NOTES:-
Boreholes required to have quality data for consideration of
the borehole densities for classification purposes.
Minimum seam height of 0.5m applied for GTIS.
The Waterberg coal typically occurs interlaminated with
shale, which is difficult to separate during the logging and
sampling process. Therefore, in order to calculate the
tonnage of coal in each zone, rather than the tonnage of the
zone including the rock, each zone was washed at an
RD=1.9 to remove the rock. The zone tonnage was
multiplied by the percent yield (by mass) to derive the coal
tonnage. Note that the coal tonnage has a lower RD than
the zone tonnage, in most cases.

REGIONAL GEOLOGY EXPLORATION
The Waterberg Coalfield is located west of Lephalale in the Limpopo Province
of South Africa, and also extends westwards into Botswana. It has vast in situ
resources of coal stratigraphically subdivided into a Lower Coal Sequence and
an Upper Coal Sequence. The Lower Coal Sequence is comprised of discrete
units of coal named sequentially from the base upwards, as Zones 1, 2, 3, 4A
and 4. The Upper Coal Zone is less well defined, extensively mixed with clays
and other mineral matter, and is named sequentially from Zone 5 upwards to
Zone 11. These zones are interlaminated with carbonaceous mudstone,
siltstone with minor sandstone layers at the base. As a result the coal yields
from these zones are low.
Several major faults occur within the coalfield with throws of up to 300m. These
have divided the field into as series of distinct blocks, with some upfaulted
blocks experiencing the removal of the upper coal zones, . by weathering
Both the Lower and Upper Coal Sequences are present within Sekoko's Waterberg Project, to varying extents. Significant structures are present with the amount
of fault related disturbances increasing towards the south. There is a dominant east/west fault direction with fault throws varying from 10m in the north to as much
as 130m in the south. The presence of the zones is directly related to the faulting and the subsequent erosion of the upper zones in the southern farms.
LOCAL GEOLOGY
Historical boreholes were obtained from the Council from Geoscience's drilling
database for an initial assessment of the potential of the area. Between 2007 st
and 2008, Sekoko drilled and sampled additional boreholes. As at 1
November 2009, 178 boreholes were available, with 82 of these having quality
results. All boreholes were logged and sampled by suitably qualified
independent geologists.

DATA CAPTURE
OREBODY MODELLING
RESOURCE CALCULATION CLASSIFICATION
The modelled coal isopachs for each of the zones, for all the farms comprising
the Waterberg Project, are illustrated in the figures overleaf.
As described in the geology section above, the coal zones are extensively
interlaminated with primarily shales and mudstones. Therefore, in order to
identify the coal resource only within the zone, a wash at an RD=1.9 was
carried out on the samples. This effectively removed the rock fraction from the
coal.
All coal resources were categorised using the SAMREC Code and the SANS
10320:2004 method of classification for thick interbedded coal deposits. The
SANS scheme utilises the distance between boreholes as the defining factor
between the classification of Measured, Indicated and Inferred Resources and
Reconnaissance occurrences, as per the following table:-
This scheme is to be applied only to those boreholes which have quality data.
According to SANS, coal is to be quoted according to the following definitions:-

All borehole logs and laboratory results were captured into a Sable Software database. Standard data verification exercises were carried out by the company in
order to validate the data.
Orebody modelling was carried out by Sound
Mining Solutions (Pty) Ltd (SMS) under the

The borehole additional information has enabled the modelling of Zones 6-11 in the south to be carried out separately. Multigrade estimations were performed on
un-faulted blocks in Datamine, using a process called Estima, using all the boreholes with quality data. The only cut-off applied to the coal was 0.5m minimum
thickness limit, as required by SANS. A wireframe for each zone was created and in-filled in Datamine to from a block model. The block size was set at a miximum
of 100m x 100m x zone height. Further details of the modelling can be found in SMS's report.

The modelled volume of the zone (coal and rock) was multiplied by the coal
yield percentage (@ RD=1.9) in order to calculated the volume of coal. This
coal volume was then multiplied by the density of the coal (@ RD=) in order to
derive the coal tonnage or Gross Tonnes in Situ. This coal tonnage was finally
reduced by the geological losses to obtain the Total Tonnes in Situ. The
geological losses were selected based upon the density of the drilling and the
structures within the area in question. The classification was based strictly
upon search radii from the boreholes according to the SANS specifications.
The classification by zone for the farms is illustrated in the figures to follow.

The additional drill and laboratory results have been included into the Datamine model and this model has been updated accordingly. This has enabled the
upgrading of the resource classification in certain areas, with particular reference to 87Mt of Measured Resources on Smitspan. The modified model has resulted
in a decrease in tonnage on some farms. Vetleegte, Swanepoelpan and Duikerfontein have been included in the 3d Datamine model for the first time and these
have contributed 416Mt to the resource statement.
