Love Does Not Compound Guilt
If you ever tour Washington, D.C., be sure to go to all the traditional sites like the White House, the Smithsonian, and the halls of Congress, and don't miss the Lincoln Memorial. There is something about standing in the Lincoln Memorial and reading the Gettysburg Address and the Second Inaugural Address which gives you goose bumps. One line in the Second Inaugural reminds you what a caring and compassionate man Lincoln was. He was speaking about the coming end of the Civil War and he said: "With malice toward none; with charity for all."
Lincoln put this idea into practice on the day that news arrived in Washington that the war was over. A crowd gathered at the White House and a military band played some festive music. Lincoln stood on the balcony of the White House and spoke. Instead of lashing out against the South, he spoke of the horrors of war. He spoke of families getting back together. He spoke of a time of peace. Then he said, "In a few moments, I want the band to play, and I'm going to tell them what I want them to play." Of course, the band started getting ready to play the "Battle Hymn of The Republic." This had been the theme song of the North throughout the Civil War. But Lincoln crossed them up. He stood there and said, "The band will now play the theme song of the people we have called our enemy. They are not our enemies anymore! We are one people again. I want the band to play 'Dixie.'"
Historians say there was a long, awkward pause. The band didn't have the music to “Dixie,” but they finally got it together and did play “Dixie." Lincoln knew that the South was not only hurting because of the horrors of the war, but also because of the shame which accompanies defeat. Lincoln was sending a clear signal to the South. Lincoln was telling everyone that there would be no punishment upon the South. Lincoln was saying that the South would be treated with love and compassion.

¡Caminado con Jesús!
Pensando en voz alta…….
El domingo de pascua ya fue hace dos semanas, pero el tiem-po pascual se prolonga por cincuenta días, lo cual nos ofrece un periodo extendido para poder celebrar a cabalidad durante esta cincuentena pascual todas las maneras en que Dios le trae una vida nueva al mundo.
Así como germinan los árboles y brotan las flores, así como los días se alargan y el tiempo se vuelve cálido, así nosotros nos regocijamos en la gloria de la vida nueva que surge a nuestro alrededor. Como lo dice la antífona de entrada: “Aclama a Di-os, tierra entera”

El Evangelio nos dice que un número de los discípulos vol-vieron a su antigua profesión de la pesca.
Vale destacar que salen de noche y que no pescan nada. Ante-riormente en el Evangelio de Juan, Jesús le dice a los discípu-los: “Llega la noche y ya nadie puede trabajar” mientras este en el mundo, yo soy la luz del mundo”
En la alborada de esa mañana ellos no se dieron cuenta de que la “Luz del mundo” estaba esperando junto a la orilla.
Solo llegaron a reconocerlo cuando vieron que fue por él que pescaron una cantidad de peces más de la que podían recoger.
Anteriormente en el Evangelio de Juan, Jesús se describe a si mimo como el Buen Pastor, dispuesto a dar su vida por sus ovejas. Aquí en el último capítulo de este Evangelio, Jesús le dice a Pedro que ahora será él, Pedro, quien apacentará el re-baño de Jesús.
Pedro tendrá que atender y alimentar a sus ovejas. Y también, como Jesús, Pedro tendrá que sacrificar su vida por sus ovejas.
Los quiero, reciban mi bendición y no se les olvide orar por mí.
