait outside.

The security man hesitantly NODS and leaves.

CATHERINE (CONT'D)Mr. Moss, what brings you here?

MOSSI'd like to offer you informationthat may be of an interest to youin exchange for Savannah Weaver'srecall of her goons that shadow mewherever I turn.

CATHERINEIt's Savannah's call. I don't haveany part in the government.

MOSSI know. She is your daughter.

    9.

MOSS (CONT'D)Maybe you can put the word out onmy behalf?

CATHERINEMaybe. We'll see... What is thenature of your information?

MOSSOne of my associates found aSkynet facility.

    CATHERINESkynet is no more.

MOSSYes. But this facility seems to bestill running.

    CATHERINE

    (Intrigued, tension in hervoice)

    Continue.

MOSSWhat I suggest is... You make thegoons go and I'll get to thefacility to check it outpersonally and then get back toyou.

CATHERINEMaybe I can arrange a temporary

reprieve. Based on your findings,I may try to make that conditionpermanent.

    CATHERINE (CONT'D)(thinks for a moment)

It may not be easy to persuade mydaughter to leave you alone...you'd owe me.

    MOSSI can go with that.

CATHERINEHow fast can you get back to me,after your reprieve's in place?

MOSSI need a week at most.

  • 7/30/2019 The Connors Chronicles: F05E01 - Discovery

    10/51

    10.

MOSS (CONT'D)One day to the location, one ortwo days for a recon, then maybe acouple of days to get to know thepersonnel and the facility purposeand then one day back.

CATHERINEI'll see what I can do.

CATHERINE (CONT'D)You may be free to travel as earlyas tomorrow. I'd like you to leaveimmediately when the security isrecalled.

    MOSSHow would I--

    CATHERINE

It should be settled, but to makesure there are no problems, contact me early tomorrow.

    MOSSI'll be here. Seven A.M.?

    CATHERINE(nods)

Please have one of your associatesconfirm when youre under way.

    MOSS

Thanks, will do. Have a nice day!

    CATHERINEYes, good bye.

Catherine stands up after Moss leaves and looks out thewindow.

HEAD AND SHOULDERS CLOSE UP ON CATHERINE WEAVER.

EXT. COSTA RICA, LANDING STRIP NEAR GORDI CAMP -- DAY

SUPERIMPOSE: "2231 - Costa Rica, Near Gordi Camp"

THE PICTURE TRANSITS FROM THE PREVIOUS SCENE OF CATHERINEWEAVER IN HER OFFICE, THE POSTURE AND THE SUBJECT LOOKS THESAME, WHAT CHANGES IS THE SCENE AND CLOTHING.

The copter lands amidst of a heavy rainfall in a jungleclearing. SARAH WEAVER waits beside a 4WD rover, lettingthe warm rain soak her hair. DEREK HORT exits the copterand they hug, exchange a peck on the cheek, and get intothe rover.

  • 7/30/2019 The Connors Chronicles: F05E01 - Discovery

    11/51

    11.

    SARAHYou're 5 hours late!

DEREKMy truck has a mind of its own,but otherwise, my departure wasuneventful.

    SARAHA capricious truck is uneventful?

    DEREK(smiling and nodding)

    Yeah, the adventure starts here.

Sarah pulls her phone and turns on the projector and handsit to Derek. He looks at the map.

DEREK (CONT'D)That's pretty damn close to the

camp. How come no one found itearlier?

SARAHThis area hasn't been researchedyet since pre-JD days. The campsbeen established for 6 months, andthe digs and research areas alllie north of the camp. Abi,Professor Gordi's assistant, gotdisoriented in heavy rain and wentsouth and happened on the stones. She thought they were odd because

the nearest known stones were 15kilometers south-east and shewalked for only three hours, twofrom the camp location as crowflies. She checked her watch whenthe sky cleared briefly andrealized that she is due south ofthe camp. That kicked her trainingin and she used natural props totriangulate the approximatelocation. Shes damn good or damnlucky, she got it within 120meters margin of error.

