often in Louisville but the shortest time intervening be- tween ¬ meetings was seven years Five years ago when the minis ¬ ters left this place for their re spective appointments they were loud in their praises of Columbia and the hospitable manner in which they had been entertained This year nothing will be left undone to make all preachers and laymen f eeljperf ectly at home Columbia does riot boast of ° a very large population but her hospitality and culture are known issb one thing about Columbians and Adair county people which has been a mark of distinction for fifty yearswhen a cause is un ¬ dertaken it is finished and fin- s M i h ed completely This week there are over one hundred and seventyfive ministers withus The doors of our homes are open Praise God from whom all bless ings flow < During Bradley administra ¬ tion of four years the average school per capita was only 235 In 1899 in a desperate effort toI make campaign material the per capita was padded and it was placed at 270 leaving a > deficifcin tRe school fund of277 000 which had to be paid by Democratic officials Unde- Democratic < rule the average per capita for four years has been raised to 322 cents with a record per capita for this year of 340 which is not padded for a sin le cent x All debts on tt they Schoo1Fund have been paid 7 and tate Normal Schools have Yt t been esYablisliei The thousand people passed through the gates open- ing ¬ day The weather was de ¬ lightful during the session and all sections the state were rep- resented ¬ The display of stock said to have been the best the people of Kentucky ever had the pleasure of seeing James Holt a native of Rus ¬ sell inJ Louisville the other day charged with the murder of Mrs Etly It will be remembered that when the crime was committed Holt was arrested asa suspect but turned loose The attorneys of John B Etly who is in jail charged with the murder of his wife caused Holts arrest It looks like a play for sympathy j The Third District Leader a Republican paper has made its appearance at Bowling Green It is edited and published by Mr E Cully formerly of the Burkesvill News Mr Cully is newspaper man of long experi- ence ¬ and the initial number of the Leader presents a fine ap- pearance ¬ typographically and otherwise < Wilson says that he does not it good business to close- down the large distilleries i they
