One of the Outreach Ministries offered by our First Christian Church family is “The Chalice Fund”. This is a once-a-year opportunity to make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate in our community. This is one of the many ways we, the church, represent Christ. If you have been part of this ministry in the past, you know what it feels like to see the look of gratitude in the eyes of an entire household when we deliver their gifts. You also know how humbling it is for our own hearts as we live out what it means to be the “Body of Christ”. If you have not been a part of “The Chalice Fund” ministry, we encourage you to prayerfully consider one, or all of the options listed below.
ADOPTION: Sunday November 11th -There will be a tree adorned with ornaments to select in the Parlor. The organizations that we will be assisting this year will be Family Promise and Buckner Family Pathways. In an effort to provide for as many as possible, we have agreed to spend approximately $100.00 per child. This should enable each child to receive an outfit, coat, shoes and a small toy. Should you need to be reimbursed or need a record for tax purposes, return your receipts to Dorothy in the church office.
Each ornament will have the age and gender of the child on it. After selecting an ornament, you will bring it
to a chalice fund coordinator in the Parlor, in order to receive the information you will need to shop for your selected child/family. This year we will have families together on a single ornament to allow them to be adopted as one group.
GIFTS SHOULD BE RETURNED TO THE CHURCH BY DECEMBER 1ST.
DELIVERY: Saturday December 8th -Anyone wishing to help deliver gifts should meet in the Bedford room at 9:00 AM.
DONATION: The money for this Outreach Ministry is collected as a special donation. Please mark your check
“The Chalice Fund”. The money donated is used for reimbursements as well as for the $100.00 Walmart Gift Cards given to the parent or guardian of each family. Families with four or more children will receive a $200.00 gift card. This will allow the parent or guardian to buy food or other items they may need during the holidays.
PRAYER: Please pray that this Outreach Ministry will make a difference in the lives of those we touch, and that
through this ministry we can be a living example of the Jesus we worship and celebrate at this time of the year.
Thank you so much for considering participating in this ministry. “The Chalice Fund” Coordinators

It is rally time. This weekend we are taking 18 youth and adults to Circle Six for fun and
spiritual growth. With hard work and incredible support from the church, our student
ministry is growing! We are finding ways to connect with new youth in Sunday school and
worship, while growing our Sunday night programming. Thanks to your prayer support,
willingness to serve, overall vision, and financial support, the work is paying off. Good job
church! Please be in prayer for our students and adults attending rally.

Thanksgiving is quickly approaching. It’s a time to give thanks and celebrate God’s goodness with family and friends. And eat………………….maybe too much!
Family recipes passed down through the generations help us create all those delicious foods we enjoy at this time of year, but they also tempt us to lose our self-control. And, unfortunately, the guilt we may experience from our over-indulgences won’t taste as
sweet as our grandmother’s homemade chocolate meringue pie. But the good news is there are sweet things we can taste any time of the year, and even over-indulge in, without guilt or tight fitting clothes!
God has given us a recipe for guilt free, joy filled living, but it’s not a recipe for the food we should put in our stomachs – it’s for the thoughts we can put in our minds. Found in Philippians 4, “God’s Goodness Pie” recipe might read like this:
Ingredients: beauty, truth, goodness, purity, honor, praise, virtue
Directions:
As you experience your everyday life, gather your ingredients – things that are beautiful, pure, praise-worthy, honorable, good, virtuous, and true.
Allow each one to fill your mind with the beauty and truth of God’s goodness and love.
Taste and see that the Lord is good as you savor the sweet taste of the praise that forms on your lips in gratitude to God for all the beauty, love, and goodness He brings into your life!
God knows we struggle with self-control and guilt with food and in many other areas of our lives. All too often we make the issue the focus instead of God. So this year, instead of focusing on the food we eat (or over eat) during the holidays, let’s focus on tasting His goodness. Because His greatest desire is that we experience His love, rest in His peace, and be filled with His joy.
And there’s no pie recipe sweeter tasting than that!
In loving partnership,
Ponderings… Rev. Paula Brooks Associate Minister
