The Haitian Situation…

Spreading it

ResultsA lot of people kept

coming into our classroom and they kept bringing in supplies for our movement. We put a lot of signs all over the school, that says who is the lead. We put all of the supplies in big cardboard boxes.

How Did We Continue the Movement?

Brainstormed…

How could we best affect the families in Haiti? -send supplies?

-send money $$?

-raise awareness in others and get them involved in the movement?

Spreading the Word

• Created fliers and handed them out to our neighbors and friends

• Took the fliers to events outside of school and passed them out

Non Profit Organizations in our Neighborhood

There are many non profit organizations in the Chandler, Gilbert, and Mesa area. There is one called Feed My Starving Children that took off all because of the Butterfly Effect. Our teacher was told about this place a few years ago, and now as a tradition, 5th

grade CATS goes twice a year as a class. Many of our classmates have even gone back with their friends and family, and the word has continued to spread.

What is Feed My Starving Children?

Feed My Starving Children is a non-profit organization committed to feeding starving children. The approach is simple: children and adults hand-pack meals specifically formulated for malnourished children, and they ship the meals to their distribution partners. FMSC meals have reached nearly 70 countries around the world in our history

History of FMSC

*In 1982, a Minnesota businessman observed starving children while visiting Honduras. (PROBLEM) *In early 1987 he came up with the idea for Feed My Starving Children (IDEA)*In 1993, they finalized a rice formula for malnourished children*In 1994, they had volunteer production underway*In 1994, the first shipment of meals was sent to Haiti (Word spread fast) *By 2010, there were 9 packing locations *In 2011, they doubled meals to Haiti due to disasters and earthquakes

FMSC Today (snapshot of growth)*Something that started so small*A Movement was created * In 1994, they created 400,000 meals… Now, they pack over 273 million meals a year*In 1994, they had around 2,409 volunteers… Today, they have more than 1 million
