Evaluation Task 1

In what ways does my media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media product?

Page 2: Task 1 in what ways does my media product

Hiding under the table The Sixth Sense

Home alone

The character from the sixth sense and home alone are both children who are scared and are hiding under tables, similarly Isabella is hiding under a table from a ‘monster’ in fear.

My thriller action shot bellow

The shot from my thriller sequence has captured different aspects from the pictures above, the camera is on the same level as the floor and I am lying in the same position as the woman in the black shirt. The actors in these photos have got fake blood on there faces, we were going to apply fake blood but then we thought it would ruin the shot as it may have been just a little to much

Closing into the scene

The build up of a Sense of Isolation the audience is already subconsciously appreciating that any problems will be hightoned because there is no one around to help.

Loneliness

Vs.

There is no one to be seen in both of the bellow, there is complete isolation. In my opening sequence there is no action with humans until the very end , this creates tension because if someone is now in trouble then there is no one around to help them.

Lighting Our thriller sequence isn't like a typical thriller, in a way that our thriller was shot during broad day light . We didn’t need the darkness to create a mysterious eerie feeling, we used establishing shots of woods, lakes, and lanes to create an on edge feeling. Most thrillers have to have dark lighting as it has connotations of murder and unexpected actions.

My thriller Rear windows

Rear windows doesn’t have any mysterious shots of woods as it was set in the city and you can see in the picture above the difference there is shooting in day light and a darker light.

Lighting Scream

Scream was also shot inside a house but was shot during the night, there are many aspects very similar to my opening title thriller such as she is in the house alone just like the two girls.

In both the thrillers there is something left either cooking or boiling. This adds to the tension.

My thriller

A shot of the outside the house at night

We have put the blinds down in the kitchen to try and make the room seem darker

Jump scare My thriller

The grudge

The suspense in the grudge sequence builds for much longer than in my thriller as the director has decided to follow the character showing the expressions on her face and he is subconsciously hinting to us that she isn’t alone. In the thriller I created it has the same out come as the grudge, a jump scare, but to create the suspense we have used many establishing shots.

It isn't clear in this photoBut she is being draggedup the cupboard.

TITLESThe title we chose is very similar to those on the left hand side. We chose to keep a simple black background and white text, this was because as you can see on the right hand side the top to pictures have a different colour back ground and it just distracts the audiences eyes from the name of the film. The simpler the text the better as it stands out more. We chose white text over red because red has connotations of death, violence and blood, this may either give away the fact it’s a very detailed horror movie and prevent people from watching.
