ited his old friends in this communitylast week he having resided here inhis early manhood He is now a prom¬
inent business man of Hopkinsvillewhere he located soon after the closeof the war between the States Ourpeople regretted that he could not re ¬
main with them but two days as hewas remembered as a very excellentyoung man Mr Gaither served inthe Confederate army aud was one ofthe gallant soldiers who went out fromAdair county During his stay herehe related to us this incident that oc-

during the war In 18C2 he waspassing through Wayne county withhis regiment His horse had givenout and he was compelled to secure an¬
other one He had an acquaintance inthe county Mr James Jones withwhose son Nat had been in collegehere and it was to him Mr Gaithertold his troubles Mr Jones informedhim that he did not have a horse tospare but that his daughter ownedone that he would sell All rightsaid Nat bring it out The priceagreed upon was 8150 but Mr Gaitherhad only Confederate money and MrJones could not use it Buthe wantedNat to have the animal and remarkedI will take your note for the amount