    DEREKThat's quite amazing.

DEREK (CONT'D)Itd be a good result for asurveyor, let alone an archeologystudent who was lost in the firstplace!

  • 7/30/2019 The Connors Chronicles: F05E01 - Discovery

    12/51

    12.

SARAHMaybe the first find should havebeen publicized. Students would beless inclined to dismiss thetraining as rudiments of oldtimes. Once we have this wrappedup, we need to get the information

    out, including the first SRO.

DEREKMaybe youre right. Anything fromthe security team yet?

SARAHNot yet, theyre on it, butdecided to wait for us beforestarting the analysis. We have towalk from the camp. No road, theyonly just widened the path Gordispeople macheted.

    DEREKSome exercise for us, then.

They arrive at Gordi Camp and exit the rover, Derek dropshis bag into the nearest tent and they set themselves onthe narrow path leading to south. The rain stops, andtropical humidity sets in.

EXT. COSTA RICA RAINFOREST, SRO SECURITY PERIMETER BASE --AN HOUR LATER

At the end of the trail, a military man, MJR. KALLE

KOSKINNEN (41), approaches SARAH WEAVER and DEREK HORT andsnaps to, saluting.

MJR. KOSKINNENMajor Koskinnen. Welcome to thebase, sir!

DEREKAt ease, let's get right tobusiness. Preliminaries?

MJR. KOSKINNENAbi was right, the balls containpatterned sensors. We stayed clearto avoid activating them. Werewaiting for your assessment todefine our course of action.

DEREKLet's send the bugs. There may besome sort of opening for a releaseof whatever is inside.

  • 7/30/2019 The Connors Chronicles: F05E01 - Discovery

    13/51

    13.

DEREK (CONT'D)I think the other balls are a backup, rather than some sort ofserial or parallel hook up...Let's do them systematically, oneby one.

Mjr. Koskinnen prompts Derek and Sarah to enter the stagingtent. SGT. MIHOKO OCHIHARA (31) sits behind a desk andmakes some notes.

MJR. KOSKINNENThis is Sgt. Ochihara. She is ourbug lady.

MJR. KOSKINNEN (CONT'D)Mihoko, send the profilers.

SARAHWait! make them avoid the sensors,

    for now.

    SGT. OCHIHARAYes, ma'am.

Sgt. Ochihara goes through menus to select the programmingand then takes a large black box and prompts everyone outinto the open. They all walk about 50 meters to get closerto the nearest stone ball. Sgt. Ochihara opens the lid andthe bugs pour out, setting on a course to bridge the 200meter distance between the box and the first ball.

    SGT. OCHIHARA (CONT'D)

Give them 15 minutes to get there. No point standing here. They haveto do the assessment and return,we can't use remote signaling. Itshould take 45 minutes altogetherand it's a breakfast time anyway.Lets wait at our cantina.

Sgt. Ochihara then LOOKS AT Derek and Sarah with anexpression of uncertainty in her face.

SARAHIt's OK, we'd like to come along.

INT. PROVISIONAL GOVERNMENT SAVANNAH'S OFFICE -- DAY

    SUPERIMPOSE: "2034 - L.A."

CATHERINE and SAVANNAH WEAVERS sit in Savannah's office.Very frugal furnishing. Savannah is behind a desk with lotsof paper stacks. Catherine sits opposite to her.

  • 7/30/2019 The Connors Chronicles: F05E01 - Discovery

    14/51

    14.

SAVANNAHMom, I am not very keen to do that.

CATHERINEI can keep him on a short leash, you know.

SAVANNAHBut why you are so adamant aboutneeding him?

CATHERINEHe's got excellent organizationalskills, and has contacts. For myown project, rebuilding Zeira,he's my best choice, at least fornow.

SAVANNAHOK, you do have a point. I'll

recall the security. But beware,he's a snake!

