Port Clinton defeats Oak Harbor,
Port Clinton lost two of its mostprecious citizens this past weekand I will miss them both verymuch. Dick Wolf passed away lastFriday. He literally gave his life tothe Port Clinton Yacht Club as thecaretaker there for 34 years. Thetitle caretaker, as Past Commo-dore Lock Zeis pointed out at thefuneral, doesnt quite cover whatDick did in his years at PCYC. Theroom was lled with Past Com-modores for whom he served,literally taking care of every inchof that facility. On Monday morn-ing, The other Mary Alice, oth-erwise known as Myrt Streeter,also passed away. She was a char-acter in the best sense of thatterm. She and her late husbandClarence raised a family of beau-tiful and successful children, andthey will forever be her legacy.

I had a great time giving bloodat the Red Cross Bloodmobile atCatawba Community Hall lastSaturday morning. I did a doublered this time. The Bloodmobilewill be back in our area this com-ing Monday, Jan. 14 at St. Paul Lu-theran Church on South ChurchRd. in Marblehead from noon to5 p.m. I can tell you from personalexperience that it gives me a greatdeal of satisfaction giving bloodto perhaps help save the life of atotal stranger.

A parent whose child has rescueda wounded bird or toad knows thatMona Rutger and the staff at Backto the Wild will patiently and hu-manely answer questions and offerexpert advice or sanctuary. A per-son who has never seen an eagle,hawk or an owl up close may havehad their memorable rst experi-ence with Back to the Wilds travel-ing exhibits at festivals and schoolsin our area or at their remarkableBack to the Wild sanctuary nearCastalia.
In 2006, Rutger was named Ani-mal Planets Hero of the Year. InOctober of 2012, Back to the Wildrescued a bald eagle that was struckby a jet at the Erie/Ottawa RegionalAirport in Port Clinton. There havebeen surgeries for the eagle andthere will be a lengthy rehabilita-tion at Back to the Wild, after whichthe Airport Eagle is scheduled to bereleased late this summer.
After 20 years of supporting andrescuing animals and educatingour children and our community,Back to the Wild can use nancialsupport. Rutger, who rarely asksfor assistance, has posted a heartfeltletter on facebook and on the Backto the Wild website, www.backto-
thewild.com.We have no guaranteed source of
income and most donors have hadto cut back or even drop out untilthings improve. I cant and wontgive up the ship, but it is a greatchallenge to nd funding, saysRutger. On a very heartwarmingand uplifting note, our support-ers were extra generous during theHoliday Season and New Year, re-membering us with a much-need-ed donation to help us keep ourdoors open.
If you are in a position to helpus help wildlife, remember usthroughout the year, especially in
the spring when we are literallyoverwhelmed with hundreds oforphaned and injured wildlingsmonthly.

Mary Alice MyrtStreeter, 91, of PortClinton, passed away,Monday, Jan. 7. Shewas born June 30,1921, in Port Clinton,the daughter of Wil-liam F. and Clara A.(Hoffman) Wolf. OnJune 8, 1946, in Im-maculate ConceptionCatholic Church, shemarried Clarence H.Streeter and he pre-ceded her in deathon June 21, 1994. Thenickname of Myrtt her well. She en-
joyed a good joke andwith a twinkle in her eye didnt mind telling a bad one. Myrtwas a casual, relaxed person who got things done withoutuster or urry. She held dear her family, friends, churchand community and will be greatly missed by all.
A lifelong member of Immaculate Conception Church,Mary Alice also was a graduate of Immaculate ConceptionSchool. She served on the sacristan committee, the Altar
Rosary Society, the Lady of Fatima Study Club, the ChristRenews His Parish team and the RCIA team, where shehelped prospective members in their preparation to join her
beloved Church. She also was an active member and pastpresident of the Child Guidance Council. She was namedPort Clinton Woman of the Year in 1967. A former physicaleducation major, Mary Alice taught swimming at the citybeach, East Harbor State Park and Port Clinton High school.She volunteered for the American Red Cross in the lifesavingprograms and the Bloodmobile program. She held a lifetimemembership in the Magruder Hospital Auxiliary as well asmemberships in the Port Clinton Yacht Club, Moose Lodge#1610 Ladies Auxiliary and the Elks Lodge #1718 Auxiliary.
Mary Alice is survived by her loving children: Mary Jo(Joseph) Brenner of Oconomowoc, WI; William W. (Melo-dy) Streeter of Racine, WI; Patricia A. (David) Soderberg ofPort Clinton; Martha J. (Jeffrey) Cox of Lower Burrell, PA;and Carol F. (Gregory) Fox of Port Clinton.
She is further survived by grandchildren: Joseph (Chris-tine) Brenner, William Brenner, Todd Streeter, Caleb Street-er, Benjamin Soderberg, Joshua (Kimberly) Soderberg, AnnSoderberg, Sarah (Robert) Reifschneider, Daniel Cox, BrianCox and Joseph Cox and great-grandchildren: Joseph, Max-well and Marcella Brenner and Wyatt Soderberg. Mary Al-ice was preceded in death by her husband, parents, broth-ers; James, Richard and George Wolf, step-brother TomMcRitchie and nephew David Wolf.
The family wishes to express our heartfelt appreciation forthe many thoughts, prayers, and acts of kindness extendedby relatives, friends and neighbors during the illness of ourdear mother. Also we would like to thank her caregivers andespecially Stein Hospice.

