Second Sunday of Ordinary Time Year C 17th January 2016

Dear friends,

Here in the church we are back to green vestments which we haven’t seen since the middle of November. The Christmas tree is gone, the Christmas decorations and posters have all been taken down and we are back to what is called Ordinary Time. Ordinary Time is where we live most of our lives – the humdrum routine of getting up in the morning, going to work, looking after our homes and our families and being there for each other. It should not be dismissed as unimportant. It is the “Bread and Butter” of life and makes us the people we are. It tests our generosity, our stamina and our goodness. It is in ordinary time and mostly in ordinary ways that we are called to be Christ’s followers. At the end of each Mass he sends us out with a mission to love and evangelise by our love. That is the purpose of our life and at the end of the journey he will want to know how we did. Were we faithful? Someone said it is doing ordinary things ex-traordinarily well that makes us good people; that makes saints of us. So I wish you a blest and fruitful “ordinary” time.

The Crib is still in place and we will keep it there till 2nd February which is the feast of the presentation in the temple – when Jesus was taken by Mary and Joseph to be presented to God as their first-born. If you haven’t visited it yet do take a look and say a prayer in that place – St Joseph’s chapel to the left of the sanctuary. The donations being made at the Crib are for the Westminster Children’s Charity which helps families in need.

We have started the New Year with great enthusiasm. People are getting stuck in and seem energised for the tasks they have taken on in the parish. By the time you read this we will have had Judy’s THANK YOU party and from all the signs as I write this, it will have been a great success. So thank you to all who are making that happen.

Gigi the Chair of our Parish Pastoral Council has started on a great project with the children – to do a theatrical presenta-tion of the Ten Commandments, through drama, song and dance which will be staged at the end of April. Over 70 families are taking part in this. It is an ambitious project so let’s all get behind her to make it a huge success.

The Eagles Group has likewise got off to a great start. This group was set up 4 years ago for children from 8 to 15 years old and takes place in the Parish Hall once a month on a Sunday after the Family Mass from 12.00pm to 1.45pm. From last September, the format changed in order to offer a better service to children with such a big difference in age. Now they start with a quick snack at 12.00pm; at 12.15 they all go to the White Room for a welcome, a short prayer and a talk, al-ways offered by an external person and connected with the kids’ practical life. After the talk there is a short time for ques-tions and answers and then around 12.40pm the Social Activity time starts: each child can decide which activity he wants to take part in and can change between them as many times he wants. The activities are: football, volleyball, table tennis, art & craft, chess and others. In each session there is always a tournament organised by the coordinators for one of the activities. Thank you to everyone for what you do. Have a blest week Yours Devotedly
