Page 2: Telica Mission Trip

We were here.

Telica

Page 3: Telica Mission Trip

Excitement builds as we get closer to our destination!

Page 4: Telica Mission Trip

Grateful to have safely arrived.

Page 5: Telica Mission Trip

Settling into our new home.

Page 6: Telica Mission Trip

My bed for the next 12 days.

Page 7: Telica Mission Trip

The women’s residence slowly became central head quarters.

Downtown Telica

Page 10: Telica Mission Trip

Always strange to see a Christmas tree, where there is no snow!

Page 11: Telica Mission Trip

A typical scene on the roads in Telica

Page 12: Telica Mission Trip

A typical scene on the side of the road, between Telica and the city, León.

Page 13: Telica Mission Trip

Las tiendas de León.

Page 14: Telica Mission Trip

Los mercados estan en todos partes de León.

Page 15: Telica Mission Trip

Another typical scene in León.

Page 16: Telica Mission Trip

Roosters are not only seen all over, but heard all over...at 1:00 AM!

In Spanish this is called a gallo pinto...

Page 17: Telica Mission Trip

That’s also the name of the national dish, which is beans and rice.

...and you have it everyday...breakfast, lunch AND dinner!

Page 18: Telica Mission Trip

Many a day was spent shopping in León.

When building houses in 90° F heat people need LOTS of water!

Page 19: Telica Mission Trip

On the road back to Telica. Facing the volcano (volcan) with the same name.

Page 20: Telica Mission Trip

A New Year’s Eve tradition...the burning of the old man.

Page 21: Telica Mission Trip

No New Year’s celebration would be complete without fireworks in the street!

Page 22: Telica Mission Trip

Celebrating New Years Day with surf, sun and...

Page 23: Telica Mission Trip

...dancing!! Baile!!

Page 24: Telica Mission Trip

After the celebration...back to work.

Page 25: Telica Mission Trip

This morning’s workout...sifting sand! Burns at least 20 calories.

Page 26: Telica Mission Trip

Mercedes and Teresa (the owners of the new homes) showing off the puppies.

Page 27: Telica Mission Trip

Mother and all seven of her children!

Page 28: Telica Mission Trip

...and these are Mercedes beautiful daughters. If you look behind them, you will see where they were living before we built their new home.

Page 29: Telica Mission Trip

In Nicaragua, an education means a brighter future. Something families take very seriously, but not for granted!

Page 30: Telica Mission Trip

One of the most important parts of the mission; getting children ready and able, to attend school.

Page 31: Telica Mission Trip

And celebrating their accomplishments.

Page 32: Telica Mission Trip

Week Two: The beginning of Vacation Bible School

Page 33: Telica Mission Trip

A scroll of hands to show people back in the U.S all the children who attended VBS.

Page 34: Telica Mission Trip

Each morning began with skits. This is the story of Jesus healing a blind man. Apparently before Jesus came along...

Page 35: Telica Mission Trip

...an unsuccessful healer tried stickers!

Page 36: Telica Mission Trip

We played lots of games, like kickball, which the kids loved!

Page 37: Telica Mission Trip

As with any game, there are winners, and there are good sports willing to graciously accept a loss!!

Page 38: Telica Mission Trip

Overall, we had FUN, good spirits, and most importantly, snack!!

Page 39: Telica Mission Trip

Friday, we celebrated with a FIESTA! (she had a really good time!!)

Page 40: Telica Mission Trip

Friday also saw the final touches on some of the houses.

Page 41: Telica Mission Trip

Everyone who lent a hand on the house building including the recipients of the new homes.

Page 42: Telica Mission Trip

The blessing of the houses.

Page 43: Telica Mission Trip

A very moving, spirit filled, house blessing.

Page 44: Telica Mission Trip

Saturday, time to say, “Nos vemos en dos años,” because...

Page 45: Telica Mission Trip

...it was too hard to say, “goodbye!”

Page 46: Telica Mission Trip

Left Telica to spend two days at a resort by the beach.

Page 47: Telica Mission Trip

Roughest two days of the whole trip!

Page 48: Telica Mission Trip

Monday morning, 4:45 AM. A quiet bus ride to the Managua Airport.

And dreams of home.

Thank you for sharing in one of the most

profound, transformative

moments of my entire life.

God’s peace,Kristin
