ANNUAL SWEATER EXHIBIT
For over 25 years now, The Fountains Knitters
and Crocheters have been creating exquisite sweaters. The
fact is they have made over 10,000 sweaters. Each sweater
is a labor of love and a true expression of our
residents' commitment to making a difference in the lives
of underserved children living in Tucson. The sweaters will
be on exhibit in our lobby and first-floor main gallery for
the entire month of September. After the exhibit, they will
be distributed to school-age children throughout Tucson. A
reception to meet these talented women will be held in the
Lobby, Sunday, September 2, 2018 at 2:00 pm.

ACTIVE AGING WEEK
Initiated in 2003 by the International Council on Active Aging®
(ICAA), Active Aging Week takes place each year during the last
week of September. The weeklong campaign calls attention to,
and wholeheartedly celebrates, the positivity of aging today. It
showcases mature adults as fully participating and contributing
members of society. The objective of the annual health-
promotion event is to give as many older adults as possible the
means to experience wellness activities and exercise in a safe,
supportive environment. It also promotes the benefits of
healthier, more active

LIVING WELL
Tips for Healthy LivingTips for Healthy Living
Eating fruits and vegetables of different
colors gives your body a wide range of
valuable nutrients, including fiber,
folate, potassium and vitamins A and C.
Some examples are green spinach,
orange sweet potatoes, black beans,
yellow corn, purple plums, blueberries,
red watermelon and white onions. Have
them with meals or for a snack. Leave
the skins on your fruits and vegetables,
if possible.. Eat a diet rich in foods that
contain fiber such as dry beans, fruits,
vegetables and wholegrain foods.
Breakfast is a good time to enjoy foods
with fiber. Try unsweetened, whole
wheat or bran cereals and add fruits
like berries and bananas.
Reaching and maintaining a healthy
weight are important for your overall
health and wellbeing. The secret is to
balance your “energy in” and
“energy out”. “Energy in” is the calories
from foods and beverages you have
each day and “energy out” is the calories
you burn for basic body functions and
during physical activity. Your weight will
stay the same when the calories you eat
and drink equal the calories you burn.
On the other hand, you will gain weight
when the calories you eat and drink are
greater than those you burn. Physical
activity can help you reach and keep a
healthier weight, maintain your balance
and provide social interaction. We have
much to choose from daily for your
enjoyment!
The foundation of Watermark University (WU) is to provide meaningful opportunities to learn, teach and grow,
resulting in a life of overall well-being. Research shows that learning and keeping our mind active and sharp
supports healthy aging.
At Watermark Retirement Communities we are committed to encouraging our residents and associates to lead
balanced lives, full of meaning and purpose, grounded in self-awareness and infused with curiosity, our
Watermark University courses help achieve this goal. By focusing on the Seven Dimensions of Well-being:
Physical, Social, Intellectual, Spiritual, Emotional, Environmental, and Vocational we offer the opportunity to
achieve a balanced life and we see the benefits across the country in every class, every day.
