PRINCIPAL’S REPORT School enrolments continue to increase. We now have 400 students enrolled at PNPS. Due to anticipated numbers for 2018, new demountables will be installed over the next 12 weeks. We are hoping to install the classrooms where it will have minimal impact on our school environment and maintain as much playground as possible. Grandparents Afternoon Tea and Concert 1/11/17 This is always a tremendous occasion. We look forward to grandparents joining us for afternoon tea on Wednesday, 1 November. This will commence at 2:00pm. ‘Star Performers Witnessed At PNPS Last Week!’ Congratulations students – a HUGE thank you to our community for supporting our Evening of Performing Arts. A special thank you to all the coordinating teachers, the CAPA committee and Miss Dodd for her overall brilliant coordination.

Deepavali Festival Excursion Some very lucky students represented our school at the Deepavali Festival once again. This was organised by the Australian Hindu Council and held at Martin Place. Ensure you read the student recounts in this edition. Thank you to Mrs Arora for providing this opportunity for the students and to Mrs Mehta for assisting on the day.

Happy Diwali to all our families who celebrated this festival last week. We look forward to our special Diwali Assembly on Friday.

Student Contributions Martin Pace Diwali Celebration Excursion Recounts Mohanish 6/5B- On 12.10.17 we went to Martin Place. We went walking, by bus and train. We did 2 songs then we sat about an hour and then we had pizzas and came home. It was the best day of my life. Ishita 6/5W- I liked the National Anthem. I loved the pizzas and I met a lot of new people. I knew some of the people as well. Yasin’s clothes looked wonderful. Yasin 6/5Y- I was being dressed up in Hindi costume which was my favourite. Jasmandeep 6/5B- Today we had a good experience. We went to Martin Place with our Hindi teacher. There were so many people. Today was my best day in Australia. Rushil 6/5W- “We had boarded the train to go to Wynyard and it was crammed so we had to stand up for the ride. We talked as we reached closer to Wynyard. Soon enough we had arrived at the station. After a while we had exited the maze of Wynyard station, we found our way to Martin Place. First we met up with Mrs Mala Mehta. She had started Hindi classes in 1987. We changed into our intricate and exquisite costumes. Everyone looked great. After having morning tea the show commenced. The hosts quickly addressed the audience. We were the first performance of the show. We first sang the Australian National Anthem, then we sang the Indian National anthem and we sang our Diwali song. We even got photos with Geoff Lee! We watched other performances and ate our lunch and pizzas. My Dad even came from his office to meet me. Then we left as we received our goodie bags and boarded the train. Krisha 6/5Y- On the 12th of October Ishita, Mohanish , Kananpreet , Jasmandeep, Yasin and I went to Martin Place for Diwali celebration. Our trip to there was quite settled. When we reached there we had to wait for some time. We sang the Australian and Indian National Anthem and then we sang the Diwali song with all the kids. The performances were very nice. We all looked so beautiful in our costumes especially Yasin. We got pizza for lunch and goody bags from Mrs Mala Mehta. We gave her a big thank you and left off. I had a great experience there and would like to thanks Mrs Arora and Mrs Mehta for supervising us.

Parramatta Light Rail Update The NSW Premier and the Minister for Transport and Infrastructure announced the nine kilometre preferred route for Parramatta Light Rail Stage 2. This will connect to Stage 1 and run north of the Parramatta River through the rapidly developing suburbs of Ermington, Melrose Park and Wentworth Point to Sydney Olympic Park, helping to connect people to this booming sport, entertainment and employment hub. This route is the best option as it achieves a fully integrated transport and land use plan for Greater Parramatta and the Olympic Peninsula, and connects directly with fast rail and future metro services to the Sydney CBD. Stage 2 will be further developed by consultation with the community and stakeholders. A Final Business Case for Stage 2 is expected to be completed in 2018, with an investment decision and details on the timing of construction to follow. The Environmental Impact Statement for Stage 1 of the project is on exhibition until 23 October. Expressions of Interest have been called to design and construct, supply, operate and maintain the network and light rail vehicles. Construction on Stage 1 is expected to start in 2018, pending planning approval, with light rail to begin operating in 2023. More information about Parramatta Light Rail, including the preferred route for Stage 2, is available at http://www.parramattalightrail.nsw.gov.au/