    CATHERINE(smiling with a confidentexpression)

And I'm a snake charmer. Perhapshe'll redeem himself, I'd like togive him that opportunity.

SAVANNAHI hope this won't bite us back atsome point.

By the way, the old phone exchangehas been restored. We can have youwired in two, three days.

CATHERINEVery good news indeed! Better thanmy feeble stabs at telepathy!

SAVANNAHMom, what on earth are you talkingabout?

    CATHERINE(with a hint of surprise)

    I was-- never mind.

EXT. COSTA RICA RAINFOREST, SRO SECURITY BASE -- DAY

SUPERIMPOSE: "2231 - Costa Rica - Security Base"

SARAH WEAVER, DEREK HORT, MJR. KOSKINNEN, SGT. OCHIHARA,are reviewing the bug analysis, in the staging "bug" tent.

  • 7/30/2019 The Connors Chronicles: F05E01 - Discovery

    15/51

    15.

SGT. OCHIHARAOK, there is an opening on top, 3and a half milimeters diameter. The sensor sets run horizontallyalong the circumference, three perset, forming equilateral triangles10 cm in length, with sets 40

centimeters apart. See the blankspots? They are sensors the bugsavoided.

SARAHDo we have something small enoughto slip through the opening?

SGT. OCHIHARAYes, WEASEL SCOUTS. Do you want tosend a couple?

    SARAH LOOKS AT Derek.

DEREKLet me think-- The weasels-- whatis their composition?

SGT. OCHIHARATotally organic, sir. Safe. Theydo a BEE DANCE on return, tocommunicate their results. Theyare very specific in theirlanguage.

    DEREK

OK, let them in, I trust theywon't trigger an unwanted response.

SGT. OCHIHARAWe can take about 6 hours breakwhile the weasels do their job.

DEREKMe and Sarah may as well get backto the camp to do some planningand data entries.

    SGT. OCHIHARAI--

    DEREKWhat is it?

  • 7/30/2019 The Connors Chronicles: F05E01 - Discovery

    16/51

    16.

SGT. OCHIHARAI'd feel more comfortable if youtwo stayed here. In the casesomething unexpected happened.

    DEREKWell, our presence here likely

wouldnt make a difference ifsomething triggers a release. Iveno idea what may be inside, if itdiffers from the first site. Idont think youll need us here.

    SGT. OCHIHARA NODS hesitantly.

DEREK (CONT'D)You trust you bugs, do you?

    SGT. OCHIHARA(nods resolutely)

    Yes.

DEREKAnd I trust you, that you knowthem well.

SGT. OCHIHARA SEEMS a bit less worried.

DEREK (CONT'D)Can you send the profilers to thetwo other stones, so we have allthe basic data on the whole set?

SGT. OCHIHARAYes sir, a good idea, will do thatright away.

DEREKThank you. We'll be back in 5hours.

Derek and Sarah leave the tent and disappear along thejungle path, in the direction of Gordi Camp.

    END OF ACT TWO

  • 7/30/2019 The Connors Chronicles: F05E01 - Discovery

    17.

    ACT THREE

INT. COSTA RICA RAINFOREST, GORDI CAMP -- AFTERNOON

SUPERIMPOSE: "2231 - Costa Rica - Gordi Camp"

SARAH WEAVER and DEREK HORT enter the camp tent assigned tothem.

DEREKSarah, you do the brief while Isee if I can cross-correlate ourpreliminary info with anything. It's harder to find something ifyou don't know what you arelooking for.

    SARAHMom was excellent at

cross-correlations. Her insight...I still miss her so much after allthese years!

DEREKMe too. But you know, she had todo what she had to do. Wouldn't beher if she didn't.

SARAHI know. Sometimes it's hard tomeasure up.

DEREKThats not true. If you were inher shoes, you'd do much the same.

    SARAHI'm not so sure.

DEREKWell, trust me, I know you.

