NO Exceptions!

It’s Winter Again We have had the first frost/freeze. The temperature wavers daily between cold and pleasantly warm. The choice of what to wear varies with the time of day. Welcome to Florida’s winter routine. Is it shorts and tee shirts or sweat suits, coat and gloves? Cheer up, within a month or so and we’ll be back to complaining about the heat wave. This month we will elect new members to our Board of Directors, replacing three, who have 1) completed her term (Milda Kolesar), 2) moved from the community (Donna Shaver), and one who needs to resign for personal reasons (Judy Miller). I want to thank all three for their service to the HOA and community. We have four candidates running to fill these positions (see their resumes in this month’s newsletter). The candidates will be available for questions at Saturday Morning Coffee on 2/11. At the February HOA meeting we will also vote on the 2017-2018 budget. In order to vote you must pay your HOA dues before the Annual Meeting on February 15th. HOA dues are $10 per household granting one vote per household. See Ginger Pace to pay your dues. We always need volunteers: committee chairpersons (Sunshine Committee, Newsletter staff, Bereavement Committee), event chairpersons (Yard Sale, Spring Fling, holiday events/meals), activity leaders (games and special interest leaders). Come join in the activities of our community. A vibrant community is made up of many people sharing the work and enjoying the activities.

Saddle Oak is a kindness-aware community where lives a generosity of spirit, so essential to a healthy community. Charity of spirit is as sure as the skill of the surgeon’s hand; it cannot even be described until it is actually showered on a person. It heals and it cures, flows from caring hearts. I have been a recipient of such from so many SOCers who knocked on my door with one hand and brought food, concern, care, dinners, attention, messages from others and treats in the other. The greetings, the calls and cards, the offers of help, the smiles and visits – I won a lottery.

SADDLE OAK BOWLING

Here are some impressive scores as of January 3rd, our third week of bowling. Check out all these splits!

John Deshayes – After a 2-4-10 split, John stands now with a 542 series.

Frank Hodakowski crushed the pins with a 3-10 and a 5-6 split. Don Godwin showed us how to do a 3-6-7-10 split!

Al Carson showed his skills with a 5-8-10 and a 6-7-10 split. Charlie Parkinson – never disappoints – a 5-10 split for him!

Jim Otto – wowed the crowd with a 3-9-10 split. David Lennox worried the competition with a 5-6 split.

Come to the alley and root us on! Thank you – Ginger Pace

LADIES’ LUNCHEON – This month’s get-together will meet

at the Braised Onion at 1:00 on February 16th.

So many have contributed to improving my mental and physical health - with the best potato soup EVER – and the cooking from so many cozy kitchens. Your comforts and considerations have all flowed to my door and left their mark in my forever mind. It occurs to me how absurd it is to try and thank people for what is simply in their hearts to do. I am forever touched, grateful, changed and moved. Now if I can just remember to whom all the Tupperware belongs. Most sincerely – Paulette McNally

Resume

Kim Schrimmel

I moved to SOC October 3, 2016 with my cat “Pumpkin”. I live at Lot #200.

I came from Franklinville, a small town in New York about 50

miles from Buffalo. I began working at age twelve cutting lawns and cleaning houses. My first “tax paying” job was at Trautwein Dog School grooming, feeding, and cleaning runs. I did everything to care for the dogs plus extras for ten years. I also worked at a Texas Red Hots for three years along with working at the kennels.

I then got a job with the Western New York Developmentally Disabled State Offices. I worked in a group

home with eleven individuals who were mentally handicapped. I found that I loved it. I was the Rec. liaison, the money liaison, and did the menus at most of the state homes where I worked. Part of my job required I be certified in First Aid, CPR, and physical restraint holds to protect clients and others with-in the homes. I worked for the state for thirty-four years.

I attended the Free Methodist Church in Franklinville where I served as secretary for the newsletter, was in

plays, counted the offerings, and was head usher. I know I’m new but I’ve enjoyed meeting all of you. I have enjoyed helping at the Saturday Morning Coffee,

the 50/50, and with several of the dinners. I would like to serve the HOA where I can.

Resume

Joyce Hooper My name is Joyce Hooper. I have lived at Saddle Oak Club since 2007 as

a snowbird. I became a full time resident in 2012. Most of my experience has been in the retail world dealing with people.

I worked at T. J. Max for nineteen years as an assistant manager. I retired when I met my future husband, Bud.

When we moved to Florida in 1972, we became foster parents. We also

became involved with SPIFF (St. Petersburg International Folk Fair Society). We represented the American Indians. I demonstrated crafts and had the craft booth while the kids did entertainment activities.

As a foster parent I handled the clothing closet, worked with the newsletter, and was the treasurer. During

this time I cared for 1-3 kids under the age of 5 years plus caring for my five kids. Later I was assistant manager of PARC Resale (an agency working with the mentally challenged).

After we were snowbirds for a couple of years in an RV, we purchased here because it was the nicest

looking park. The rest is history. I have a dog named Angel who thinks she needs to say “HI” to everyone and that they should say “Hi” back. She also wants to ride in any golf cart she can find.

Hopefully with my experience I can be helpful to the board.

Haroldine “Toots” Lobe

5830 SW 56th Avenue

Ocala, Florida 34474

I went to school in Chicago. I married Bob in 1956. We have three girls, six grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren. We got “Cubby” in 2004. Bob and I retired in 1985. We moved to Venice, FL then in 1991, we came to Marion County. We have been here in Saddle Oak Club since 1996.

Work experience: After high school I worked as a receptionist for Motorola, at Flexonics as a clerk in inventory control for NASA. After marrying Bob, I worked with him at Mars Candy Company. After having our three children, I worked for the Chicago Cubs for ten years and the Chicago Blitz Football team as ticket office secretary. I am a sports fanatic.

Hobbies: Quilting, ceramics, and of course, bowling

SOC Volunteering: bingo, various events and dinners, organized many trips and cruises

Why I am running: I would like to be on the Board because I have been in Saddle Oak Club for twenty years and have enjoyed every one of them. I would like to keep Saddle Oak Club enjoyable and try to get more residents involved in different areas of our community. I would like to get new volunteers to help in making this an enjoyable way of life.

Thank you.

I am interested in being a member of the Home Owners Association Board of the Saddle Oak community.

I have been a resident of the Saddle Oak community since June 8, 2016. I participate in many activities that are held here.

I worked for the Federal Government, Department of Energy and its predecessor agencies, from July 1961 until I retired January 1996. I was a Secretary and Administrative Assistant. I worked in various departments from Legal, Congressional, Budget and Nuclear Energy. I also had a Top Secret Security Clearance.

After retiring from the government I went to work part time for the Washington County School Board, Hagerstown, Maryland, from September 1996 til November 1998 working in the Special Education Department assisting the Occupational and Physical Therapists with typing their reports, forms, and filing.

I was a member of the Board of the Church of the Nazarene from the late 1970's until November 1998. I served as Church Board Secretary for about 25 years. During those years I also served as a member and/or Chairman of the Administration, Personnel and Finance Committee alternating with being a member and/or Chairman of the Evangelism, Membership and Worship Committee.
