    TARPORLEY PARISH COUNCILNEWSLETTER

WE are expecting there to be two, if not three, important consultation events in the village

during January. We would urge everyone to look out for them and either to go along to have

your say or to write in. Watch out for notices on the village notice board by the entrance to St

Helens Church, and yers delivered through your door.

One of the events will be about the development of the

Brook Farm site and the land opposite for outdoor sports

facilities for the village. The other will be about the

creation of a village square, adjacent to High Street,by the northern entrance to St Helens churchyard

and the access road to the Done Room.

We understand that the planning application

for the land off High Street, known as the

Daffodil Field, is to be re-submitted to the

Council soon. The Parish Council objected to

the rst application, and we understand in this

second application, the developers have tried to

address some of the objections. Anyone wishing

to comment on this second application must writein, even if they wrote in about the rst one. This is

considered as a new application and comments are not

    carried forward.

    Broadband

Moves to roll-out superfast broadband to homes and businesses in Cheshire are a step

closer with the announcement, at the end of November, of money from the EU. To make sure

that Tarporley doesnt miss out on this development, we need to show there is a demand

for superfast broadband locally. So please register with Connecting Cheshire at www.

connectingcheshire.org.uk. It takes just a matter of minutes. Thanks.Lights

We would like to thank everyone for attending the Christmas Lights event under the chestnut

tree at the end of November. The children from the Primary School sang so well and Father

Christmas was very popular. Thanks too to the many people and businesses who made the

event such a success, and to those who helped decorate High Street with its many Christmas

    trees and lights.

And nally, may we on the Parish Council wish you a very prosperous and successful 2013.

P.S. We have just heard that a decision about the appeal by Fox Strategic Land and

Property Ltd regarding their planning application for 100 houses on the land off NantwichRoad has been delayed until late January 2013. The original decision date was on or before

    December 19th 2012.

More lie savers in TattenhallA SUCCESSFUL programme of Heartstart

training to the general public has been

running in Tattenhall over the last few

months resulting in 60 people so far being

trained in this potentially life saving skill

The initiative is a community collaboration

between The Studio in Tattenhall and the

Tattenhall First Responders where a 3 hour

    workshop is run every month

    training a maximum of

    12 people at a time

    to ensure that

    everyone is able

    to participate inthe exercises

    and receive

    individual

    feedback.

    The

    Heartstart

    scheme

    has been

    developed

    by the BritsihHeart Foundation

    to provide free

    Emergency Life

    Support (ELS) training in

    the community and schools. The

scheme is aimed at the public and anyone

from the age of ten upwards can attend and

learn the complete range of ELS skills. To

date 2.6 million people have been trained

through Heartstart. The Heartstart programme includes skills

    such as:

    l assessing an unconscious patient

    l performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation

    (CPR)

    l dealing with choking

    l dealing with serious bleeding

l helping someone who may be having a

    heart attack.

Knowing what to do when someone hasa cardiac arrest is important. If you can

do CPR you can buy the time needed for

professional help to arrive and save the life

of your loved one. Being able to do CPR

more than doubles their chance of survival.

The Heartstart course is designed to follow

    the current Resuscitation Council (UK)

    guidelines.

Jill Raine, from The Studio, and Rob

    Selby, from the Tattenhall

    First Responders, have

    been overwhelmed

    by the response

    to the initiative

    as all thecourses so

    far have

    been fully

    booked as

    are all the

    courses up

    until May

    2013.

    Jill

    said: Thefeedback from

    participants on

    the training has been

    universally positive and

its encouraging to see so many

people wanting to learn this essential skill.

We would like to see this initiative spread to

    more local communities in Cheshire.

Although the training is provided free of

charge, any donations to Tattenhall FirstResponders are gratefully received and

used to support the continuing work of this

    valuable community asset.

Please contact Jill on 01829 771895 if

you would like to book on the next available

course or Rob Selby on 07792 885260 if

you are a member of a First Responders

group and would like to receive training on

    how to deliver the course.

    Challenge, climbing Ben Nevis

    in Scotland, Scafell Pike in

    the Lake District and Mount

    Snowdon in Wales all within

    24 hours.

    The seven climbers and two

    drivers successfully completed

the challenge in 23 hours 50

minutes, so with 10 minutes tospare, but ultimately achieved

    their goal.

