IT'S A MARDI GRAS CELEBRATION
What is Mardi Gras? "Mardi Gras" is French for "Fat
Tuesday", the day before Ash Wednesday and the end of
the Carnival season. Basically it's one gigantic party before
the somber season of Lent. Most people know it through
the gigantic parades and loud parties in the heart of the
French Quarter of New Orleans. Liquor flows freely and
beads are thrown by the handful. Here in Tucson we will
create our own style of Mardi Gras Party complete with the
music of The River Road Ramblers. Put on your mask, enjoy
a hurricane and beignet (pastry served during Mardi Gras)
and join us for the best party in Tucson. It will take place
on Tuesday, February 25 at 6pm in the Lobby.

LIVING WELL
Tips for Healthy Aging
Stay activeStay active: Regular exercise is one of
the greatest keys to physical and mental
well being. Living an active life will help
you stay fit enough to maintain your
independence.
Eat healthy foodsEat healthy foods: Eat nutrient-dense
foods like fruits, vegetables and whole-
grain foods. Avoid sweet, salty and
highly processed foods.
Cultivate your relationships:Cultivate your relationships: Maintain
communication with your family and
friends. Schedule regular time to meet
with friends and family. Stay engaged
with others who share a common
interest.
Get enough sleepGet enough sleep: Humans can go longer
without food than without sleep. We
need just as much sleep as younger
adults – seven to nine hours per night.
Lack of sleep can cause irritability,
increased fall risk and memory
problems. Establish a regular bedtime
routine. Keep your bedroom dark and
noise-free— avoid watching television or
using electronic devices while in bed.
Limit caffeine late in the day.
Practice prevention:Practice prevention: To prevent illness,
get a yearly flu vaccine and wash your
hands after using the restroom and
before handling food. To prevent
falls wear appropriate footwear, get
your vision checked, take vitamin D and
calcium. Also include some form of
exercise in your daily routines.

The foundation of Watermark University (WU) is to provide meaningful opportunities to learn, teach and grow,
resulting in a life of overall well-being. Research shows that learning and keeping our mind active and sharp
supports healthy aging.
At Watermark Retirement Communities we are committed to encouraging our residents and associates to lead
balanced lives, full of meaning and purpose, grounded in self-awareness and infused with curiosity, our
Watermark University courses help achieve this goal. By focusing on the Seven Dimensions of Well-being:
