What are ‘Have a Go’ taster sessions?Get a taste of what college life islike with Peterborough RegionalCollege!

We know that making the choiceabout what to do next can be atough decision. With many courses tochoose from this can become overwhelming, but we’re here tohelp!

With our taster sessions you can havea go at interactive activities from different courses to see what is rightfor you.

There will also be a range of pre-course guidance, student welfareinformation and financial advice available to help support you.

These activities will run from Monday 15th to Wednesday 17thFebruary and are FREE to participatein!

Who are the tasters available to?The tasters are open to all, but aremore popular among students fromYear 9 - Year 13 who have decisionsto make about their next step. Youcan already be a student at college,or be in the working world. So longas you are willing to try somethingnew, you are welcome to attend!

What areas can I do a taster in?You can do taster sessions in a wide variety of areas across the College including:

Am I only allowed to do one taster?No! You can do as many taster sessions as you like! (Providing that they do not run at the same time).

Monday 15 FebruaryMEDIA - Studio Workshops10am - 12 noonIf you are interested in TV, film, radio or audio, this taster session will be for you! You’ll bein the studio creating a programme using professional equipment. You will also workalongside current students as crew.

ART - Still Life Drawing10am - 11am, 11:30am - 12:30pm and 1pm - 2pmAn introduction to large scale observational drawing using easels and a variety ofmedia.

COMPUTING - IOT Enterprise & Introduction to Physical Computing10am - 11:20amThis session will show how innovation is within your grasp and inspire the nextgeneration of Technological gadgetry. We will also introduce you to proceduralprogramming and building gadgets that interact with the physical environment.

SPORT - Lets Get Physical!10am - 12pmYou will be coached by current students at a variety of sports and be put through yourpaces on different tests including psychological personality.

PERFORMING ARTS - Which mask will you wear?1pm - 3pmUsing games and improvisation you will learn the techniques used to bring the half-masks to life! Creating silly scenes inhabited by some very interesting characters, thistaster session is a lot of fun! Come and see for yourself!

Tuesday 16 FebruaryENGINEERING - Turning and Milling9am - 12 noonA basic introduction to centre lathe turning. This will give you a taste of machining and show you how it can be made into a career.

ENGINEERING - Computer Aided Design9am - 10:30am or 10:30am - 12 noonYou will learn about the infinite design possibilities of CAD, then you will use CAD tocreate precision 3D parts using Autodesk Inventor 2015 software.

ENGINEERING - Electronic Circuit Construction9am - 10:30am or 10:30am - 12 noonAn introduction into constructing and testing electronic circuits. You will have theopportunity to construct a circuit which can be used to test appliance fuses. Ideal forlearners interested in Electrical/Electronic engineering pathways.

MOTOR VEHICLE - Vehicle Maintenance9am – 12 noonThis session will show you how to do basic winter and summer checks on a car includingtyres and wheels.

CONSTRUCTION - Basic Plumbing Skills9am - 12 noonThis session will provide you with an introduction to the key plumbing skills that you are likely to need for basic jobs around the house.

HOSPITALITY & CATERING - Plan and Cook Lunch9:30am - 12:30pmCome and cook up your own lunch in our AA College Rosette restaurant! Improve yourcooking skills with our state of the art kitchens. Are you a future chef? Come and find out!

HEALTH & SOCIAL CARE - Nutrition and Vital Signs of Health9:30am - 10:30amAn interactive session which will introduce students to the nutritional requirements atdifferent life stages .It will hopefully make them question their own dietary intake andwhat it means for their health and wellbeing.

ANIMAL CARE - Checking & Handling Animals10am - 12 noonLearn how to safely handle animals such as snakes, tarantulas, chameleons, rabbits,guinea pigs and chinchillas. You will also turn your hands to professionally healthchecking animals.

BUSINESS ADMIN - Test Your Customer Service10am - 10:40am, 12 noon - 12:40pm or 3pm - 3:40pmTest your proof reading and customer service skills, take part in ‘PRC Spelling Bee’ andfind out some tricks of the trade in this taster session.

HAIRDRESSING - Lee Stafford Highlighting Technique10am - 11am or 11am - 12 noonLearn how to highlight the Lee Stafford way! Did you know we’re one of three collegesin the UK in partnership with Lee Stafford? You will also get the chance to observe a realworking salon with apprentices at the College.

SCIENCE - Blood Spatter and Food Test10am - 12 noonYou will test different food samples for proteins, sugars and starch using differentreagents. With the blood spatter experiment, you will measure the length and width ofthe spatter to determine the distance from the crime scene - very CSI!

PUBLIC SERVICES - Introduction to Public Services10am - 11am or 11am - 12 noonHave a go at map reading and start to think like a soldier. You will also participate inteam building activities.

COMPUTING - Building Mobile Applications10am - 12pm or 2pm - 4pmThis taster session aims to provide you with a taste of how mobile applications aredesigned and developed.

CONSTRUCTION - Basic Electrical Skills1pm - 4pmThis session will provide you with an introduction to key electrical skills.

What do I do now?Once you have had a look at the ‘Have a Go’ taster sessions on offer and decided on those you want to take part in, all you have to do is fill in the booking form on the back of this booklet with the details about the taster session you would like to do, along with your contact details. Once you havefilled this in, you can detach it from the booklet and send it back to us free of charge!

Alternatively you can email your name, contact details and the details of thetaster session you would like to participate in to: [email protected]

Once we have received your form, we will send you a confirmation letter/emailwith further details about the taster session, and let you know whether you willneed to bring anything with you.

All you need to do then is turn up to your taster session and take part!

Don’t forget that by taking part you could be in with a chance of winning abrand new Samsung Galaxy Tablet or a pair of Beats by Dre headphones!

The prize winner will be selected at random and notified by Friday 11th March 2016. The winner’s name will be available on request after this date.