    They were motivated to

complete this in a bid to

    support the Tarporley War

    Memorial Hospital who have

    treated a number of relatives

and friends - their continued commitment to care is highly commendable and all of the men

taking part wanted to raise vital funds to help with the refurbishment of patient rooms.

In support of their efforts they carried out a number of fundraising events and received

sponsorship and donations from a number of local people and businesses from both Tarvin

and Tarporley. They raised a total of 8342.84 which we was presented to Tarporley War

    Memorial Hospital last month.

Fund raising co-ordinator Julie Leach said: The Tarvin Three Peaks Challenge team

would like to give special thanks to all of the local businesses who provided prizes or

sponsorship, and for all of the generous donations given by everyone, we are truly touched

by the magnicent support we have received - This certainly motivated the climbers to

successfully complete the challenge, and the money we have raised has surpassed all of

    our expectations.

Humbug, h thoht Scrooe, as another

    year drew to a close.

The world was clearly going quite mad, the ghost ofChristmas past (a Mr Mervyn King) had gobbled upall those government bonds using something calledquantitative easing and now Scrooge was getting next tono interest on his coffers. This was not a happy state ofaffairs.

The spirit of Christmas present, George Osborne wanted

External heat and cold had little influence on scrooge,no warmth could warm and no wintry weather chill him,

but even he couldnt fail to feel the effects of inflation

on the rare moments when he had to dig into his funds.Christmas Past kept offering painful reminders of what heused to get for his sovereign.

Low interest rates, high inflation and even higher taxesweighed down heavily on scrooge, as of course they dowith us all.

Now Scrooge had a nephew, who had visited that veryday, come said the nephew gaily, what right have you to

be dismal, what reason have you to be morose, youre rich

enough. Rich enough, raged Scrooge, hed recently beenvisited by the ghost of Christmas future, and what he sawfilled him with fear. Words and phrases like, workplacepension, capital gains tax and inheritance tax, swam beforehim, he had looked into the future and seen the cost ofcare swallowing up his fortune, of all the Spectres he had

been visited by, Scrooge feared this one more than anyother.

Uncle exclaimed the nephew, the purpose of the ghostof Christmas future is to do you good, if only you willlisten. Change your ways now, Christmas Past may be thereason for your meagre interest, but seek the alternatives, seek wisely though, and ask for advice. George willdoubtless take all he can, but with the help of Christmasfuture, you can make sure he takes less than he would

consider his due.Scrooge looked at this nephew who was always saying

such things. Perhaps it was time to listen and learn fromthe ghosts, his current course foretold of certain ends,

to which if pursued they would undoubtedly lead, butcourses can be departed from and the ends will change. Itwas time to listen, to perhaps learn, and to act.

Road at Tarporley at the end of November. It is believed that the car ipped onto its roof

    leaving the driver trapped inside.

    Unwanted bikes or Arica

THIS January, the Rotary Club of Tarporley is supporting the campaign to collect unwanted

bikes for shipment to Africa. They are doing this in association with the Rotary-supported

charity Jole Rider (http://jolerider.org) and their Bikes4Africa campaign to make the

journey to education possible for thousands of children.

Therefore, if you have an unwanted bike, suitable for children (- aged about nine years

and upwards; bikes with 20 or 24 wheels are best, though 20 BMX-type bikes can be

suitable) then please let them have it. You can deliver the bikes to The Rotary Club on the

morning of Saturday 12th January at Beeston Market. Alternatively, they can arrange for

the bikes to be collected from you. However, if you take advantage of this service, a smalldonation (e.g. 5) towards the charitys transportation costs to Africa would be very much

    appreciated.

    Q. I often use face wipes to cleanse my skin. Is this ok or should

    I use a cleanser?

    A. Apart from occasional use, I never advocate the use of

face wipes. Firstly, many of them contain harsh ingredients

such as alcohol which is not a good ingredient for your skin.

