Automated Corrosion Mapping is an ultrasonictechnique utilized to scan one hundred percentof a steel surface to locate, size and documentdamage associated with the equipment beinginspected. Applications include in-servicescanning of vessels, tank walls, frac towers,drums, steel plate, in-line inspection validationsand numerous other applications.
The AUT system consists of a multi-channel
digital meter, robotic scanning system, manualscanner, multiple transducers and laptop withacquisition software.
The technology uses single pulse echotransducers and/or multiple angle pulse echotransducer configurations to locate and identifynearly any type of damage mechanism such asbasic corrosion or erosion, hydrogen inducedcracking, stepwise cracking, stress corrosioncracking, laminations and much more.
It's primary application is to collect and imagedata in real-time and to store this data inelectronic format. Due to it's repeatabilitycontinued monitoring of critical flaw growth canbe performed. Finally the ability to document andvisually present the defect size and morphologyis extremely important when communicating withthe client and when supporting governmentreporting/compliance issues.