They are both quiet for a few seconds.

    SARAHSo, what do you think?

DEREKCant make a conclusion withoutknowing what is in the stones, ifthere is still anything in them.We can only guess what thetriggers may be. We have threeoptions, entomb, nuke orquarantine.

  • 7/30/2019 The Connors Chronicles: F05E01 - Discovery

    18/51

    18.

DEREK (CONT'D)Nuking it would make for atactically safe option, but thenwe don't learn much and thedownside is the extremeenvironmental damage attached tothat scenario. Entombing may make

it safe for a half a millennium, but then all bets are off due todegradation of the material.Quarantine gives us some chancefor recovering useful data.

    SARAHIt's risky, though.

DEREKYes, I know. But what if there issomething else out there? It maygive us a head start locating

other residuals using our twopatterns we have so far.

    SARAHAre you getting any hits?

DEREKNo, not yet, but I think Ill letit run overnight to see if thereare any matches.

They are both QUIET again for a few seconds.

SARAHHey, take a look at this!

Sarah turns on the projection and a map of the area POPSinto a view, a darker ellipse covering the area surroundingthe stones.

    DEREKWhat's that shadow?

    SARAHRadio. Nothing's getting throughfrom outside.

DEREKYes, that's it! It's the trigger!I'd bet that the two other stoneshave different arrangements of thesensors to cover the most likelybandwidths.

  • 7/30/2019 The Connors Chronicles: F05E01 - Discovery

    19/51

    19.

SARAHBut it doesnt make much sense, what is the point of placing themin a radio shadow?

DEREKIt makes a perfect sense! If the

radio got activated within thearea, it would be a sure sign ofreturning technologicalcvilization. It is possible thatthere are other triggers thatmight function as a safety valve, with this being their primarydelimiter.

SARAHI wish these things had some sortof a consistent pattern. Theyreso... different!

SARAH (CONT'D)So, what we do? We need to getmore data on the other two andsort out their wavelengthspectrums.

DEREKAnd we quarantine. We need to keepa strict radio silence in thelocus and build containmentchambers around. We can triggerthem when were absolutely sure

that theres no possibility of arelease outside our containment.

SARAHOK, lets go back to Base, theyshould have results from the othertwo stones now, and maybe theirweasel report as well.

DEREKThis may as well take half anyear. I think we should pull inAlice and Leon.

    SARAHThink they would appreciate it?

DEREKYou kidding? Theyd fall all overthemselves with gratitude. A breakfrom routine will keep them fromshutting down with boredom!

  • 7/30/2019 The Connors Chronicles: F05E01 - Discovery

    20/51

    20.

SARAHYou sound too much excited. Ithink youre enjoying this.

DEREKWell, I have mixed feelings. Butit is, after all, part of our JOB

DESCRIPTION and what we weretrained for and ready to do.

They close their electronics, exit the tent and enter againthe narrow path carved into the jungle, towards the SRObase.

INT. TEMPORARY ZEIRA OFFICE -- DAY

    MOSSIt's a cloning facility.

    CATHERINECloning what?

    MOSSHumans.

Catherine PONDERS the implications for a few seconds.

    CATHERINE(as if talking to herself)

It was not in the core, I wonderwhat else we'd find.

    MOSSPardon me?

Catherine does not respond and then places on the desk arecorder.

CATHERINEWe need to clear up some aspectsof our mutual relationship.

    MOSSHow so?

CATHERINEMay I bring to your attention, the

cause of your being under tightsurveillance for so long?

Moss is QUIET, with a sour look.

CATHERINE (CONT'D)Do I piss you off, Mr. Moss?

MOSSOh! That... That's just a phrase, manspeak. Doesnt really mean muchliterally. I like you, but notall that much. Youre distant, a

client, and Ive still got my crewto run.

CATHERINEInteresting. Very well, I don'tknow you that well and suggestthat you not attempt to pull woolover my eyes... You wanted tokill Mr. Fergano for revealingyour words.