Secondly, wipes are often used too aggressively on the skin

and the regular rough treatment can adversely affect the

elastin bres leading to premature skin sagging. Finally,

it is rare that a wipe will fully cleanse your skin and any

skin therapist will tell you that a thorough cleansing ritualis the corner stone to good skin care. If your skin

is not thoroughly cleansed any products you apply

afterwards will be less effective which is a waste

of money. For my top tips on the perfect cleansing

routine visit the January newsletter page of our

    website www.angelabartlett.co.uk

    Q. Can facial exercises prevent skin ageing?

A.Facial exercises aim to tone muscles, but skin

ageing is far more complex than loss of muscle

tone. Factors such as the loosening of the

facial ligaments that holds the muscles in place,

movement of fat pads, loss of skin elasticity etc. all

have a part to play in the ageing face.

There is no research to suggest that facial

exercises work and if you think about it logicallythe reason why botulinum toxin (botox) erases

wrinkles is because it reduces muscle movement

so by increasing muscle/facial movement with facial

exercises you are likely to increase wrinkling. Look

in the mirror and notice that the parts of your face

which are the most wrinkled its the areas of your

face you stretch and crinkle the most!

By all means tone your body muscles to improve

your gure. This month the new Tarporley Business

121 training are offering our clients a free tnessassessment when you book any Body Treatment

    with us in January.

WHEN IS A SALE NOT A SALE?MOST OF THE TIME IN THE CARPET TRADE!!

Beware of shops offering unbelievable deals with

large discounts off recommended retail prices.

    There is no RRP.

As a retailer we decide what price to sell a product for.

If a shop can offer you massive discounts then they have

probably just put a massive mark up on the item to start with.

Remember, nothing in life is free!!

Shops offering free tting or free underlay probably

have it worked into the cost of the carpet.

We have never known any tters who work for free and have

never been given underlay free, so if shops can offer these

things for free then they are either making a loss or have

added it into the price of the carpet!!

Our family business has grown from strength to strength

    due to your recommendations!

We strongly believe in genuine competitive prices and

Excellent service whether you are spending 100 or 10,000.

We have 5 teams of dedicated experienced tters!!

    TARPORLEY HIGH SCHOOL

    & SIxTH FORM COLLEGE

    Students on an Arican

mission to save the rhinoTHIS summer, a small group

    of students from Tarporley

    High School & Sixth Form

College will embark on a tripof a lifetime to Eastern Africa.

    Four students from year 11

and 13, will form part of a

    composite crew, consisting

    of students from various

    different schools across the

UK. They will travel to Uganda

to participate in a four week

    expedition organised by

Camps International.During the visit they will

    undertake two vital projects.

For the rst part of the trip,

they will be based at the Ziwa

    Rhino Sanctuary which is

home to one of the Worlds

    most endangered species, the

    White Rhino. The students will

help the rangers in the day to

day care and management ofthe 12 rhinos currently based

    at the sanctuary. They will

    also work within the local

    community to educate and

support local people in thecareful management of their

    livestock and the importance

    of local wildlife within their

    community.

    From Ziwa, the students

    will travel east to Budadiri,

a small village based at the

    foot of Mount Elgon. During

their stay there, they will work

collaboratively with localresidents to re-build a school

for local children. As a country

    which forms part of Eastern

    Africa, Uganda is renowned for

    its excellent education system.

    Sadly however, the facilities

in most schools do not always

reect this. The group will work

against the clock to build a

clean, safe and well equippedschool suitable for the local

    population and not only will

they build the school, they willalso teach in it too!

    The students have already

    begun their fundraising

    campaign and they will

    continue to undertake

    fundraising activities both

within the school and as part

    of the local community. Their

    most recent fundraising idea is

    staff recipe book. Fine Dining,

    is a collection of favourite

    Rosanne, who grew up in

TARPORLEY Vics First and Reserve teams have both played to their full potential in the past

months football matches and the results have all been positive.

The First Team has played on two occasions and has won both games. The rst match

against Daten FC was a good away performance against the

Leagues bottom side, and it is always pleasing to

win comfortably away from The Flacca. The

remaining match was a Crewe & District FA

Cup quarter nal tie against WinningtonAvenue FC. The Vics controlled the

match and convincingly won 5-1. They

have now progressed to the semi

nals which will be played in the

New Year, with the opponents yet

    to be drawn.

    Reserves

    The Reserves stretched their

winning run to four games with

    Sandbach United 3rds, Crewe FC

    Reserves and Duddon United all

defeated in the period since the last

were against Crewe FC & Duddon

    United FC, who were despatched
