Maths 1: Mental Arithmetic Mental maths is very important, why not focus on working calculations out in our heads or with just a few jottings Often we can use facts we already know to solve a question or can round and adjust numbers to make them much easier to work with. Read Maths 1 sheet to embark on this challenge! Here you will find a set of problem cards for you to work through. First, enjoy playing Daily Ten Maths Online. We would recommend having a go at level 5 or 6 doubling and halving. English 3 – reading, inference using evidence from the clip Today we are going to look at finding evidence. We need to make our point (P) and then explain our answer using evidence from the text (E). After, we must complete the last (E), which is to Explain why we think what think. We need to remember to PEE! Maths 3: Compare and Order Fractions (Part 2) Today our challenge is to complete part two where we will be focusing on the numerator (the top number in a fraction e.g 1/3 1 would = the numerator). Please see Maths Sheet 3 and complete questions 1 – 8. Again, remember to apply what you know. Use your multiplication skills to help your tackle these problems.

Mental Wellbeing: Today the theme is wellbeing and is all about keeping positive and feeling happy! We have put together a grid of different activities that you can do at home to promote feeling good. There are many activities for you to choose from; we are not expecting you do them all! Just pick a few that you like the look of. We hope you enjoy doing some of them. Please upload these to Seesaw as videos and photos. It would be wonderful if we could see you doing some of these tasks. See Mental Wellbeing sheet 3 for all of the activities.

English 4 – writing – complete a short dialogue between two characters Today you are going to write a short dialogue between the characters. We are going to write one between the young boy and his new friend who comes around to play with him in his bedroom. You job is to apply what you know about inverted speech and the rules of speech. Please see English Sheet 4 and a short WAGOLL below of what is expected. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2fR9HqilmKM – here is the clip again if you need it. “Shall we play a game together?” exclaimed the boy. She scanned the room, in awe of all his cool and interesting gadgets. “That would be wonderful!” she replied in a soft and gentle voice. She thought to herself for a moment and then headed towards the carpet while still look back at the small robot that had just be ‘fobbed’ off by the boy. Her eyes beady as she turned her head from her shoulders. “We should play chess, it is my favourite. My Nanny taught me to play. Can you play?” asked the boy. I hope this gives you an idea. Likewise, if you wish to pick another section to write a dialogue for, you may.

Maths 4: Finding a Fraction of an amount Still on the key theme of fractions, today we are going to focus on finding a fraction of an amount. It might be useful to head to this website first. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zjtg47h The website provides an explanation, give examples, shows a method and even provides a short video clip using and applying the bar model. You do not have to work these out using the bar model, it may just help you if you are unsure. It is a great visual representation. See Maths Sheet 4 where the questions have been divided into 1 and 2 chillies. Please do what you feel works best for you.

Science: Why not try one of our fun science experiments. There is a choice of 2. One is called ‘Water Fireworks and looks at density. The other is called ‘Invisible Extinguisher’ and this experiment looks at the gas called carbon dioxide and combustion reaction. To see these experiments, please go to Science Sheet 4. We hope you have fun, please upload photos of this to SeeSaw, and we would love to see.

English 5 – creativity ( design your own Playmate) To bring everything we have looked at together, we thought it would be lovely for you to design and create your own toy, playmate friend. You can have a robot too if you like or you can design what you would like to have if this could be anything. Maths 5: Maths today is all about problem solving. We have collected a few different maths investigations for you to have a go at. You do not need to complete all of them you can just pick one and try it. We have given a few, so that you have some different choices. We hope you enjoy exploring different possibilities and taking on challenges. See Maths Sheet 5 for the problems

Federation Activity

Can you believe that we have all been home schooling for over

14 weeks? What a long time! We are all super proud of the

resilience you have shown. Your efforts and hard work that you

have all put in are incredible! This has been a crazy time where

many of us have felt sad, lonely, worried and fed up! You have all

kept going with a smile on your faces. We have seen how you have helped and

supported people in our community and looked after each other. Many of you

have been in school in Key Worker bubbles so that your grown-ups can help keep

us safe. We wish we were able to reward each and every one of you in a

Celebration Assembly. We would have every single one of you standing up and

achieving every certificate we have from Star of the Week, Resilience and Active

Citizen. We hope the certificate below helps you know that we are thinking of you

and are so pleased you are part of our Bishopswood Family! From all the staff at

Bishopswood Schools, we send you HUGE rounds of applause and hugs.

Have a really wonderful and safe Summer and we will hopefully welcome all of

you back in September.

Science Sheet 4

Water Fireworks Materials:

Water Oil Food Colouring (Any colour of your choosing) 16 oz clear glass Another 16 oz clear glass A Fork

Instructions:

1. Fill the tall glass almost to the top with room-temperature water. 2. Pour 2 tablespoons of oil into the other glass. 3. Add 2 drops of food colouring to the glass with the oil. 4. Stir the oil into the food colouring using a fork. Stop once you break the food colouring into smaller drops. 5. Pour the oil and colouring mixture into the tall glass. 6. Now watch! The food colouring will slowly sink in the glass, with each droplet expanding outwards as it falls. Looks

like fireworks! Right?

How it Works: Food colouring dissolves in water, but not in oil. Therefore, when you pour in your food colouring/oil mixture the oil will float at the top of the water because it is less dense, and the food colouring will begin to dissolve once they sink through the oil and into the water.

Invisible Extinguisher

Materials:

Tall Drinking glass or 16 oz plastic cup

Short Drinking glass or 9 oz plastic cup

Tea Light

Matches or Lighter

Instructions:

1. Place tea lights in the short drinking glass 2. Using a long match or safety lighter, light the tea lights while leaving them in the glass 3. In the tall glass, pour 1/2 cup vinegar 4. Slowly sprinkle 1/2 tsp of baking soda into the tall glass containing the vinegar. You can dump it all in at once, but be

ready for a big eruption! 5. Let the reaction slow down until the foam has disappeared. 6. Slowly tilt the tall glass on its side over the tea light as if you were pouring the air over it. 7. If the flame doesn’t go out on your first try, pour another scoop of baking soda into the vinegar and repeat steps 5 & 6

How It Works:

The baking soda/vinegar reaction results in a gas called Carbon Dioxide (CO2). CO2 is denser than normal air, which means that it will sink! Because CO2 sinks, it stays in the cup instead of floating away like a normal mix of air would. This means you have a cup full of CO2!

The candle burns thanks to a combustion reaction that requires Oxygen (O2), something we find in abundance in the air around us. When you pour your cup of CO2 into the cup containing the candle, the CO2 sinks to the bottom of the cup and surrounds the candle. This displaces (or pushes up) all the normally mixed air, along with all that O2 the fire needs to burn. In addition, Voila! Your candle is extinguished

This experiment should be

completed with an adult at

home.

Why not pick one of the wellbeing tasks below. Please, please share pictures

Create a compliments tree, find some twigs and put them in a washed out tin. Cut out some paper leaf shapes, write a nice compliment for each person in your home and hang them on the tree – get everyone to add their Compliments. We would love to see your finished tree!
