PRINCIPALS MESSAGE

Last week, I attended a conference for Principals in Sydney based on Student Centred Leadership.

This conference detailed ways in which students could have a voice in the school and ways in which Principals could ensure that students are at the centre of every decision we make.

I thought this was very timely as Gulgong is starting an SRC (Student Representative Council) this week.

This will involve 2 students from each class being represented to voice the opinions of their class to the Captains and Prefects. These students will then be able to bring their ideas to the executive meetings and P&C meetings so that we ensure students are heard and valued in our school.

We are also encouraging students to be Resilient in the playground and this week in the classroom.

Last week we saw examples of this with senior students organising games of Touch football for younger students and teaching them the rules as they went. Today I asked Lilli Waters and Lucas Dowd what they thought Resilience in the classroom looked like and they replied, not giving up, trying our best and learning from our mistakes.

This is what good learners do. I was also very encouraged when walking past classrooms to see teachers and students speaking about being resilient and what a good learner looked like in the class. It is great to hear students from our great school speaking about these things.

Principal

Henry Drury teaching some infant's students how to play touch footy at recess. Henry came to the infants' assembly to make an announcement and had this little group running today.

2H have been learning about the ANZACsoldiers and the difficulties they faced at the battleof Gallipoli. Along with the other Stage 1 classes, we visited ANZAC Park in Gulgong. We’ve read lots of books, including ANZAC Ted, and imagined we were ANZAC soldiers writing letters home to our families explaining what it is like living in the trenches at Gallipoli.
