TRANSCRIPT

Each person you come across will have their own opinions, preferences, and views, and

they aren’t all going to be positive in terms

of your operations.

In other words, not everyone is going to

like what you’re doing.

Some may still be willing to help, others

won’t give you the time of day, but you’ll

come across one or all of them eventually!

Who will you come across?

• Full of open-ended, generic compliments

• Don’t stand as much of a concrete resource

• Get a little confidence-boost from the feedback

How do you interact with them?

• Engage them for conversation and try to expand your general network

• Try to obtain specific insights

• See where they may be willing to help

• Full of advice and comments

• Make their own views known

• Not enough interest for more than a few questions

How do you interact with them?

• Give thanks for their time

• Ask as many questions as you can while they’re willing to answer

• Utilize them as an outside resource for the future

• Could be a resource but just doesn’t understand it

• Can’t grasp your concept, mission , or goals

• Not interested strictly due to lack of clarity

How do you interact with them?

• Put everything into basic terms

• Engage them for their interests to form comparisons

• Make broad explanations off of those comparisons

• Will obsess over telling you what they’re doing right

• Won’t tell you what you’re doing wrong or what they think of your offering

• Put an emphasis on how their operations are different and better than anyone else

How do you interact with them?

• Listen to what they’re saying

• Oblige their need for attention and ask them questions that could benefit you

• Try to pick up some useful advice or insights

• Just a wildly negative individual

• Dislike you, your startup, and everything you stand for

• Full of unjust comments and baseless criticism that stems from very little information

How do you interact with them?

• Engage at your own risk

• Likely wise to save your time and move on

• Avoid battles that you’ll never win

You can’t win everyone over, and it’s inefficient to try.

Examine your critics, learn from them, and improve your offering.

Focus your efforts on finding the people who care about your startup!
