Tom Savage, an engineer in the American NASA program,
described himself as the man who pressed the button to
launch space rockets. As NASA winds down its program,
Tom is one of the personnel involved who is able to now talk
about their experiences. As a friend of David Reneke who
has been involved in the Port Macquarie Astronomical Group
for many years, Tom has given Wauchope High this unique
opportunity to have a look at the workings of NASA.
Hastings Council and Youth Services Providers (see page
2), joined to create an energetic fair where students
accessed information about many issues that impact on
their lives. There were a number of opportunities for
them to voice their opinions about what they see as the
future for Wauchope.
20 - 20 Cricket
Wauchope High boys headed off to cricket 20-20
cricket this week, a game where team plays
twenty overs.
WHS won against Port High in the first game
but after much challenging play, lost against St
Pauls High School. Year 10 student Nick Cutler
completed two fifties during the day in an
outstanding effort.

ENERGETIC DAY FOR YOUTH
FORUM
Amongst workshops and stalls, students at Wauchope High
feasted on an enormous volume of information that could help
their lives. After a dance workshop run by Travers Ross, a
choreographer who has featured on So You Think You Can
Dance, the day ended with a spectacular demonstration of
dance with most of the school forming an audience.
The Youth Network Providers who were in attendance on the
day are thanked by the Wauchope School community.

ANOTHER LAST FOR YEAR 12
Year 12 ticked off another ‘last’ for the year, when
they attended the school social and were making
the most of it with some creative dancing and
much socialising. These students are entering
the final leg of their approach to the Higher
School Certificate and the end of their schooling,
so are enjoying moments like these.
Some of these students have been long time
members of the SRC who are the main body that
organise the social and many other important
events including fundraising at the school. Their
c o n t r i b u t i o n s w i l l b e m i s s e d .
Renowned for their unique nature, the Wauchope
High socials bring out the best of students in a
friendly and safe environment.
An exciting series of games were played at
the CHS Zone Basketball Knock out re-
cently where the girls team defeated their
first two competitors Camden Haven High
and Melville High, only to be defeated by
Port Macquarie High in the final round. The
boys also played well with some excellent
team work.

Over a period of three weeks, 7 Science 1 learned that the only way to solve a crime was to thoroughly sift through the
evidence, work as a team and communicate by listening to each other. Even though the group was a whole class, the level
of interaction and cooperation at the end of three weeks was a pleasure to see as they solved the Murder under the
Microscope competition designed by NSW Department of Education and Training. The groups correctly name both the
crime scene and the victim, but changed their mind from the correct villain at the last moment on considering new evidence.
Well done for an amazing effort!
