David Robert Joseph Beckham, who

Galaxy. When it comes to Beckham, the

first thing that most people consider

his professional ethics and skills are

weak. In fact, he is one of the best soc-

cer players in England’s soccer history.

He is considered as the best free-kick

taker of all time by many fans and ex-

always hit the goal from long distance.

she is the most

fashionable woman

in the world. When the most fa-

mous soccer player meets the

queen of fashion, the most ro-

mantic and seductive love story

becomes the focus point to mil-

lions of fans.

Beckham is the richest soccer

player even among all the ath-

letes. He is a total money ma-

chine. He can not only make

money for himself, but for Eng-

land as well. In the 2001 World

Cup Qualifier, Beckham scored a

goal at the last minute. After that

match, English economists calcu-

lated that if Beckham had missed

that goal, the England National

Soccer Team would have missed

the 2002 World Cup Final, and

England would have lost more

than £100,000,000. Because of

so many contributions by

Beckham for England, he got a

medal, “The Most Honourable

Order of the Bath” by the British

royalty.

Beckham still plays for Los

Angeles Galaxy! So, let’s go and

watch his matches. The fans from

other place in the world will envy

us because they can only see him

on TV, but we may meet him in

some of the famous restaurants in

L.A.

1999. They have four children.

Zoe Chen is a Chinese student who is studying at USC Marshall School of Business for her MBA pro-gram. Before starting her masters program, she had been at USC Lan-guage Academy for two semesters.

Although Zoe is young, she has wonderful life experiences. Growing up in China and getting her bache-lor’s degree in France, she has met people from all walks of life.

During her stay in Europe, she communicated with people from various backgrounds and cultures, which intensely enriched her knowl-edge and broadened her horizons.

She also travelled in many coun-tries while in Europe. She visited Great Britain, Italy, Switzerland, and Germany.

However, not everything went well for Zoe when she first arrived in Europe for her studies. She couldn’t speak any French, and language and communication became her major problem at first.

Having no friends or relatives,

she lived alone. It was fortunate that she wasn’t defeated by those diffi-culties. She wasn’t afraid of making mistakes, and kept practicing speak-ing and writing French. By talking with native speakers and by making mistakes, she greatly improved her French

Zoe used to be a law major in France. However, she changed her major to business when she came to America for her master’s degree. The major reason is that she realized the law she studied in France had restriction after she returned to China. She couldn’t practice what she learnt in a Chinese environment.

“Difficulties are not challenges, but opportunities to me,” Zoe said. By overcoming difficulties, people become stronger and more confi-dent. She sets an excellent example for students at Language Academy.

On Thursday, March 22, Kuwait

held the 10th Arab Shooting Champi-

onship where Mariya Dmitriyenko, a

Kazakhstani athlete, won first place.

The medal ceremony was surprised

while the coordinators mistakenly

play a parody of her countries na-

tional anthem from the 2006 movie

“Borat.”

Coordinators apologized for their

embarrassing mistake and re-did the

medal ceremony where they played

the actual national anthem of Kazakh-

stan.

Foreign ministry spokesman de-

manded a thorough investigation on

this incident.

The video got to about 3 million

views, and further information has

been released about the investigation.

Mistakes happen all the time, but the

coordinators should have paid atten-

tion to downloading the correct na-

tional anthem.

P A G E 5 Movie Review: Mirror, Mirror by Phoebe Zhang

“Mirror, mirror on the wall,

who is the fairest of all?”

“Snow White is fairer far to

see.”

I believe that everyone had

read the fairy tale Snow White in

Grimm's Fairy Tales. In 1937,

the Walt Disney company pro-

duced an animated film Snow

White and Seven Dwarfs which

was the first animated feature of

Disney as well as the first ani-

mated film in the world. Since

then, the image of Snow White

grown in people’s mind—white

skin as snow, black hair as the

color of the night, red lips as

blood and big eyes as bright

stars. The story of beautiful prin-

cess and Mr. Right became

many girls’ dreams.

This time, Tarsem Singh

produces a new story of Snow

White which is about the prin-

cess struggles with her step-

mother for winning back her

birthright. After killing the king,

an evil queen steals control of

the kingdom and exiles the prin-

cess. What will happen between

brave princess and evil queen?

How can princess take back her

right with the help of seven tact-

ful resisters? Will princess and

prince be together at the end of

the story just like the fairy tale?

The movie Mirror Mirror is

full of gorgeous pictures and

fantasy imagination. Here are

some anticipations. First of all,

this is the first time that Julia

Robers plays a villain—an evil

queen in her acting career over

20 years. Second of all, Lily

Jane Collins plays a modernized

princess who is not waiting for

the fate cowardly, but fighting

for herself bravely. Besides, Ar-

mie Hammer plays the prince

who is very handsome and

wealthy and seven dwarves are

not innocent miners, instead,

they are robbers. Such a bunch

of people get together, what kind

of story will be showed? Go to

the theater in March 30, you will

find the answer.

Restaurant Review

Las Brisas

Combines Ocean

View and Mexican

Food

Sara Al Shehri

Are you looking for a breathtaking

view and a delicious restaurant? This is

your answer! Las Brisas is one of the

best Mexican restaurants in Laguna

Beach. Although I am not a huge fan of

Mexican food in general, this one has

changed my perspective completely!

