OUR JUDGES

Dogs - Anne Wilding (Bendale)I was delighted to have been selected by the membership to judge dogs at the Bearded Collie Club Championship show this year. This show holds a special place in my heart as it was the very first dog show I ever attended. I really went just to see a lot of Beardies as when I purchased my Beardie, Ben, in 1975, I had only seen his dam and her puppies. I had spent an extra £5.00 for Ben as he was considered to be of show quality and I thought that extra £5.00 would mean I had a better dog. To cut a long story short I was bitten by the show bug and have since spent thousands of pounds travelling the country and entering shows. It has been well worth the expenditure for in return I have made many friends both here and overseas and seen some wonderful Beardies whilst judging around the world.

I first awarded CCs in 1987 and had the honour of judging Dogs at Crufts in 2000. I also fulfilled a dream when Leo, Ch Bendale Special Times JW, was awarded BOB at Crufts in 2009.

Although I rarely breed I am proud to have bred over 20 champions worldwide. I also love seeing the puppies sired by my boys both in this country and abroad. It is thrilling, through the miracles of scientific advances to see puppies sired by Leo and Jacko in countries as far apart as USA to New Zealand.

I hope everyone enjoys their day as much as I will enjoy judging your dogs.

Bitches - Angela Pedder (Caldermist)Angela has lived with dogs all her life and has owned Bearded Collies for 34 years, having acquired her first Beardie “Basil”, aka Calderlin Islay Mist, a “Braid” grandson from Dorothy Lindsay in 1981. Angela continued to enjoy her dogs as companions until a friend persuaded her to show her new puppy at a local Limit show. Since then, Angela has either owned or bred numerous KC Stud Book qualifying dogs, three UK Champions, three Irish Champions, several additional CC winners and seven Junior Warrant successes. She was an active committee member of the Northern Branch of the Bearded Collie Club for 12 years on behalf of which she co-ordinated the Northern Bearded Collie Training Class and several successful Educational Seminars. Angela started her judging career in 1997 awarding her first set of Challenge Certificates in 2010 and has since judged at Championship Show level throughout the UK, Ireland, Germany and Belgium. She is currently an active member on Blackpool Championship Dog Show Committee where she holds the position of Assistant Chief Steward. Whilst Beardies will always remain her first love, she maintains a special interest in two Portuguese breeds, the Podengo and the Water Dog in which she also awards Challenge Certificates. Together with her husband George, Angela currently shares her life with 5 Beardies and a small family of Podengos. She feels privileged and extremely honoured to have been voted by the membership to judge at this year’s BCC Championship show and is very much looking forward to her day at one of her favourite shows.

Referee - Graham Atkins (Snikkles)I had my first Beardie (Brambledale Bluestar) in 1976, and have since shown and bred several champions and stud book qualifiers, I first judged the breed at an Open show in 1985 since then I have judged occasionally Working & Pastoral breeds and Groups at Open Shows. I have given CCs on numerous occasions since 1992 my happiest was judging Crufts (Dogs) in 2009 I have judged abroad a few times and recently judged a Euro Show in the Czech Republic (2014) where my BOB (INT CH OOPS I DID IT AGAIN) went Group 2. I was pleased to hear (Rony) won BIS at the World Show in Milan (2015) We are currently showing 2 homebred Beardies (1 having won BIS, BPIS at Club Open/Championship shows, 2 CCs and 4 RCCs).

BEARDED COLLIE DNA DATABANKTAKE A POSITIVE STEP TO HELP SAFEGUARD

THE FUTURE HEALTH OF OUR BREED

One of the most important legacies we can leave for our breed is a DNA Databank and the Joint Breed Liaison Committee has made arrangements with the Animal Health Trust to collect and archive the DNA from KC Breed registered Bearded Collies.A DNA Databank is a collection of DNA samples from different Bearded Collies that can be stored for an indefinite period of time with a view to using it in the future for research purposes, e.g. investigating the causes of inherited diseases, studies into genetic diversity or the frequency of a genetic mutation in the general Bearded Collie population, such as was carried out in the recent CEA study. We are interested in storing DNA from any Bearded Collie but especially those which have, or will be, used for breeding purposes. We also want to store DNA from those dogs that are known to be affected by, or be closely related to, dogs affected with inherited conditions.DNA can be collected by means of a cheek swab - the cost of the swab, extracting the DNA and storing it is only £5.00 per dog. BCC Rescue and Welfare are pleased to be offering owners the facility to provide samples of Beardies DNA at our Championship Show at the subsidised cost of £2.50 per kit.You can have your dog swabbed at the show - in which case you will need to bring details of your dog, including KC registration number, microchip/tattoo no. if known and details of any possible inherited health conditions, together with copies of any relevant information regarding them i.e. hip score certificates, eye exam certificates, dates of diagnosis and copies of any key notes from the clinical history. OR you can collect a swab kit, do the procedure at home and send your samples and information to the AHT in the envelope provided.Whichever you wish to do please order the number of kits you require on the entry form.Remember it is important that you update the health information on your dog so that any changes in clinical status can be recorded. The AHT also want to know if your dog lived a long healthy life too! Both owner and dog information is kept in the strictest confidence, although from time to time a list of the names of dogs whose DNA is stored may be released to Breed Club representatives. No information other than the name is released.Swabs and submission forms are also available from the Animal Health Trust, email – [email protected] (also the email address for updating the health information on your dog).

