LABOUR DAY PUBLIC HOLIDAY THIS MONDAY 11TH MARCH

Due the labour day public holiday there is no school this Monday 11th March.

SCHOOL COUNCIL PARENT NOMINEES

This year we had 6 positions available for School Council Parent representatives.

I would like to congratulate Liam Bantock, Freya Mair, Kerren Cake, Tenielle Ryan and Jodie

Glen on their re-election to School Council.

Congratulations to our new school council parent member Kara Willis.

The role of parents on school council are extremely important in the running of our school.

The school council has particular functions in setting and monitoring the school’s direction.

School council members have three main responsibilities:

Finance: overseeing the development of the school’s annual budget and ensuring proper records are kept

of the school’s financial operation

Strategic planning: participating in the development and monitoring of the school strategic plan

Policy development and review: developing, reviewing and updating policies that reflect the school’s

values and support the school’s broad direction outlined in its strategic plan.

Other key functions of school councils include:

Raising funds for school related purposes

Maintaining school grounds and facilities

Entering into contracts

Reporting annually to the school community and the Department

Creating interest in the school in the wider community

Representing and taking the views of the community into account

Regulating and facilitating after-hours use of school premises and grounds

Next School Council meeting is Tuesday 12th March at 7:00pm.

GIPPSLAND REGIONAL CRICKET CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE The Latrobe Shire will soon be commencing the construction of the Gippsland Regional Crick of Excellence

Centre. The centre will be located next to the school oval where the playground and BBQ shelter was. These

structures have started to be removed ready for the construction of the centre.

This is going to be a fantastic facility for Moe and all of Gippsland. It will include indoor training facilities and new

outdoor turf training wickets. (A map is on the notice board near Mr Tactor’s Office)

Construction of the main building will begin in the coming months. This will affect the Vale St entrance into the

car park. This entrance will be closed during construction. Further information will be provided on restrictions

when we are notified by the contractors and Latrobe Shire.

At School Council last week the implementation of a South St Primary School Facebook Page was discussed.

The aim of developing a Facebook page is to promote real time information to our school community, celebrate great things at South St and student achievements. This will be a great way for information to be distributed to families and the school

community. We are finding Snippets does not seem to reach all families. We are in a changing world where social media is a way to

connect.

Before the page goes live we need to finalise the policy (a draft copy is available from the office and is also available in the foyer near Mr Tactor’s office if you would like to read it), send out approval for photos to go on Facebook and user

expectations. This is to ensure the page is used appropriately and safely.

In the policy we have strict steps where we will be able to moderate or block users who do not comply with the

expectations (see Policy).

If you would like any further information or you have any questions please see Mr Tactor.

IS COMING!!