    MOSSOnly Fergano, me--and you.

CATHERINEI want to stress the importance ofkeeping it that way. There won'tbe any leaks. The consequenceswon't be pleasant.

    MOSS(thinking for a few seconds)

I'm not sure why it needs to bekept under a lid, but if you haveyour reasons, no quarrel then.

CATHERINEI do. The route... Can I rely on

MOSSYou'll find it easy to follow.

    LES DANILO (O.S.)Who is it?

    CATHERINEHello, Moss sent me.

    LESCome on in.

The gate opens with a rusty SCREECH. Catherine drives to acarport. LES DANILO (a man in early 40's) waits for her andopens the door leading from the carport to the building.

    LES (CONT'D)(stretches out his hand)

    Hello. I am Les Danilo.

    CATHERINE(shakes Les' hand)

Catherine Weaver. Nice to meet you.

    LES(surprise is coloring hisvoice)

CATHERINE (CONT'D)Do you know what the codes mean?

LESTheyre just subject codes thatSkynet gave me.

CATHERINEI see. How old are the clones?

    LES

The apparent age or the lab age?

Catherine DOES NOT RESPOND, Les gets a clue.

LES (CONT'D)AY08, the female, is about 18biological, and almost 7 years labtime. JC11 is younger, 14 yearsbiological and over 5 years labtime.

CATHERINEYou started with a single cell foreach?

LESYes, the techs not really toocomplicated. Each original cellwas slightly modified to get adegree of variability bysimulating sexual replication, about 99.98% identical to theoriginals. The triggers are morecomplex. I had to go through quite

a few of specimens to make it work.

CATHERINEMay I see them up close?

LESWell, yes, Skynet is no more so Idon't have to worry about thesecurity protocol, right?

LESWell, no. It was really amonologue. But I imagined thatthey were conversing with me.

    CATHERINEThat's nice. How was their

LESYes. Warren sometimes did some...in situ debugging.

    CATHERINEMay I see it?

    LESNew employer, right? Well Skynet'sgone--

CATHERINEYes, I think it is an affirmativeat this point, on both counts.

Les opens the door at the other end of the lab and theyenter into another control room, with no window. The deskcontains a large monitor, and a piece of hardware that hasclamps for holding a data cartridge.

CATHERINE (CONT'D)Can you get one of the latestprograms and bring it here? I'll

    sort out how this works.

    LESYes. Back in a minute.

Les leaves. Catherine checks the desk and looks carefullyat the surface. She FLIPS vision modes until she sees atrace on the desk. She focuses and initiates a patternfractal recognition and a word appears: PINKGOO. Satisfied, she turns the switch on. A login prompt appears and shetypes the password on a virtual keyboard that is PROJECTEDon the desk,. The system logs her in, asking for a datasource insertion. Les returns.

LESTight. Nobody but me and Warren.

    CATHERINEWhere I'd find Warren?

    LESAt Skynet headquarters, R&D lab.

CATHERINEI see. He may be staying there fora while.

LES LOOKS AT Catherine with an expression ofincomprehension, but it quickly changes as he realizes thatthe Warren's status may be permanent.

CAMERONYou underestimate the capacity ofwolves to pass down information.

JOHNGreat! So now were an ER foranimals!

CAMERONI just imagined you in a whitecoat, peeking over a halfdoor andcalling: 'Next squirrel'!

    JOHN(laughing loudly)

You crack me up, Cameron Connor!

CAMERONOK, now serious, we have to fixhim.

    What if he has rabies?

JOHNWe have six emergency shots, nevertouched them, and Im alreadyinoculated, I'd say we use one onhim. Were short on localanesthetics, and anti-toxin, but Ithink were good to go for now. Wehave to go down eventually to getmore, but were alright for a yearor more yet.

John and Cameron reach their log house. The wolf is aheadof them, on his side looking at them and waiting. He is inapparent pain, but aside from his expression, he is quiet.