To encourage owners to submit samples to the DNA Databank, the BCC is subsidising the cost of the swabs so they are

HALF PRICE if ordered with your entry.

18. Dogs in Vehicles on Hot Days. Your dog is vulnerable and at risk during hot weather and the Kennel Club offers the following guidance to help guide you through the do’s and don’ts travelling to and whilst at KC licensed events.• When travelling to a show please take a moment to consider whether the route to the show is on a busy holiday

route, and leave earlier to avoid increased time in traffic jams.• If your vehicle is not air-conditioned seriously consider whether travelling to the show is a good idea at all.• The vehicle should be as fully ventilated as possible, and plenty of stops should be taken, with lots of water

available to drink.• Ensure your dog is not sitting in full sunlight. There should be plenty of free flowing air around the dog.• When at the show, never leave your dog in the vehicle.• Keep the dog in the shade - take your own shade for example a large umbrella and always have plenty of

water available to drink so your dog stays well hydrated.• Avoid your dog taking part in unnecessary exertion, or from standing in exposed sunlight for extended lengths

of time. Remember, if you feel hot your dog is very likely to feel much hotter and dehydrated, and this could lead to dire

results. Please look after your dog’s welfare. WARNING: IF YOUR DOG IS FOUND TO BE AT RISK FORCIBLE ENTRY TO YOUR VEHICLE MAY BE NECESSARY WITHOUT LIABILITY FOR ANY DAMAGE CAUSED. Anyone whose dog is entered at a Kennel Club licensed event should take all reasonable steps to ensure the needs of their dog(s) are met, and should not put a dog’s health and welfare at risk by any action, default, omission or otherwise. Breach of Kennel Club Regulations in this respect may be referred to the General Committee for disciplinary action under Kennel Club Rules and Regulations. Exhibitors/Competitors are reminded that show societies have the right under Kennel Club Regulation to refuse any entry.

19. Not for Competition entries will be accepted. Details of each dog so entered must be recorded on the entry form and must be Kennel Club registered.

20. No modifications will be made to the schedule except by permission of the General Committee of the Kennel Club, which will be followed by advertisement in the Canine press wherever possible.

21. If acknowledgement of receipt of postal entries is required a SAE should be enclosed. 22. All postal entries must be made on or before the closing date of entries (Postmark) upon the entry forms enclosed

for that purpose. All postal entry forms must be accompanied by the appropriate entry fees of the entry will not be accepted.

23. Should a Judge be prevented from fulfilling their engagement the committee reserve to themselves the right of appointing another judge to fulfill their duties. Exhibitors are at liberty to withdraw from competition but no entry fees can be returned.

Page 10: THE BEARDED COLLIE CLUB - Fosse Datafossedata.co.uk/downloads/pdf/BEAR_DEC_16_Schedule.pdf · THE BEARDED COLLIE CLUB SCHEDULE of 34 Class Unbenched SINGLE BREED ... Ben, in 1975,

24. No animal other than an exhibit shall be brought into the precincts of a dog show during its continuance except any dogs registered to assist the disabled or dogs required for educational or instructional purposes or by permission of the committee. However, at the discretion of the show society, a dog brought to the show by a spectator may be admitted into the precincts of the show, with the proviso that those in charge of the dog sign a declaration confirming the dog is free from disease and that the dog will be kept under proper control at all times.

25. Exhibitors showing dogs are not permitted to hold any conversation with the judge during the competition, and any exhibitor who persists in addressing the judge after being requested not to do so by the ring steward, the judge or any member of the committee may be disqualified and reported to the Kennel Club, and any prize awarded to his or her dogs may be forfeited. No person other than the exhibitor (officials excepted) will be allowed in the ring during judging.

26. If in the opinion of the Show Secretary, Show Manager or Judge any dog is considered not in a fit state for exhibition owing to disease, savage disposition or any other cause, the dog may be excluded or removed from the show on the instruction of the show management.
