Principal Position I am pleased to inform families that Mrs Leanne Hedt has accepted the permanent principal position through incentive transfer. She will be coming to Blighty from Lord Howe Island Central School and is an experienced principal of a TP2 school. She will commence duty at the beginning of the 2020 school year. I know that all members of the BPS community will make Mrs Hedt feel welcome as she takes on her new role! Kindergarten Transition Today, we held our first kinder transition day. We welcomed Jewel, Lachlan, David and Missa into the Kindergarten classroom! The year 2 class enjoyed a day with Mrs Webb for the transition into the 3-6 room. We still have three days left this term, our next day will be next Thursday 31st October. Please let Maree or Mrs Leetham know if you would like your child to attend. It’s almost SHOWTIME! Due to unforeseen circumstances, we have had to change the date of our upcoming school play. Our new proposed date is Wednesday 13th November, this will be confirmed in next weeks newsletter when we hear back from all outside agencies involved. Students will spend the whole day on Monday 11th November at the Blighty Hall. The bus will drop off and pick up students from the Hall on that day. We will rehearse and go through the running of the play with a full dress rehearsal. A working bee to set up the stage will be held on Sunday 10th November starting at 2 pm. We will meet at school at 2 pm, pack cars and trailers and then travel down to the Hall. Thank you to those families who have returned their note to let us know they can help. We are still seeking helpers, for both setting up and packing up on the day/night of the performance. The matinee will begin at 12.00 pm and our night time performance will be at 7.00 pm. Could students please be at the hall, no later than 6.50 pm. Thank you to all our parents and teachers who have assisted with costumes and ideas for props! P&C Meeting Thank you to those who were able to come along to the P&C meeting on Monday afternoon. The next P&C meeting will be our AGM, to be held on Monday 2nd December at 3:30 pm in the school library. All positions are declared vacant and nominations are then called for. Please speak to Sonia Frost or myself, if you would like more information. School Photos MSP will be here next Wednesday 30th October for school photos. Students are asked to please be dressed in their summer uniform on the day. Photos envelopes were sent home last week, please contact the school if you did not receive yours or it has been misplaced. Save the Date This year we are trialling a day time end of year presentation day, rather than a night-time event. This will occur on Monday 16th December starting at 10 am, followed by a BYO picnic lunch. With the end of year festivities, we understand how hectic this time can be and are hoping this will better cater to the needs of our students and allow all families to attend.

  • Stage 2 Writing Elephant Race

My heart was pounding; my legs were aching. Sweat ran over my head to my paws. I was coming first place but…

The ground shook – the sudden emotion made me jump. My head turned to a large greyhound with flappy ears and two dangerously large tusks. His trunk made a sound. A loud, skittish sound.

The finish line was right there- my paw tipped the end- but large grey legs crossed. I was shocked! The giant greyhound with flappy ears won. Ugh- second… again!

    At the Races

Bang! They’re off … but what’s this? One of the greyhounds has been replaced by what looks like an elephant.

They restart the race. Bang! The gun goes off again! SPLATTER KERSPURT SQUISH. One of the greyhounds has been squashed by Gigantor, the elephant. Crunch, one of the greyhounds bites Gigantor. Gigantor jumps … snap goes one of his tusks. He’s angry!

Gigantor sprints his second lap. He trips and the greyhounds overtake him. Suddenly, out of no-where, Gigantor thumps closer and closer and finally, he takes over the greyhounds. He’s nearly over the finish line. He’s first, by a tusk!
