The chapter has several community service

projects throughout the year. They include

cleaning the highway, wrapping Christmas

gifts for the DHS, the Angle tree and going

to the nursing home.

You might be asking yourself what do I need

to do community service for? Well, there are

several reasons to do so. For high school

kids, it looks great on your application to col-

lege. The Admission counselor goes through

several hundreds and even thousands of ap-

plications. The more community service that is on your application the better it looks. You

could get selected over another student due to this. They want hard workers in college. For

others, another good reason to do community service, it makes your town look better.

Mainly, it teaches you responsibility and self

worth. It builds character in so many ways!

The next question you probably have is, how

do I get involved? Well, that is easy. You

could do things like the FFA does: Cleaning

the highway makes you and your community

look good. When travelers pass through your

town. Going to the nursing home is another

fantastic way to get involved. It could be

something as simple as sitting with the elders

and talking to them. Or even taking them

gifts during the holidays.

The Angle tree is in my opinion the best com-

munity service project. I mean, how much

better can it get. Buying gifts for children who are in desperate need. Nothing better then

giving a child what they want/need for Christmas when their parents can not afford to give

what is needed.

W e have always

heard that

drones are the

future for every-

thing. We have heard of the

Amazon drones delivering our

purchases to the door. What if

we were to use drones for tak-

ing pictures at school events?

We could get some shots that

were a little hard to get. Not

only would we get a bird eyes

view, we would also get posi-

tive feedback for using new

technology for school.

There are many

drones out

there for pic-

tures. One in

particular is

the Phantom

quadcopter

with a mounted

gopro. The

Phantom sells

for around $755. The

flight time for the Phan-

tom is about twenty five

minutes long.

This isn’t long enough for a foot-

ball game, but is great for small

events such as assemblies and

band/vocal performances. Drones

are the way of the future and can

play a role in our school.
