HEPHAESTUS is the Greek name for the Roman
god of the forge, Vulcan. Birmingham has the
world’s largest iron statue, that of the Roman god,
Vulcan. We named our Starfleet chapter the
Hephaestus to give us ties to our city and to Star
Trek, which has had its own Vulcan since 1966.
Hephaestus forged armor and weapons for the gods.
We create our own “armor and weapons” here, in
our newsletter, so it is called The Anvil.
The Anvil, Issue 246, is the monthly newsletter of
the USS Hephaestus, NCC-2004, of Starfleet, The
International Star Trek Fan Association. All terms
and phrases from Star Trek are owned by
Paramount Pictures Corporation, a division of
Paramount Communications and all rights are
reserved.

Greetings, Last months meeting we discussed ways that might get more people coming to meetings and the social. One change we did was to drop the business meeting. This way people only have one event to plan to be at instead of two a month. If any business is needed to be done it will be done at the beginning of the social or through email by way of the yahoo group - [email protected]. Also another way to get with the group is on our Facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/pages/USS-Hephaestus/104543106269305. I haven’t done a twitter account as I don’t do twitter. So check out the Away Team and Activity Schedule of what is coming up in the next several months. I am looking for articles, reports or stories that can make our newsletter be more then just an information sheet. Check the deadline for the Anvil on the Away Team and Activity Schedule in this newsletter so I can get your article in the next Anvil. Capt. MarkAdam Miller [email protected]

This month the Briefing will be brief because I’m getting ready to go out of town for a few days. First be
sure to check the news from the Ready Room to keep up with the changes taking place. And as always check
the Away Team and Activity Schedule. We have some exciting events coming up soon. One of these events is
the spring cookout. Make plans now to attend.
Finally, I will hold any discussion of the game I mentioned last month until March’s Anvil. In the
meantime, be thinking about your life form, AKA persona. See you next time.

Jan.2, 2011 -- Business Meeting:
Cancelled due to problems at meeting site.
Dec. 17, 2011 – Social:
The social was turned in to a discussion meeting for what the chapter wants to do this year as well as how to increase members and participation. Bids for IC and Summit were discussed. Also we looked to do some changes to the newsletter to make it a more effective tool membership drive. We voted on dropping the business meeting. With 7 votes to discontinue and 3 abstains it has been decided to no longer have the Monday business meeting. The social had been set up to be the second Saturday after the business meeting. Since there will no long be a business meeting, we will no longer have that as a reference point. Therefore, we have decided that starting in March the social will now be on the second Saturday of the month. Anvils will be available at the social, so articles for the Anvil will need to be to me by the 1st Saturday of the month.
Attendance: 9 people.
• Personnel Updates: I would like to announce that Neil Yawn has been promoted from Brigadier
General to Major General. Congratulations Neil!
SSttaarrfflleeeett MMaarriinnee CCoorrppss Greetings,