JOHN (CONT'D)Cameron, give me you pack. I'llget it inside and get a plasticsheet to cover the table. You grabhim gently as you can and put himon the table. Give me half aminute.

John drags Cameron's heavy backpack inside, and sets bothpacks in the kitchen area to his left. Their large livingroom has a side door leading to a carport, on the oppositeside of the kitchen area. There are four other doors, fromthe left--the bathroom, also connected with the bedroomwhich was the next door, and then two adjacent doors closefor two more small rooms, one called a 'study' and anotherserving as a closet.

Behind the carport, there is a shed facing the other wayand along the whole back clearing and about 10 meters tothe edge of clearing, there is a small garden.

John entered the closet and cuts off a large piece ofplastic sheeting from a roll hanging on the wall, andreturns to the living room and places it over the table in

the center of the room. He moves a chair out of the way.

    JOHN (CONT'D)Cameron, ready now!

Cameron brings in the wolf, who has locked his jaw aroundher wrist, but is otherwise constrained in her arms.Cameron sets him down on the table and holds him still.

    JOHN (CONT'D)He did bite you!

    CAMERON

No, he was very gentle, trying toget me a gauge on his pain.

JOHNOK, Ill get the anesthetic, andrabies shot. Use this towel toclean that break some so we seehow bad it is.

John goes back to the closet, getting materials andscissors, tossing the scissors to Cameron. She cleans offsome blood and calls to John.

CAMERONJohn, pretty bad, dislocated. We'll have to do stitches, bring aneedle and thread too!

The wolf grows antsy with the pain. Cameron puts her handon his head, and pets him gently.

    CAMERON (CONT'D)Quiet now, relax.

The wolf, as if understanding her, slightly relaxes andrepositions himself to give Cameron better access to theinjury. Cameron is trimming fur from the injured area, tillsatisfied that she has enough cleared away. John brings abowl with syringes and thread already threaded through theneedle.

CAMERON (CONT'D)John, do the anesthesic. And thenthe anti-toxin and rabies shot.

John injects anesthetic twice and then after waitinganother 30 seconds, applies two more shots. The wolfremains somewhat calm.

CAMERON (CONT'D)John, get me two half inch sticks, about 12 inches long from the

carport... break those unusedtomato stakes. I'll go on and tryto reposition the bones.

Cameron pulls the wolf's lower leg towards her by one handwhile firmly holding the humerus and torques it intoposition. The wolf RELEASES A BLOODCURLING HOWL, but oncethe bones snap back into position, he is once again QUIET.John brings the stakes. Cameron stitches the open wound.Fifth stitch closes the wound entirely. Cameron looks atthe stakes and POINTS to John.

    CAMERON (CONT'D)

Drill holes here and here, so wecan fasten it securely. I'll padit with the towel.

Cameron takes another towel from a kitchen drawer, tearingit to strips. John brings back the drilled planks and asisal spool. Cameron positions the towel strips, places thestakes and quickly fastens them around the break. Cameronlifts the wolf from the table and sets him on his threegood legs, and gently WHACKS his rear.

CAMERON (CONT'D)You are done now, big wolf!

Wolf is looking at Cameron and then sits on his hind legs, not moving an inch.

CAMERON (CONT'D)What do you want, uh?

JOHNMaybe he's hungry. He didnt askfor directions.

John opens one of the hunting bags and pulls out a thickchunk of meat, going in front of the wolf to dangle it. Thewolf hops up on three legs, following John who is headedoutside.

Once out the door, John places the meat on a nearby stoneprotruding from the ground and backs off a few feet. Thewolf reaches the meat and quickly gobbles it up. Then hedrops to his healthy side, curling up on the ground, lifting his head towards John before letting it drop.

John pets wolf's head softly and then goes inside.

    CAMERONHow is he?

JOHNGoing to sleep in front. Let'sstack the meat in the freezer andcall it a day. Its been a longone.