On Sunday, Dec. 23, Lee Horne, Mayor of Port Clin-
ton Vince Leone and his wife Suzi, Chief of Police RobHickman and his wife Roseann and John L. Sullivanhanded out gifts in the Conestoga West End of PortClinton. Horne has wanted to do this project for sev-eral years. This year he found the support to make hiswish come true and enrich the Christmas of many chil-dren.
There were donations of toys and funds from theConestoga West End, from Port Clinton citizens andfrom Maureen Saponari of the Salvation Army. Therewere baby dolls and Barbie dolls, basketball hoops andtrucks, hat and mitten sets, games, sleds and more. Theunwrapped gifts were bagged and labeled according toage and gender, then tagged with Merry Christmasfrom the Conestoga West End.
The children of the West End squealed, jumpedup and down and gave out hugs as they picked their
choice of toys from the bags.Lee Horne said, This made my Christmas. I cannotwait until next year to do it again. I know we all knowthe true meaning of Christmas, but until you do thisand see the faces of these kids, you may not ever knowhow truly blessed you are.

In their second matchup of the season, Port Clinton de-feated Oak Harbor, 53-39.
The Redskins jumped out to an early lead, outscoringthe Rockets 12-6 in the rst quarter and 9-6 in the secondfor a 21-12 lead at the half.
In the second half Oak Harbor was able to make a fewruns, but was never able to seriously threaten as Port Clin-ton slowly pulled away, outscoring the Rockets 32-27 inthe nal two quarters.
Tiffany Colston led all scorers with 22 points and HopeThorbahn helped pace the Skins with 18. Makayla Car-penter, Maria Boers and Abbie Gezo each nished withnine points to lead Oak Harbor.
With the win, the Skins are now 11-1 overall and 7-1 inthe Sandusky Bay Conference. The Rockets, meanwhile,drop to 6-5 and 4-4 in the league.
Port Clinton 52, Edison 44Tiffany Colston led Port Clinton with 20 points and
Hope Thorbahn added 18 in the Skins victory over Edi-son. At 11-1, Port Clinton is currently ranked ninth in Di-vision II. Clyde, the top team in the SBC at 13-0, is rankedNo. 2

open jumpers, grabbed some offensive rebounds andplayed good, solid basketball in battling Oak Harbor toa 13-13 tie.
But in the second quarter Rockets forward Abbie Gezohelped key a 17-0 run that put Oak Harbor in control as itrolled a to 48-27 victory over the Crimson Streaks. Gezoscored 13 of the points during the spurt to turn a 15-13decit into a 30-15 lead.
We started off slow but after the rst minute of the rstquarter, we picked it up and started a run, said Gezo, wholed all scorers with 17 points. We knew we had to comeout with some intensity in the second quarter.
Rockets point guard Makayla Carpenter also contribut-ed, scoring 13 points as she was able to consistently breakdown the SJCC defense and get some open shots in thelane.
Thats my rst look, Carpenter said of taking it to the
basket. If its (there), I go to the basket. If it doesnt, I tryto pass it out. It just so happened that every time I droveinto the middle I stopped for the jumper.
Maria Boers helped the Rockets extend the lead early inthe third quarter by scoring seven of Oak Harbors pointsduring an 11-4 run that saw them push the lead to 42-23after three quarters.
The Rockets full-court press also gave the Streaks (4-5) problems as Carpenter and Andrea Cecil consistentlypressured the ball and created some key turnovers in thesecond quarter to help Oak Harbor build the lead.
Briana Reardon led the Streaks with nine points andBrennan Reardon and Laura Baez nished with six pointsapiece. SJCC was missing two key players and were soshorthanded that the JV game had to be cancelled.

The Port Clinton Knights of Columbus Council 1750basketball Hoop Shoot is scheduled for 2 p.m., Sunday,Jan. 13, in the Immaculate Conception School gym. Allboys and girls between the ages of 10 and 14 are eligible tocompete in the free throw championship.
Championship entrants will compete against youngstersof the same age and gender in ve age divisions. At thecouncil level, each competitor gets 15 free throws and theone who makes the most shots wins. All entry forms/scoresheets must include a parents signature. Proof of age(copy of birth certicate) must accompany all registrationforms and will be veried at all levels. Age eligibility is de-termined by the age of the contestant as of Jan. 1.
There is no entry fee and trophies are awarded to the

After falling to Seneca East in their pre-vious game, the Danbury Lakers bouncedback to defeat league foe Maumee ValleyCountry Day, 43-25.
The Lakers offense featured another
balanced attack as Erin Lavelle, AlyssaAlmendinger and Stephanie Kukay eachscored eight points to lead Danbury.
Kennedie Jackson led the Hawks with 10points.
With the win, the Lakers are now 5-4overall and 4-0 in the Toledo Area AthleticConference.
This week, the Lakers enter a difcultportion of their schedule. They host OakHarbor in non-conference action before
taking on top of two teams in the TAAC.The Lakers host Toledo Christian (8-2, 5-0TAAC) on Thursday, travel to Ottawa Hills(5-5, 3-2 TAAC) on Saturday and host St.Mary CC on Tuesday.
The Danbury Lakers fell to CardinalStritch, 51-29, last weekend, losing their
