FIND OUT ABOUT HOW NAZ INSPIRES THE NEXT GENERATION OF YOUNG TALENTHow long have you been working at Southall Waterside?
I have been working with Berkeley for a number of years and have been part of the Southall Waterside team for approximately a year.
What are you currently working on?
I am responsible for providing work experience placements and apprenticeships at Southall Waterside. As such, I am currently working closely with Berkeley’s trade partners and local secondary schools to raise awareness of the on-site WLCA (West London Construction Academy) – one of the first purpose-built construction academies in the UK.
What is the most interesting part of your job?
Without a doubt, the most interesting part of my job is visiting local secondary schools and providing site visits to Southall Waterside. It is fascinating to watch the young people flourish in a practical learning environment and not just confined to a classroom. We are able to provide on-the-job experience – giving them a real taste for the opportunities available, many of which they were not aware of.
What do you like most about working in Southall?
The mix of people. There is a real sense of community with all different cultures and backgrounds coming together. I love the fact that I am playing a positive part in the future of Southall. I hope that I can inspire local people into the industry and help them create and build part of their community.

National Road Safety Week
Festive Celebrations Welcome
The fantastic work of Kian Cleere was celebrated at the Berkeley Group Apprentice Awards when he was crowned Best Plumbing Apprentice. Kian, 20, works on-site for H2O.
This win shows the success that people can achieve through industry-focused training programmes and came on the day that marked one year since the opening of the West London Construction Academy (WLCA) at Southall Waterside.
Southall Waterside Apprentice Scoops Industry Award
To tie in with National Road Safety Week, we visited three Southall primary schools, engaging with over 1,000 local school children to provide a day of interactive workshops and classes to teach them about staying safe as cyclists and pedestrians.
As well as providing road safety and awareness tips, the pupils learnt about the benefits of sustainable journeys such as walking and cycling.
We are delighted to have raised over £85,000 for our designated charity, Hope for Southall Street Homeless (HSSH).
The most recent donation was handed over at our Christmas celebration which saw nearly 200 people from the local community come and join in the festivities at Southall Waterside.
To spread the Christmas cheer, members of an on-site contractor sung carols from Southall station to Southall Waterside, collecting donations along the way. The event included festive mince pies, hot drinks and carols from local school children. Younger guests also had the chance to meet Santa. To wrap up the festivities, a local bhangra dancing group taught some moves to the crowd before finishing with a bhangra dance performance to some classic Christmas songs.
