    To provide further training for an individual topractise as a clinician and clinical scientist withinthe NHS

    an audiological field)

    Demonstration of technical competence

    Part 1: Continuous Training

    Part 1B Development of clinical and communication skills

    Development of clinical expertise and management of wholecase

    Periodic appraisals by senior staff

    Periodic external training assessments (ETA)

    Final reports by supervisor & external assessor visiting you inown department

    Where should you be at Should have started to have 1B assessments.

    Typically will have scores of 1,2,3s, particularly in the morecomplex clinical areas

    Part 2: Practical Examination Need to put in request to sit exams 4 months in

    advance

    Can put in request before final ETA

    Any exam date given is provisional

    Supervisor and external assessor agree trainee isready to sit practical exams and exams can go ahead

    All sections (DAV, AR, PA) are taken together

    Usually in own department

    Two examiners over two days Resit failed sections only

    3 attempts at passing each section

    1 child 30 - 36 months 45 mins

    1 dizzy patient 3 hours

    1 adult rehabilitation 90 mins

    2 written reports (1 paediatric, 1 dizzy)

    Part 3: Written Exams

    Must have been registered for min. 3 months

    Register intention to do by 1stJune

    Around July time, 4 to 5 weeks to complete

    No more than 2,000 words per question Section Aphysical measurement (1/1)

    Section Bscenario questions (2/3)

    Each section must be passed

    Can resit failed sections the following year or modelanswer completed with higher pass mark

    Tips for successful CAC

    training Be proactive and ask questions

    Take log book with you to all clinics

    Keep records up to date

    Ask questions about clinical practice on secondments andyour own department

    Use secondments to have 1B assessments carried out

    Think ahead for planning practical exams

    Discuss concerns with supervisor or regional tutor Keep in touch with regional tutor

    Attend journal clubs and meetings organised by regionaltutor
