PRINCIPALS MESSAGE

Gulgong Public School is looking at Before and After school care to provide further opportunities for our students and families.

To get this up and running we need parents to have their say on this. Please see below and follow the link to have your say.

Have Your Say on Before and

After School CareThe NSW Government is committed to providing before and after school care to all students of public primary schools in New South Wales. As part of the reform, a parent web form has been established by Service NSW that will enable parents to tell the department about their specific care needs and to stay up to date with any new developments.

The information provided by parents will help theDepartment of Education to understand your needs, give them insights into where there are gaps in service delivery and help to ensure the extra places are delivered where they are required.

Have you say today athttps://www.service.nsw.gov.au/basc.

Generosity is a word we don't use very often nowadays, however on this occasion it is a very accurate reflection on our community.

The generosity shown by our student's and the Gulgong community is outstanding. The Spellathon that we are holding tomorrow has raised $2231 for Mia O'Dwyer and her family. This money will go directly to her family to help our brave little girl fight her cancer battle.

I would like to personally thank all those parents, brothers, sisters, grandparents, neighbours and shop owners who donated money to this worthwhile cause and Mrs Lewis who organised the Spellathon. I know the O'Dwyer family are very thankful for the support.

This Spellathon has also given our students the opportunity to show their spelling skills and tomorrow we will find out who the top 4 spellers from each stage group are. Parents are most welcome to come along and watch their children spell their words. Each of the winners of their stages will receive a $20 voucher to Stacks store in town. We look forward to seeing who our top spellers are.

This Thursday our Year 5 and 6 students also have the opportunity to participate in a Girls Shine and Boys Rock day. This is designed to allow students to see future careers as well as how to look after their changing bodies. It includes fitness and Pilates sessions and hygiene and wellbeing talks.

Last Wednesday Year 5 and 6 students from Mr Haney's class got to complete their projects making Carbon Dioxide powered dragsters.

This involved them going over to the High School and using their bandsaws and drill presses to cut and drill their cars in the Industrial Technology rooms.

They then had to sand their cars to a nice smooth finish to reduce the drag and allow their car to travel faster. The students really enjoyed making their cars and the opportunity to see the High School where they will be in 1-2 years time.

We would like to thank Mr Johnson from the High School for giving up his time to help our students make their dragsters.

ATTENDANCE

We at Gulgong Public School want our students, your children, to get a great education and the building blocks for a great education begin with students coming to school each day and every day.

If students miss school reqularly, they miss out on learning the fundamental skills that will set them up for success in the later years of school.

There is no safe number of days for missing school - each day a student misses, puts them behind and can affect their educational outcomes.

Each missed day is associated with progressively lower achievement in numeracy, writing and reading.

All this said we do, however, acknowledge with current sickness across the grades that students stay at home to recuperate and also to prevent the infection of other students, but we need to communicate that outside of illness, families need to be aware of absent days from school and the impact this may have on students.

ABSENCE FROM SCHOOL

Students must attend school every day. Whenever this is not posssible a note signed by the parent or guardian, giving the date and reason for the absence, must be presented to the class teacher as soon as the student returns to school.

LATE TO SCHOOL

School begins at 9.25am each day and to maximise the learning opportunities for your child, it is important that they arrive prior to this time.

We fully understand that this is not always possible and at times, you may arrive late to school.

If your child does arrive late they are to report to the School Office to record details in the Late Register.

The parent/caregiver should accompany the student to explain the partial absence.

If the student is unacconpanied on arrival, the abesence is recorded as an Unexplained Absence.
