Nursery and Reception Recently Oak Nursery have been busy bees singing songs, thinking about creatures and objects from stories, counting and so much more it’s hard to put your finger on it. Linked to Bonfire Night, the children have been making firework models using lots of different materi-als such as coloured felt, transparent paper and card. The children we interviewed told us that in their leisure they enjoy playing with sand and water.

R3 have been learning about measurement for their maths topic and have been recently reading ‘The Train Ride’ as their class story and are currently learning about ‘Planes, Trains and Automobiles’.

Year 1 This term year one have been working really hard, they have progressed dramatically from where they were at the start. Many exciting events have taken place such as assem-blies and fun dress-up days like when they re-created a Victorian school. We spoke to Isla and Isaac in 1LG to find out what they have enjoyed so far this year: “Our favourite thing in Year One so far have been maths and spelling as well as rehearsing for our Christmas play Whoops a-daisy Angel.” Recently in Year One they have been creating new Christ-mas decorations to place around the classroom. Their Big Question last half term was about the body however this half term was all about pirates! Rrrrrr!

A new thing to them, is PPA which they didn’t do last year in reception. During this length of time they do three activities, which are ICT, music and PE, which they enjoy very much.

Jess and Maya

Year 2 Year 2 went on a trip to the People’s History Museum and saw lots of ancient carpets with different designs. Their Big Question topic is ‘What puts Chorlton on the map?’ Following their visit to the Museum, they made banners about Chorlton. The 2CC banner shows a Metro Link to represent the trams in Chorlton. The 2HH banner shows acorns and grass to show the nature in Chorl-ton and Chorlton Park Primary School.

Abdulbasit

Year 3 In Year Three they learn a lot of Big Questions in class and they also learn different meth-ods in maths in science they experiment a lot.

They go on a lot of trips in Year 3 that are educational. Their Big Question next half-term is “How Green Can You Go?” The Big Question they are doing later in Year 3 are Romans. In Year 3 they get the experience to play a Russian instrument called the balalaika, which has three strings and is really easy to play. Miss Mayo, who teaches balalaika, is very ex-perienced.

In English, they are creating mythical stories with punctuation, paragraphs and good handwriting also they are focusing on the main plot of the myth.

There will be an Eco Day on 23rd May and they will be going on a class trip to visit a recy-cling plant!

Book review Like a book of adventure? A book of daring, heroes and heroines? Then the Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan is the right one for you!

The first book in the series is about a teenager named Percy Jackson and a confusing predicament: a mysteri-ous thief has stolen the legendary god Zeus’s lightning bolt! He blames Percy Jackson and threatens to de-stroy all of humanity if it is not returned within 5 weeks! He also comes across a mythical beast named a hydra!

Percy Jackson uses his arsenal to help him through his adventure which takes him through hell and back! He comes loaded with a pen that turns into a celestial bronze sword named Riptide. He also has powers to sum-mon and draw out strength from water!

If you are interested in this book, we have the whole series in our school library and it’s open every day after school, so don’t delay!

Chorlton Book Awards On 26th November a group of lucky Year 4 and Year 5 children were

invited to Chorlton High School to take part in the Chorlton Children’s

Book Awards Ceremony. This was part of the Chorlton Book Festival

which takes place every autumn. Seven brilliant new books had been

shortlisted by pupils from Chorlton High School and children from Chorlton Park were asked to vote for their

favourite read. The winner this year was The Astounding Broccoli Boy by Frank Cottrell Boyce, a hilarious story

about Rory, a boy who wants to become a super hero but suddenly and inexplicably turns green. We highly

recommend it, a great Christmas present idea!

Year 4 We visited our previous year group, which was year 4 and asked some well-behaved influ-ences about their time in Year 4 and what they think about the new curriculum. Majed reported that Year 4 was “packed with excitement”. They also went on a breezy river trip, along the Mersey and tested how the orange would fall as well as filling their bright minds with new river words. Egyptian Day was another fun activity they did, we saw lots of lovely costumes and the girls were wearing beautiful Egyptian makeup and looked genuinely Egyptian! The Egyptian men looked so charming and were very kind to the ladies. We real-ly miss Year 4.