The variety of the dishes in Las Bri-

sas is huge. Sea food, beef, chicken,

and desserts are all served in an amaz-

ing modern way. The menu contains

many delicious choices that might be

hard for you to order just one! Que-

sadillas, tacos, steaks,

sea food, and chicken

with rice.

In addition, the

dessert menu is even

more tempting! Waf-

fles, cinnamon rolls,

fruit tarts, and cara-

mel flan, which are

best flans I have ever

tasted in LA.

The Las Brisas

restaurant serves cus-

tomers all the week

for breakfast, lunch,

and dinner. The price is also reasonable

for most main courses in the restaurant;

the average price is around $10-20 per

dish. The parking is on the street or by

private valet.

Some people say that the breakfast

buffet in the restaurant is amazing;

therefore, I might come again to try it

and enjoy the spectacular view over the

Pacific and the Laguna Beach coastline.

Maybe you can try it and experience

this beautiful place in LA like I did.

P A G E 6 Fitness to Go by Lilly Sabajan

A resistance band is a simple way to exercise and get a complete workout.

What fitness tool can you use in your car or pack for a trip that takes up less space than a sock.?

A resistance band is a 6-inch-wide and flat latex exercise tool that rolls up to the size of your fist and is available at any sport-ing goods store.

With this band you can get a full body workout any where you go. The following three exer-cises hit most major muscles, so that you can get a big bang for your band.

SQUATS: Step on the mid-dle of the band. Put your foot on it and hold each end in each hand. Put your hands on your

hips or waist and keep your feet apart about as wide as your shoul-ders. Wrap the band around your

hands so that it is tight, and per-form squats.

LAT PULL DOWN: Hold the

band overhead, have your hands wider than your shoulders, and keep the band tight. Pull down toward your back pockets and bring the band to the chest level.

RESISTED PUSH-UPS: Lie

face down on a mat in push-up position. Put the band across your back and under your arm-pits. Put the end of the band under each hand. Hold the band tight and push up from the matt. You’ll get extra ten-sion from the band. This move adds resistance to your chest.

If you want to be in good shape, just continue to do the three easy steps wherever you go. There is no excuse! You will feel the best satisfaction.

My Skin Care

Products

YVOON WEI

My skin type is combina-

tion skin in China. In sum-

mer, it gets oilier while in

winter, it becomes a little

dry. Since I arrived in LA,

my skin type has changed. It

becomes very dry at in the

morning and gets quite oily

in the afternoon. I know it is

because the weather here is

really dry compared to

Shanghai’s.

It is hard for me to find a

lot of skin care products in

LA that are suitable for my

skin and solve my skin prob-

lems effectively.

If you have the same prob-

lem as me, the following

recommendations would be

helpful. Here are some good

products I think to fight off

the dryness and oiliness this

summer.

Albion Essential Skin Con-

ditioner is my one of my fa-

vorite skin products. It was

recommended by one of my

best friends who is a beauty

magazine editor. It works

really well with my skin ex-

cept its smell. Every time I

use it, it makes my skin soft

and smooth. Even if you

have acne, you can also use

this product

to remedy

your acne.

The price of

it is a little

high. 165ml

-$75.00,

330ml-

$135.00

Jurlique Hand Cream

If you are much familiar with

me, you can easily find that I

bring my Julique hand cream

every day. I love it so much.

It touches like thick cream,

but it turns to be matt when

you apply it to your skin.

Unlike

other oily

hand

cream, it is

thick and

moisturizes

your skin

fantastic-

ally. 40ml-

$25, 125ml

-$49

Origins Clear Improvement

(black) is an intensive mask

to fight off pores. The active

charcoal in the mask helps

the users to clear the pores

which are clogged by oil and

dirt. It works pretty well if I

have acne

and will

clear them

s o o n .

Drink Up

(middle) is

a mask to

solve your dryness quickly. It

moisturizes your skin quickly

and keeps it smooth for the

whole day. I use it when I

need to go out but my skin is

not in a great situation.

100ml-$22.00

Cellbone Hydra

B5+ Skin Hydra-

tion Gel is an-

other skin care

product that

solves success-

fully my dry-

ness. I use a

small portion,

but it works very well.

SISI LIN

Tuesday is University

Day. On this day, students

of USC Language Academy

have a special task—they

will be formal USC students

and attend regular university

classes. It is a precious op-

portunity for students to

have real university class

experiences and see how

much we understand the

course content.

I went to a lecture,

which had at least 50 stu-

dents in that class. I sat in

the back of the classroom,

and I realized that a lecture

is a huge challenge for stu-

dents. Most classes of Lan-

guage Academy are small

courses, and the teacher can

take care of each student.

However, in a regular uni-

versity lecture, the professor

only concentrates on his

class content, and won’t

care if you are absent-

minded.

This is because as a regu-

lar university student, you

should be responsible for

your study, and the profes-

sor is only a bridge for your

study. Thus, a large lecture

is usually a challenge for

students, and they have to

be 100% focus on what the

professor is teaching.

Another thing I realized in

the lecture was that many

students used social media

in class. Although the pro-

fessor didn’t forbid the use

of laptops, it was not a good

idea to use it in class. Many

students couldn’t control

themselves, and they used

laptops for Facebook, online

shopping, and dating. Not

bringing social network to

class helps students avoid

distraction.

All in all, University

Day is a great experience to

see the real life in univer-

sity. By attending the regu-

lar university classes, Lan-

guage Academy students

will find the gap with regu-

lar university students, and

improve in their future

study.