    CAMERONYou go, I'll do it.

    JOHN

You want to keep a vigil, just incase?

CAMERONNo, I'll be with you in a bit.Ill hear if anything disturbs him.

John enters the bedroom and falls asleep almost the momenthe touches the bed.

INT. CONNORS' LOG HOUSE -- MORNING

JOHN wakes up with a ray of sunlight across his face, dust

particles glowing in the shaft of sunlight. Checks the bedbeside him and seeing it empty, he gets up. CAMERON isstanding at the window, looking out.

    JOHNMorning. How's our friend?

CAMERONMorning. He is fine, just wentaway. Now he is coming back.

    JOHNPotty trained.

John gives Cameron a quick peck on her cheek and then goesto the fridge and carves another piece from the deer rump.He then goes outside and finds the wolf already waiting atthe stone 'table'. He places the steak on it and then petsthe wolf again.

INT. ZEIRA FACILITY, OREGON -- DAY

LES is sitting in the clones room, talking. He has amicrophone attached to his T-shirt, the tank glass is toothick to allow sounds to be coherently heard inside. His

subjects have a small earphones plugged in.

LESSomething is bugging me about her.She is all nice, but I've neversaw her eat even a crumb. A fewtimes she drank water from abottle. I am not sure... I'venever seen them, but Warren oncesaid the K series cyborgs lookjust like humans. And probablyfunction pretty much the same, unless one gets really into aserious biology stuff. He alsosaid that the resistance cyborgswere amazing. Not only did theylook like humans, but they alsobehaved like humans. I wasn't surethat he didn't make it up andthought he was making it sound toogood to be true.

Les is QUIET for a few seconds.

LES (CONT'D)I think she is a K cyborg. Shelifts heavy stuff with ease. Shedoesn't eat. She says she goes tosleep, but I've never seen hersleeping, really. In her van, sheseemed to be sleeping, but when I

knocked on her window, she wasinstantly alert, not like me whenI wake up, disoriented for amoment.

Les takes a glass of water and drinks a few sips.

LES (CONT'D)I have to admit, she is extremelyattractive. I already feel like Iknow her. It's been what, fourweeks now since her first visit. We get along very well...

    Les PAUSES.

LES (CONT'D)I am just not sure about thecyborg stuff. Maybe I should tapthe brakes. I like her a lot. Butthe cyborg stuff makes me antsy.

    SOUND OF THE BUZZER.

LES (CONT'D)OK, here she is, I gotta go.

Les detaches the microphone, turns off the sound equipmentand goes to the control room, dims the tank room lights, puts the cartridge into a safe.

    LES (CONT'D)Yes? Mia?

MIAHi Les, back from L.A. with ashipment for you. Busy?

LESHey, not at the moment, I'll beright out.

Les runs out of the carport door and Mia is standing besidestacked up containers on the lift.

LESI'll be there, no worries, donewith my dayjob stuff by 2PM.

    MIA(smiling ear to ear)

    OK, see you at three!

Mia gets into her van, and heads off to her cabin.

Les carts the food containers to his kitchen. Sees an extrabox. Les opens his assignment box, the cartridge, a workplan, but sees no mention of the other box.

    LESPerhaps something from Weaver.

Les opens it and pulls out a carton that looks like an oldtime shoe box. He lifts the lid and looks stunned by thecontent. Hiking boots, real leather. He checks the boxagain, not willing to put it down.

    CLOSE UP: 2009

The fresh smell of lanolin meant someone recently made surethey were like new, flexible and insulated from theelements.

Les pulls both boots from the box to try them on and then

notices a little folded card falling to the floor. He liftsand opens it. "From Mia. with love." The sheerimprobability of it all leaves Les in a state of confusion.

    LES (CONT'D)(muttering under his breath)

How did she get them?--So what if she is K series!

Les checks his watch, for time to do the assignments beforeheading off to Mia's cabin.
