SITE SELECTION

IMPORTANT: When full of water (depending on size) your tank & trough will weigh up to 26 tonnes. Therefore, it is very important to select a suitable site that is:

1. Stable ground not subject to erosion or landslides.2. Flat and level and free from rocks, stones and sharp objects.3. Preferably compacted 75mm (3”) deep pad of crusher dust.4. Not under overhanging branches or trees.

Allow a pad diameter of 3.1M for the 5000L Combo and 4.8M for the 25,000L Combo.

SITE SELECTION

Congratulations on purchasing a Rapid Plas tank & trough combo. These tanks are supplied assembled and ready to use with only minimal commissioning required by you. If this product is correctly installed and regularly maintained, it will give you trouble free service for years to come.

Water enters the tank via Brass Inlet concealed under the trough

Water flows up the internal pipework via the Poly Riser

Tank water level controlled via the High Pressure Float Valve in the tank

Trough water level controlled via the Low Pressure Float Valve

Level indicator rises as tank fills

UNLOADING/LOADING

Always load or unload on firm, level surfaces and ensure correct manual handling procedures are adhered to. The 5000L combo is small enough to be transported on a ute tray and can be dropped into place manually by 2 able bodied persons as shown in a video at www.rapidplas.com.au. The 25,000L combo is normally delivered directly by our trucks onto site.

Ensure the tanks and troughs are totally empty before moving them. Mechanical lifting equipment must be of sufficient size and weight capacity and operators need to be adequately trained in the dangers of lifting and moving large items, especially when moving the 25,000L combo. Bystanders need to keep a safe distance from any lifting operations. Beware of any overhead power lines or other dangers.

CHECK AND CONNECT

Whilst we use tried and tested thread sealants during manufacture, please inspect combo on delivery and check all the fittings are tight as these tanks and troughs endure quite a lot of vibration during transport. The tank filling inlet pressure is rated to 110 psi maximum.

5000L COMBO

This unit is supplied with all parts fully installed. The threaded fitting at the top of the tank is not an inlet. The water supply connection is via the 1 1/4” brass threaded fitting located underneath the sweep out ramp. Connect using a 300mm length of flexible hose or an articulated riser to absorb any shocks or movements. You are ready to turn on the water supply now!

Remove the float valve cover on the trough and adjust the water level to your desired height by adjusting the bolt and locking nut on the low pressure float valve located in the trough. Ensure the float ball is well tightened onto the float arm. Do not attempt to bend the arm of the float valve to adjust the water height.

Remove the tank lid and adjust the high pressure float valve shut off point to suit your requirements. This is done by loosening the bolt and raising or lowering the float arm. The full water level should be low enough to prevent the tank from overflowing.

The tank and trough can be drained by removing both the trough bung and the tank bung.

25,000L COMBO

This unit is supplied with some parts not installed to prevent damage during transport. Where applicable, the level indicator aluminum pole assembly is supplied separately to the tank. This is installed by opening the tank lid, unscrewing the high visibility top marker, and lowering the tube assembly into the tank through the lid. Feed it back up through the hole in the roof of the tank and through the black level indicator holder and then screw the top marker back on again. It is not necessary to climb inside the tank to do this.

The threaded fitting at the top of the tank is not an inlet. The water supply connection is via the 2” brass threaded fitting located underneath the sweep out ramp on the same side as the manhole. Connect using a 500mm length of flexible hose or an articulated riser to absorb any shocks or movements. The 2” brass threaded fitting on the opposite side of the tank is capped off and can be used as a tank drain or an outlet to additional troughs.

Remove the float valve cover on the trough and fit the supplied low pressure float valve to the poly ball valve with thread tape. You are now ready to switch on your water supply to the combo. Ensure the float ball is well tightened onto the float arm and the float locking nut is tightened. Adjust the trough water level to your desired height by adjusting the bolt and locking nut on the low pressure float valve located in the trough. Do not attempt to bend the arm of the float valve.

Open the tank lid and adjust the high pressure float valve shut off point to suit your requirements. This is done by loosening the bolt and raising or lowering the float arm. The full water level should be low enough to prevent the tank from overflowing.

The trough can be drained by switching off the ball valve tap and removing the trough bung.

If you have received the optional additional trough float valve kit, it is important to set the correct levels for both trough float valves separately. Switch off both taps before filling the tank and adjust the first trough float valve so that the water level is about 30mm lower than “normal”. Make sure that the float valve is completely closed off and the water level has stabilised before adjusting the second float valve to raise the water level to normal. This ensures that enough water is available when there are a large number of animals drinking.

OPTIONAL ALTERNATIVE FLOAT VALVES AND ACCESSORIES

Rapid Plas can supply a variety of alternative float valves including:• Low pressure float valves fitted in the top of the tanks for very low water supply

pressures• Dual acting float valves fitted in the top of the tanks to suit pumped applications• Diaphragm type float valves fitted in the tanks (stringed floats or directly connected

styles)

Custom sweep out brooms (PTSWB2) are available through your distributor. These work on both the large and small combos.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE OF YOUR COMBO

1. Regularly inspect the tank and trough to ensure that it is still sitting level on the ground and that no leaks are present.

2. Remove trough float cover to inspect proper functioning of the float valve and adjust as required. Regular on/off actions to the ball valve (25,000L model) help to prevent a build-up of calcium. Clear any debris or obstructions from the float valves. Frogs have been found to make their homes on top of the floats!

3. Check that the tank float valve is operating smoothly and shutting off at the correct level. Occasionally the O-ring in the tank float valve could require lubrication with light silicone grease. Remove the float valve from the tank to enable this to be done by removing the split pin, brass arm, bottom cap and gasket, and the white piston. Reassemble and check smooth operation again. Ensure blue cap & gasket are tightened firmly.

4. A tank is a confined space – you should not need to enter a tank. Follow the below safety requirements should you choose to enter the tank.

SAFETY INFORMATION

WARNING: If it is necessary to enter the tank, enter only in accordance with your State statutory Workplace Health & Safety Act & Regulations and the relevant Codes of Practice. You must complete a Risk Assessment before entering the tank to identify, assess and control the hazards. This is a confined space – only persons trained in AS 2865-1995 “Safe Working in a Confined Space” may enter. Ladders are to be firmly positioned inside and outside and an emergency response plan must be in place. DO NOT enter tank when the temperature is over 40˚C. ALWAYS have an assistant present.
