ASMC AWARD It is the time of year when we begin to focus on the American Society of Military

Comptrollers (ASMC) National Awards Program. The ASMC annually recognizes the

outstanding accomplishments of its chapters, membership and the defense financial

management community through its awards program. This program encompasses

individual and team achievement awards, scholarships, educational grants, an essay

contest, chapter recognition, and a variety of other individual based awards. We

encourage you to look over these awards and nominate someone if you feel they are

deserving.

Among the chapter awards there is recognition for community service for chapters that

organize their members to volunteer in their communities, awards for communications

programs that regularly communicate their activities and maintain a chapter website, and

many others. Chapter award nominations are open for the competition year 1 April 2015

to 31 March 2016.

There are also membership awards, which are presented to ASMC members for

achievements in areas such as leadership, recruitment, corporate engagement, and

authorship: the Chapter Leadership Award nominations are due April 10, the Corporate

Member nominations are due April 10, and the Essay Contest packets are due February

28. The topic of the 2016 National Essay Contest pertains to how the resource

management profession can be improved as resources and personnel continue to

decline. All those who are interested in writing on this topic are encouraged to submit an

essay.

For more information you can visit the ASMC website select the Awards/Recognition tab.

Scholarship Program News 2015-2016 ASMC CHAPTER SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

The Redstone Arsenal ASMC Chapter Board recently met to discuss the continuing decline of chapter resources. For the 2015-2016 ASMC Scholarship Program, we made the difficult decision to strictly follow the National guidelines and award our scholarships based on the Applicant being a graduating high school senior in the final half of his/her school year, or a high school graduate within six months of the application deadline. We will offer 3 student scholarships for $500 each (no differing amounts). Should there be less than 3 candidates apply, which meet the criteria, then less than 3 scholarships will be awarded.

Requirements for submission:

For Graduating High School Seniors:

(Use the Local Scholarship form)*

- Applicant must be entering a field of study directly related to financial/resource management (such as business administration, economics, accounting, finance) Applications that do not fall within these fields will not be considered.

- Applicants must be immediately related to an ASMC member or a qualified dependent on tax returns.

- Applicants must have maintained a 3.0 GPA

- Application showing extracurricular school activities, community service

considered. The deadline is firm.

Community Project

Page 12 THE ASMC “TROLLER NEWSLETTER

We will be hosting a Valentine’s Party for the Veteran residents at the Floyd E. “Tut” Fann Veterans

Home on Friday, February 12, at 2 PM. Tut Fann is located at 2701 Meridian Street, Huntsville. It is our

desire to show our gratitude for their sacrifice and service to our Country and to bring a little cheer and

fun into their afternoon. If you wish to volunteer for this community project, please contact Dana Wil-

banks, at 256-876-4283 or [email protected] by COB Tuesday, February 9.

We will be serving cupcakes and ice cream. We also hope to participate in a karaoke session with the

Vets.

The Events Coordinator has requested that we bring candy donations for bingo prizes. With state

budget cuts to State Veterans Homes, the donations will be greatly appreciated. The residents prefer

full size candy bars but any donation will be appreciated. Please bring your donations to the monthly

luncheon on Thursday, February 11. If you have either a candy or monetary donation and aren’t

attending the luncheon, please contact me before COB on Wednesday, February 10.

Thanks in advance for volunteering with this project. I am so honored that our Chapter has chosen this

project. Any time we have the opportunity to thank a Veteran and do something for them, we need to

seize those opportunities. Without their preservation of our country’s freedom, there were be no need

for military comptrollers in today’s world.

Hope to see you there!