Year 5 The highlight of year 5 so far has definitely been the trip. They had so much fun at Quarry Bank Mill, in Styal, they even had the experience of going back in time .The time machine (disguised as a coach) took them back to Victorian times where they were shown the Ap-prentice House, where they were to work as an apprentice. The people of the Apprentice House knew how to deal with trouble makers in class … but not the ill! In fact, Year 5 were shown Victorian doctors’ methods of surgery, treatment and medicine, and some of them were very unhygienic and painful! The Year 5 visitors rated the trip 5 stars out of 5. Han-nah, a Year 5 pupil, said “It really explained what it was like to be a Victorian apprentice, and now I realize how lucky we are.” Lauren said, “It was amazing!” All of year 5 are now very knowledgeable about Victorians, and are looking forward to the next trip!

Year 6 You may think that Year 6 is the toughest, roughest year of the lot. However, there are so many great things to enjoy, fascinating things to learn and friends to be made. We’re just starting the school year yet Year 6 have already experienced Ghyll Head (a great time to look forward and back to), had a fantastic Christmas Assembly in partnership with Year 5 and watched 6MS perform their tribe assembly! I just had to get into the action, and found out that Zabina and Amenah love to be the oldest in the school, enjoy English and Art and look forward to the end of year production. They are excited about meeting new people in High School. I spoke to Mr Woods, who said that ‘Year 6 will be a challenge for the teach-ers and the children, but so far the children have done well and coped with the higher ex-pectations in Year 6 nicely.’ I also spoke to Mr Lamb who told me that ‘being a Year 6 teacher is fun and the children all have happy smiles on their faces every day.’

Sport is a big part of our school and many children in this school enjoy sport. Netball is just one of them.

The netball team at the moment is trying to raise money for kits. We find this a bit unfair as the football team has kits. I decid-ed that I just had to find out more by inter-viewing a few members of the team. They love being part of the team because it is fun and a great team sport as well as being good for everyone. They also said that having kits would make the team feel more unified, professional and would help repre-sent the school which may even encourage them to play better. I also asked Miss O’Neill (the netball coach) a few questions. She thinks that having kits would influence the team and help them to give that extra push to win it for our school. When Miss O’Neill started the team, she hoped it

would one day be a proper unified team with kits; now our team has decided it is the perfect opportunity to raise money for our kits as the summer season will be in a few months and this is when most our games take place. In order to raise money, we hope to do various different fundraisers like cake sales, sponsored runs, netball shootouts, sponsored silence and even second hand toy sales.

We hope that you will support and encour-age us to buy our kits.

Stretford Swimming Club is a brilliant place to learn how to swim and this column is about why so many people at Chorlton Park are part of it.

Stretford Swimming Club is a fun and enjoy-able place to swim: not only is it a swimming pool but it has lots of other sports facilities like dance, yoga, judo and acrobatics. Peo-ple such as Iris say “I love Stretford swim-ming baths because it has a wide variety of levels in swimming and you can join at any age, the teachers are friendly and supportive and after you’ve had a swim you can enjoy some lovely food and drinks.”

Conor and Olivia commented “The instruc-tors help you if you need help, and we like the waiting area the café is nice you can eat

the before you swim you can have cheese toastie and other lovely food.”

All in all, we all love Stretford swimming club and everyone recommends it. So if anyone wants to do swimming, Stretford is the place for you!

On Wednesday 25th November the Year 6 football team went to a tour-nament at William Hulme Grammar School. They played 5 games against St. John’s, Brookburn and three more teams. They played really well be-cause they won 3 games and lost 2. The children who were on the foot-ball team were Daniel, Zander, Alex, Jovan, Louie, Shauyb, Sonny, Yasin, Callum T, Jake W, Riyad, Harvey.

They also played another football game on Friday 4th December against St. John’s. They lost 5-2 but played really brilliantly. Steve said “They played well and it was close game.” Jovan said “We played really well and we didn’t deserve to lose.” Daniel said “We did deserve a win but they played really well.”

On Monday 7th December they will against Heald Place, we hope they win.
